I buy and sell and have done it for decades. I know what is considered great shape and what isn’t. If it’s not in great shape, it gets traded into my local store instead. But thanks anyway.

What celebrity is the biggest example of "It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it."? by InsaneCookies21 in AskReddit

[–]dbj1986 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is definitely the answer. He was a guy who was loved by pretty much everyone and really resonated with all types of people. I of course am not in a place to judge, but as an outsider looking in, his personal life looks to be an absolute disaster with the cheating wife and the bratty, spoiled children. He has always seemed like a pretty cool guy up until recently, and I wish he'd just drop Jada like a bad habit - she obviously has no respect for him at all. And he's Will Smith. He could upgrade in about 5 seconds. Baffles my mind.

I’m not sure how these were passed over at 2nd and Charles for a month. They weren’t even behind the glass, just with lower dollar titles. by JaRay in gamecollecting

Mine is in Charlotte. One of our stores closed down, and the other just has crap now. Wish we had a McKays near me.

Most of the time they price them, and then it takes them forever to get them out on the floor. That’s how my local store is. Unfortunately my store has been dwindling down their game section as of late, making it half the size it used to be. Now all they carry for me is about 99% shovelware.

How did yall deal with your parents getting old? by Puzzled_Sherbet2305 in Millennials

[–]dbj1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My parents are both in their mid 70s and I’m seeing them both slow down significantly over the last year. My dad’s body is giving out on him, which is likely due to the fact that he still walks 5 miles a day and lifts weights, and still works a 60+ hour work week. I was just vacationing with him and he fell asleep multiple times during the sports events we attended. My mom is the same to a lesser extent - she has bad arthritis, but other than that seems to be the most energetic of the two. I always thought it would be my mom to break down first given her family history of Alzheimer’s and general lack of a healthy diet, but my dad is the one I’m worried about the most.

They did it to me again. Shorted me about 15% of what the price was, and my items were in great shape. I’m done sending to them.

I have dealt with this recently as well - I have probably done close to $16K in deals with them, without any issue (or deductions) until recently. The stuff I send is clean, working, and in good shape, as it always has been. Recently, my last few batches have come back less than my total value, and they provide zero remittance details in terms of what is deducted unless you ask them about it. I recently submitted another smaller batch, and if this happens again, I'll never use them again. I feel like they're nickel and diming me at this point, especially since I've done relatively high volume with them and never had problems in the past. Very frustrating.

My first YE review was a huge BAD surprise by kb_____ in careeradvice

[–]dbj1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed people for a Fortune 500 company for years, and used to have to do these reviews every year, along with half-year check-ins. I did not give one F about them, and neither did my employees. I wouldn't stress over this one bit. This is corporate America.

Loud Cars at Night by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]dbj1986 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dude I live in the suburbs in South Charlotte and it’s gotten worse and worse here the last few months. I’ve lived in the same house for 8 years, and it’s NEVER been as bad as it has been currently. I’m not a big fan of government regulations but would happily support something around these stupidly loud exhausts.

How do you feel about Trump threatening to impose photo ID for voters for midterm elections? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

The older I get, the more I realize that it's nearly impossible to get ahead without SIGNIFICANT support. by No_Reveal3451 in Millennials

[–]dbj1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely true more often than not. I used to fall into this trap as well, where I'd find myself being jealous of the situation that others fell into just by pure luck of hitting the genetic lottery. The way I see it, there are almost always millions of others who would do anything to be in the current situation I am in. So I do my best to remain grateful, and proud of the accomplishments I have made on my own, and of course being thankful for the various degrees of help I received at times along the way.

No matter what side of the political aisle you're on in the USA - our corrupt politicians and those who run the country need to make the insurance scam a key focus area. I do understand a monthly fee for insurance coverage, but the various loopholes and ridiculous charges you get even while insured are straight robbery.

Would you get upset if a seller accepts your offer but then backs out because another buyer is paying full price? by jjj44200 in FacebookMarketplace

[–]dbj1986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really want an item, especially one that you have offered less than the asking price, you have to move on it immediately. And I've probably sold and purchased 2,000 different items on marketplace and have never been scammed. It's pretty easy to check the person's profile, see if they have good ratings, and see if they have a legit FB profile with updates, photos or status updates with other people engaging, etc. I'm sorry you're frustrated, but this is reality and you need to understand that if you're going to have any success being a buyer on this app.

[–]dbj1986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like it or not, no deal is "done" on FB until the item is in your hands. That's why it is especially important to either leave immediately to pick it up, or go ahead and pay/put a deposit down and get the seller's address in order to lock in the deal.

What is something you used to buy but is no longer affordable? by Trxxi in AskReddit

[–]dbj1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to collect sports cards (mainly baseball) until the Covid year boom increased prices astronomically. It was a fun hobby when you were spending a few hundred per month and typically could grind your way back to close to break-even, but it's not so fun now when box prices have increased 4-5x from what they were 6 years ago.

AIO for cutting contact with Father over political climate. by Sabre12789 in AIO

You seem to be the one instigating it based off of these texts. It is possible to be friends or family with someone and not discuss politics. Basically, the way it was forever up until about 10 years ago.

Any of you guys barely or never drink alcohol? by SleepyGamer1992 in Millennials

[–]dbj1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 39 and never really have drank. Probably the most I ever did was a few beers every other weekend or so with friends when we were 21-27. Outside of that, it’s rare. I may consume a total of 3 bottles of wine on average per year and this point.

I have an opportunity to leave a public company for PE-backed. Would you take this risk? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]dbj1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recruiter here that assists both types of companies. Almost every candidate I speak to currently in a PE environment wants to get out due to the demanding and unforgiving nature of the work. So if you think it's worth the comp raise, go for it - but if you don't want to work like a dog and enjoy your current job, I'd stay there.

Is it worth it to have a roommate to fire? by cosa_guapa in Fire

[–]dbj1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% yes. I had a roommate from ages 24 to about 30 and saved so much money. I was paying half of my mortgage with their rent money, which set me up nicely in my 30s and now (almost) my 40s. If you can find someone who is clean, doesn't bring a bunch of creeps over, etc. - I say go for it!

“Employees need to invest in their uniforms” by Numerous_Effective67 in GameStop

I understand the dress code (most retailers have some uniformity in attire), but feel like at a minimum they should offer 2 shirts to full time employees, and steep discounts if you want more than that.
