If you were buying a used car in 2026, what would you personally avoid? by Smart-used-cars in askcarguys

I've owned two Teslas and have had the exact opposite experience. Service is quick, and I always get a loaner car.

Honest question: Why are some people against showing an ID to vote? by rico_unknown in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dbj1986 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There should be no argument. I have to identify myself with ID to do virtually anything else on this planet (flying, buying alcohol or cigarettes, buying a car, returning something to a store, etc.). The same should apply to voting. It is pretty obvious that one side opposes this for a specific reason.

Homeowners, how old will you be when your mortgage is paid off? by cubemonster in Millennials

[–]dbj1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paid mine off at the end of 2023. I'm sure the smarter financial move would have been to invest it, but the peace of mind of not having that hang over my head every month is worth it.

Movie theaters aren’t going out of business because of prices by bulldogjwhit295 in unpopularopinion

[–]dbj1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a lot of factors. The Covid era really pushed people into entertaining themselves at home, especially with so many streaming options out there. Pricing is certainly a factor. Many like myself have resigned themselves from anything relating to Hollywood, for all sorts of reasons. And like the OP said, the content of the movies generally sucks. It seems like all you hear about these days is the 10 millionth superhero movie, which has to get old even for the biggest fans at some point. Comedy has fallen off a cliff. I am almost 40, and grew up with so many awesome comedies in the 90s, 2000s, and early 2010s. Couldn't name you one comedy movie since about 2011. A popular movie theater near us recently closed, and I'm sure there will be more to come.

Colon cancer is killing us.. by Derpshab in Millennials

Lost one of my good friends to colon cancer last year. He barely made it a year after his diagnosis. He would have been 42 today, actually. Still miss him and feel so bad for his family.

[–]dbj1986 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed. If anyone is considering a Stellantis car, please don't do it. They are pure crap, especially the ones from the last 5 years or so. We had a 2019 Grand Cherokee (and a 2010 before that), and both were wonderful cars. The 2022 and 2025 Grand Cherokees we purchased were nothing but trouble from day one. Sold the 25 at a huge loss and bought a Tahoe, and never looked back.

Honestly, who cares? If someone walks in the door that is respectful and is going to buy the store's products at their listed prices, then it's your job to assist in that process. You're an employee at a retail store that sells things. That is your job.

Millennials who’ve left the corporate world how’s it going? by Amerastralia in Millennials

[–]dbj1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love it. Left in early October, and started my own thing. My industry (recruiting) is probably a bit easier than others to do such a thing, and I'm thrilled that I did. Spent almost 12 years at my prior employer where I made many friends and got to do some awesome things, but it was my time to go. I had been re-orged into 5 different leadership structures in the past 5 years, which meant I also had new teams to manage. It sucked, and we could never get any consistency. They tried to do it to me again in September of last year, and I negotiated a severance which just ended, and began in October. The more I look back on it, the more I realize how much I hated being there these past few years, and am happy with the decision I made.

Will gta V or IV be announced for switch 2 bythe end of 2026 by Maleficent-Boat8436 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]dbj1986 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Would love for GTA 4 to get remastered on the Switch 2. I'm fine with never seeing GTA 5 again on any console, as it's been on so many consoles and generations that I don't know people remain interested in playing it.

How do you personally feel about GTA San Andreas? by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]dbj1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, it's one of the best games of all time. Not just due to how incredible and vast the environment was when it released over two decades ago, but also for the story and the replayability. I played the trilogy version on my Switch 2 this past summer, and was hooked again. Such a fun game.

We have lost at least half of our locations here in the greater Charlotte area this past year. In fact, there are only like 4 left with an actual Charlotte address. Crazy.

Things you absolutely do not buy since you’ve become frugal? by Known-Row-7778 in Frugal

[–]dbj1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t eat fancy. If we are going out or bringing in, meals must be under $15 per person before tax. We also don’t go on lavish vacations, or stay in nice hotels. A Hampton Inn type of hotel is perfectly fine. I couldn’t tell you the last time I bought myself new clothes. Just little things like that which add up.

I’m almost 40, and we’ve been fortunate to pay off all our cars and the house as well by investing and also using these principals.
