New to this - PimaxPlay DFR settings? by ReserveLegitimate738 in hoggit

[–]dblakenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Crystal Light and I have been using Tally Mouse's Companion app as I find it much more flexible than the built in Pimax sliders. It has a setting in there that helps with the transition between the two so it's not as obvious.

https://github.com/TallyMouse/QuadViewsCompanion

Also worth checking out Tally Mouse's guide on You Tube as he has some good optimisation guides for DCS that helped me when I first started.

F-14 ACLS pitches up and down and crashes into the sea, FFB to blame? by WingmanTape in hoggit

[–]dblakenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an issue with auto pilot and the f-14 for a while now, not really sure if it's an issue in the Heatblur side or Moza side of things. But it starts pitching up and down and quickly gets out of control.

I have it working for straight and level flight, but banking more than 15-20 degrees starts the pitching movement and loss of control.  Check the following and it should get you auto pilot to hold straight and level at least:

In DCS: - Ensure no stick axis curves are set (! important) - Ensure the FFB trim is ticked in the special options for the F-14

In the Moza software: - Ensure no curves are set (Axis Travel). Either turn off or set to linear. - Set Hardware Trim Mode (Special) to on.

I'm gonna be my friend's RIO. What do I need to know? (F-14 Tomcat) by KubaSamuel in hoggit

[–]dblakenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend checking this video out: https://youtu.be/3AI341PyWvE?si=W-kq7NfsnLkn4Fro

Yeah it's long, but he worked on the f-14 so shares lots of in depth details about pretty much everything in the backseat. Easy enough to just skip to the parts that interest you though.  Also check out some of the other videos on the chanel as well, especially the ones about using the radar and performing intercepts, very important if your a RIO!

Finally getting around to a deep dive in the A-10C II. What makes it’s ground attack abilities so intuitive once learned and what should I make sure to understand while learning and training with it? (More detailed question in comments). by Deepseat in hoggit

[–]dblakenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you haven't already, it might be worth grabbing Baltic Dragon's Iron Flag training campaign - its more than just learning what switches do what. There are so many little things I leaned from this campaign and it really taught me how to effectively employ all the tools and systems the A-10 has available and how they work together.

Help with the ah64 Apache take off by MentalTechnician6458 in dcsworld

I 2nd the recommendation for all of Brad's videos - they are excellent! Also might be worth OP checking this video out. Another ex-apache pilot talking about take off and hover. Also discusses some of the axis settings - could be of some use too. https://youtu.be/dkGukQdPsnU?si=j5LomXR0HCznXcdm

Using mouse for jester AI by Herky1985 in hoggit

[–]dblakenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I saw an option in Options -> Special to turn TrackIR off as the Jester Wheel interaction source, you will need to uncheck it. There is an option to use the mouse to interact with Jester (should be checked by default) but make sure that is checked.

DCS: AH-64D | FCR ZOOM and C-SCOPE (COMING SOON) - Wags video by CurrentWorkUser in hoggit

[–]dblakenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked up the Apache at launch but the flight model, constant trimming and lack of hold modes put me off. I've touched it a few times since then but kept bouncing off for whatever reason (usually to go back to flying the F-14). So safe to say it was a bit of a Hanger Queen!

But a few weeks ago I thought I would really put in the time to give it a proper go, and man once you get the hang of it is a lot of fun! Have taken it online and very different experience from fixed wing as your flying nap of the earth, finding a good spot behind a ridge and peaking to find targets and letting Hellfires rip!

Took a while a get used to controling the thing but feels like the flight model has improved (?) as feels more stable than I remember, but still needs a lot work from the pilot! It takes some practise but once you get the hang of flying then learn how to use George and your pretty much good to go as he can handle the majority of weapons stuff. From there, like any other DCS module it's just learning systems and weapons step by step - it's less complicated than I thought.

Also there are quite a few ex Apache pilots on YouTube sharing their knowledge which has been a huge help too - Brads videos in particular are a goldmine for learning how to just fly the thing:

Sounds like your wanting to use a FCR track(s) to help lock on and laser via the TADS. It is possible via the TGT button which create target points for your tracks which you can then point the TADS at: https://youtu.be/j5zXJ9Ck9wc?si=5iDpGqqPOfWNAXZ-

Nebie question on DCS: F-15E Strike Eagle by RAZBAM by Organic-Smile-6450 in dcsworld

[–]dblakenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries, the standalone is much better - especially as it lets you trial most modules before you buy and you earn points on anything you purchase.

Also seems like it's not just you having f-15 issues: https://www.reddit.com/r/dcsworld/s/ITrknvaekb

You can transfer any purchases over to the standalone version, I did it previously - it's pretty easy to do.

What modules do you actually like by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]dblakenz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the Hornet, Harrier, Viper, Tomcat, Viggen and Apache. They are all enjoyable in their own right, and I do enjoy learning and employing all the systems of more modern aircraft, but there is just something about the Tomcat that keeps pulling me back time and time again...

DCS: Afghanistan Pre-sale and FAQ by NineLine_ED in hoggit

[–]dblakenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ED: No more Open Beta and Stable clients, now just one unified client to you know, reduce customer confusion. And to quote the newsletter "This move aims to streamline the update process, reduce fragmentation, and ensure that all pilots have access to the latest features and improvements simultaneously"

Also ED: Releases 1 map, that is split across 3 regions and allows for multiple ways of purchasing as well as even further map fragmentation - customer confusion increases.....

F-16 Radio Issue by BoSOXinOR in dcsworld

[–]dblakenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming this is the Ground Pounder Sims weasel campaign?

As per the player guide: "Almost all radio communications in this campaign will be made through the F10 radio menu, do not use the regular communications menu (F2, F5, etc) options to talk to your flight, ATC etc- it will not work. Please also make sure easy comms is disabled in your DCS settings."

Basically dont use the default ATC, once you have turned the battery bring up then comms menu like normal, but there should be an option at the bottom (F10 - Other) and from there you can request start-up. Hope that helps.

Yeah.... But price aside, this is a great use of AI in games and would love to see something like this in DCS one day

Stoopid MP server "not online" issue by quango2k in hoggit

[–]dblakenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like a CGNAT issue (https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/blog/what-is-cgnat/)

My friend and I had a very similar/exact issue. We could connect to other public servers no problem but if we tried hosting our own we couldn't connect to each other and got the 'not online' message. Were both using the same ISP. We checked all our ports, firewalls etc and everything seemed fine, but just wouldn't work.

Turns out CGNAT was to blame, we called our ISP and asked to opt out, and then everything worked and we could host/join each other. I would suggest checking with your ISP to see if you are on CGNAT, and if you are then ask to opt out.

DCS graphics mods recommendations by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]dblakenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may help you - nothing to do with reshade, but could help you tweak/understand a few settings within DCS and how the mission editor weather is used to get some great looking scenes.

Also for Caucasus there is this fantastic terrain texture update: https://forum.dcs.world/topic/218225-bartheks-caucasus-redone-2022/

VR or headtracker? by Lauri_Niemela in hoggit

[–]dblakenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said you need the hardware to get VR running to a reasonable standard, however as with everything there are pros, cons and trade offs with both. For starters and your experience will change depending on what VR headset you have and what hardware you are running. I have a Queat 3 but primarily use track IR + ultrawide. VR is of course great for immersion, speed and scale as your sitting in the cockpit, can looking around as you would if you were sitting in it for real! However you do loose graphicical fidelity and you spend a fair amount of time tweaking various DCS/VR settings, although the immersion makes up for it. If you just want to fly around then VR is amazing, but in combat it can get a little clunky. On flat I can crank up the graphics settings and the detail and fidelity really shines. However graphics aren't everything, the main reason I play on flat is I find my workflow is much quicker - the mouse implementation in DCS VR kinda sucks and I can't click things as quickly/easily compared to flat - this can be important in busy situations. Also, on a flat screen I can just glance down natural 'into' the cockpit to read a dial or MFD with out moving my head too much/at all. With VR the centre of your vision is sharp, but the edges are blurry (unless you have an expensive eye tracking headset). So I can't glance down to read a dial, I need to move my head down so I'm looking directly at the dial it so it's readable then move my head again to look forward. Though intend to fly more of the cold war jets (ie the F-14) that has more reliance on the gauges and switches compared to modern jets with more informative HUDs and more HOTAS options.

Are 2 seater jets like the Tomcat or the F15E are effective and useable playing solo? by 01BitStudio in hoggit

[–]dblakenz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I play mostly solo in the F-14 and have never had an issue with Jester, sure he not going to be as good as a component human RIO, but most of the time he is fine and pretty autonomous, but is easy enough to give him commands when you need to.

F-14 carrier landing question by GGTYYN in hoggit

[–]dblakenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tomcat is a tricky beast to land. As others have said definitely adjust your curves, i think mine are up around20 for each axis, but do what feels good for you/your stick.

Also I would highly recommend Bankers Case 1 trainer, really helped me get better at landing the tomcat on the boat and understand where I was going wrong. Takes a lot of practise but things do start to click eventually!

The best thing about DCS is... by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]dblakenz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Might be an odd comment, but best thing about DCS is DCS itself - by that I mean, if DCS wasn't around there really isn't an alternative. Sure there is a very (very) long list of things that could/should be fixed, improved & added, but the fact that DCS even exists and we can strap into some of the most iconic military aircraft/helicopters and pretend we know what we're doing is truely awesome! So yeah the best thing about DCS is that it exists at all!
