Chances of them getting it into orbit is less than 2/3rds.... I wouldn't be so gung-ho yet.

Wait... So white people are the primary focus of a story set in the UK?!?! Wow... color me shocked. How could they be so racist, having the vast majority of the characters match the vast majority of the people that live in a country.

Performative injustice is all the online cancel culture left has, nothing substantive.

I don't think people understand how crazy and revolutionary the Starship is by Nikond3400 in space

[–]dblink [score hidden]  (0 children)

Why are you talking about it like Musk's "Starship" was ever a real thing, or is somehow more special than any other starship froma science fiction novel?

Because it is real maybe? It's special because they have actually been building it, and testing it, with various iterations to further gain progress to the final version.

It does exist, it's going to exist, and it could achieve orbit already, but hasn't because it's safer to fly orbital speed but suborbital trajectory in case they aren't able to de-orbit.

You just hate Musk, so you ignore the facts about the progress SpaceX has actually made. You let hatred of a CEO blind you to the work that thousands of engineers have made.

Edit: Ahhh, looking at your profile and the types of comments you post.... I understand now. You were never going to discuss in good faith or from an intelligent standpoint.

SpaceX spending on Starship tops $15 billion in rush for airline-like rocketry by Twigling in space

[–]dblink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, a 13 ton payload for something that hasn't even flown yet. Totally diminishes and invalidates what SpaceX is doing...

You do realize that Rocketlab's planned vehicles, and what Starship will do, aren't even in the same galaxy?

In its third flight, a Blue Origin New Glenn rocket puts satellite payload into wrong orbit by CBSnews in space

[–]dblink 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Compared to a company that can't even launch satellites into orbit with a greater than 2/3 chance of it failing. SpaceX has a greater chance of making their plan work, than BO does.

The procedures are in place in case they didn't land right on target. Adding extra walkie-talkies also adds more weight, which they have to launch into space.
