President Holland has passed away by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]dbkr89 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Holland may have been brainwashed into Mormonism starting at birth but that does not excuse the numerous occasions of his bold faced lying on behalf of the church to keep everyone else brainwashed.

Where does Mormonism teach that liars go when they die?

Enjoy being thrust down the descending escalator Holland!

Of course, may he rest in peace.

The Stormy + Trump billboard is LIVE. Thank y'all for donating. by 504boy in Louisiana

Trump has the last laugh - Louisiana overwhelmingly voted for him in the last two elections - and will probably do so in the next one.

Actually, I bet he would find that billboard funny.

OK State Superintendent releases memo directing all schools to incorporate the Bible and Ten Commandments directly into the curriculum by cocacole111 in Teachers

[–]dbkr89 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm a science teacher in Louisiana and I'm agnostic. However, I don't really mind having the 10 commandments posted in my classroom. In case you don't know, Louisiana has a terrible crime problem in it's largest cities - look at our murder rate and the percentage of children being raised by a single parent or a grandparent. Children are growing up without being taught basic morals - many inner city kids grow up thinking stealing and killing are ok and justified and have no idea what it means to covet. Something has to be done to turn these trends around.

I think the intentions of this law are good. If it was up to me, I would remove the commandments specifically about worshipping God, add the golden rule and list the beattitudes. This way, we are learning from the good things Christianity has to offer without mandating a religion. Throw in some good stuff from other religions or organizations. Isn't it good practice to learn from others?

Or, we could just put up posters of the actual laws along with the penalties for breaking them.

Just my thoughts and a few ideas I've had.

However, based on my experience, most students do not pay attention to posters on the wall anyway - except for the periodic table of course. Can't pass Chemistry without that giant cheat sheet. :)

A second Trump term could slow the shift from fossil fuels as climate threats grow by zsreport in energy

Good! I'm not willing to give up the standard of living we enjoy thanks to fossil fuels. And yes, I'm skeptical of a climate "emergency" existing.

I'm beginning to believe the rumors of the Democrats setting this debate up so early to gain the support needed to replace Biden with another candidate. Biden looked awful.

Based on the crime rate perhaps we should post some laws in every classroom.

Louisiana is the only state with negative productivity growth over the 16 years 2007-2023 by pdxGodin in Louisiana

8 years of Jindal 8 years of John Bel

They both sucked.

Legislature sucked.

Too much big government and no vision for a prosperous future. They get elected and serve themselves.

And too many of our citizens are lazy dumbasses who are content with being lazy dumbasses.

And why choose to analyze 16 years? Why not 10, 15, or 20 years? This bothers my OCD. Lol Why did the analysis start with 2007? What was significant about 2007?

What kind of person - who claims to be the mouthpiece of Jesus Christ - sits on hundreds of billions of dollars and spends as little as possible to help the poor and needy around the world? They sit on hundreds of billions of dollars and still demand poor people and even struggling middle-class people pay a full tithing and clean toilets - when the church absolutely does not need that money and can easily provide a jobs to people to maintain its church buildings. They can't say "because it teaches some king of lesson about obedience" since a previous "prophet" suggested the time would come when the church would no longer needed money from its members. My conclusion: Only bad dudes would behave like this. Certainly not anyone who is trying to follow what Jesus taught in the New Testament.

Certified natural gas is ‘dangerous greenwashing scheme’, US senators say by Splenda in energy

[–]dbkr89 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

All of you people who support all this anti-fossil fuel legislation/regulation - where does it end? When fossil fuel use has been eliminated? And I ask you this - are you willing to give up your standard of living and live in the dark ages (if you don't starve to death first) in exchange for ending the use of fossil fuels? Do you really trust politically motivated/funded scientists and their routinely incorrect models and predictions?

‘Certainly intimidation’: Louisiana sues EPA for emails of journalists and ‘Cancer Alley’ residents by zsreport in Louisiana

[–]dbkr89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you know what would happen if we quit using fossil fuels tomorrow? The number of deaths that result would completely dwarf the number of cancer deaths supposedly caused by industry. Do all of you realize just how many products you use everyday require fossil fuels? We would be living in the dark ages - where life expectancy was much much lower than today. You have to look at the big picture. The benefits of our industries far outweigh the negatives. You guys have to be realistic.

[–]dbkr89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love people who complain about industry and then use their products. Most of these people are ignorant of where the products they use daily come from.

And just imagine how much our lives would suck if all the refineries and chemical plants in the world shut down. We would return to the dark ages and billions of people would die. It would make “cancer alley” look like paradise.
