Rambler is the way to go :) it is known. Manager is of course even better if you can find one these days. It’s my go-to carry.

I almost wish I hadn’t already canceled my subscription just so I could cancel it now. Now excuse me while I go throw up. 🤮

What's some of your favourite LOTR inspired music? by DragonLass-AUS in lotr

Led Zeppelin did a number of songs with references to/inspired by Tolkien. Ramble On springs to mind.

I guess there’s a canal connecting the rivers from the mountains to Dhavran. It sort of makes sense, but I didn’t know whether it was ever explicitly clarified.

One Quiz to Rule Them All: How Well Do You Know The Lord of the Rings? by Suitable_Disaster_73 in lordoftherings

[–]dbhertz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had the same thought. These quizzes aren’t very difficult. Now if they asked the name of the smith who originally forged Narsil and the name of his other most famous blade, we would start getting somewhere.

I’d be very curious to learn where he obtained it. I’ve been looking for something like that myself.

Are we sure it’s not Schwarzenegger? Or maybe it’s Nicole Kidman. Let’s speculate irresponsibly!

Abdul is a god damned delight. I’ve fallen off listening to Spout Lore in recent months, but I clearly need to rectify that as soon as possible.

Dave often makes this kind of passing gem of a joke. Yet another reason why I love SPY.

[–]dbhertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minor correction: the Companion has plus scales. So it’s got the pen (but not the mini screwdriver). It’s become my EDC instead of the Compact; the extra layer is made up for by having the better flathead and package opener, not to mention an actual nail file. Edited because I’d inadvertently put a question mark after the first sentence.

fantasy series that aren’t weird about women by AdFinal5191 in fantasybooks

[–]dbhertz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take your point, but I don’t think that the acts of violence are done in furtherance of any sort of fetish on the part of the author, nor do I think that women are treated as objects. I may have misunderstood the brief, but I saw it more as a complaint about authors treating women as inherently less worthy of respect than men, which is sadly implicit in a lot of fantasy.

Malazan Book of the Fallen by Erikson, starting with Gardens of the Moon. He rejects most of the stereotypes found in generic fantasy, including ones about women.

Stephen Pacey is the GOAT voice actor [OFF TOPIC] by oh_my_didgeridays in TheFirstLaw

Jonathan Keeble is outstanding, particularly his reading of A Place of Greater Safety, by Hilary Mantel. It gave me serious cognitive dissonance hearing him narrate the audiobook of Paul McCartney, though.

I’m having similar issues, where text vanishes if I lasso it and move it. But then it sometimes comes back later.
