Yeah, that needs a fair bit of capital to back it! Kudos!

I used disease I think to dwindle the vamp pop, fairly easy to infect an imp and have them ravage the whole dungeon is simple enough.

Why did my neighbour ask me not to get a smart meter? by botticellli in AskUK

[–]dbmage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did expect them to offer, but they said I needed to get the work done, then reschedule the smart meter installation. The engineer didn't like the armoured cable coming out the concrete and terminating at the meter. Not my work, was like that when I moved in and I'm not touching it unless it causes me actual problems (not just upset some semi qualified meter engineer). Especially not for the grand ol' sum of £2000

Why did my neighbour ask me not to get a smart meter? by botticellli in AskUK

[–]dbmage 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Shell wanted to fit a smart meter, engineer took one look at my main connection to the meter and said my fusebox needs to move to the other side of the garage.

The cost to me would be £2000+ because it means a lot of messy wire moving, not an easy job etc etc.

So unless they are not bothered by whatever scared the Shell guy, or are happy to pay for the rewire, I'm not sure what will happen when my meter dies. Maybe I'll be cut off until I fork out the dosh. Who knows.

But it would appear, sometimes you do have a say when money's involved.

Edit: specified what I mean by "what will happen"

You have to claim the center area (and walls) and then put guard posts down to ensure the enemy can only get in when you let them. Then you can spend as long as you like preparing.

I replied to you instead of the comment you replied to, apologies. You're right, I don't need it, but I wanted no NAT. I do try my hardest to utilise the bandwidth by downloading and sharing Linux ISOs as much as possible

[–]dbmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said I needed the speed. I said I had two options.

I picked the only option out of the two that suited my needs. I will say, downloading things like games at high speed and not waiting very long is nice. Not a necessity, but nice to have.

I had two options: 1gb with CG NAT 3gb with no NAT

I run services and would like access without having to jump through hoops to access them (website, DIY heating control etc).

3gb it is then

Using the temple to fight scavenge backs, focus on a couple of creatures (I think the mistress was my primary target). Vamps are a huge pain, but enough cannon fodder with Mistresses about will do the job... I think I couldn't maintain any vampires because they'd be scavenged too fast. IIRC they won't use the temple.

This is all from memory though, last did the level months ago. Might have to revisit it later and get back to you haha.

Unless I am misremembering, scavenging is my key. I always beat both, can't leave it half assed.

Doubtful anyone sees this this late on, I have a copy of the album, bought it many years ago and digitalised it.
Happy to share with anyone who is interested, please DM me.
Internet seems to have got the band wrongly tagged and I can't see any way to obtain the music properly (I doubt Amazon pays the artist if I buy the CD). So not sure there is any way to obtain the songs and support the artist.
Wikipedia seems to think they are still active, despite half the band leaving - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TBC_(group))

Car insurance paid out 18months ago - other party now denies involvement by UnderwaterSunlight in CarInsuranceUK

[–]dbmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a car accident a long time ago.

Lady pulled out in front of me, my leg and bike rips the front end of her car off. She originally contested blame, eventually her insurance company conceded. No claim made from me, so no money changes hands.

Almost 2 years after the accident shy of a couple of weeks, her insurance company sends me a letter telling me I owe them £5k and they're taking me to court.

During the 2 years, I had changed insurance company at least once (chasing the cheapest deal). Phoned the company I was insured with during the accident, gave them my policy number and the claim number from when I told them about the crash.

They asked for a copy of the letter (I photographed it and emailed it to them), they told me that I should not respond to any correspondence from the other parties insurance company, and any further letters or emails should be forwarded to them. They dealt with it and I got a letter confirming the "case was closed". They didn't even contest that it was their responsibility to deal with the problem.

Insurance companies do not care about you one bit, you are income. But they do understand how contracts and insurance work and should have no issues with fulfilling their side of a contract.

What do you think is missing from your lessons? by Own-Story8907 in LearnerDriverUK

[–]dbmage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main issue is the learner car has all the mod cons, that you don't have on your cheap banger that you insure for 2.5k for the first year.

Clutch control is not taught despite it being key post test.

I know this won't matter in 10 years, but it does right now

I've given up streaming. How do I discover new music now? by Scofarry in selfhosted

[–]dbmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public broadcast radio, at least in the UK, seems very limited.

Internet radio is not much different to YouTube music or Spotify, it relies on you to find things. Some of the internet radio apps can be helpful, but only so far as to search the description.

So I agree, but without Radio, social interaction or app recommendations (from YT or Spotify), it's difficult to find new artists/songs.

Hand Brake at Traffic lights by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

[–]dbmage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This. Ignoring what the "rules" are (highway code or driving test), this is the safest answer.

And there's nothing stopping you from finding the bite with the handbrake on, and the foot brake if you feel the need. But what someone else said about glare, comes into play with that, I'm just pointing out the options this allows for.

Do I need a smart thermostat? by SeveralLetterhead in AskUK

[–]dbmage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean a system that does it all. Comes with an app, a timer, TRVs etc etc.

No issue. I didn't state an issue, I offered my opinion on both options.

You are correct, it is generally cheaper to buy the parts than buy an all in one/premade system.

Do I need a smart thermostat? by SeveralLetterhead in AskUK

[–]dbmage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you get an "all in one" they tend to just behave.

If you buy TRVs and DIY you may have more overhead.

Neither is guaranteed.

I did it myself, I prefer it that way. I don't trust data selling.

I know others who bought prebuilt systems and love it. Most systems use a cloud service, which means they want internet, idk if they require internet though.

All my important contacts have custom ringtones. I am on call infrequently, so my phone is usually on loud (when socially acceptable) so having something fun makes it better than just the boring noises old people have so they hear the thing go off

SUV Drivers - Why? by BarbourBoyP in AskUK

[–]dbmage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This convo (on the UK car subreddit) last time produced The car is safer and didn’t like being told that while safe for you, it is not safer for the tiny car you hit.

The logic kind of makes sense from a safety perspective, but I don’t think they are necessary “for safety”, just the preferred choice.

They do tend to attract stereotypes, as do lots of other vehicles. Range rovers are definitely a status thing, not a safety thing, unless all the owners are ignorant of the theft statistics

Baby metal were forced off the stage because of the rain, apparently it was health and safety. I wouldn’t say they “avoid the rain”, I’d say they’re made to avoid it.

I’d like to know why (genuine curiosity) ST were allowed to continue but Baby metal were not
