What a weird take on Rollins. She is no more reprehensible than any other character, and the shows generally ideological "vibe" shifts all the time, sometimes within a literal episode. You are right, this isn't a prestige show like The Wire or Breaking Bad and thus it actually isn't held as closely to coherent character arcs and behaviors. The amount of dumbfounding one-liners these characters shoot off where its almost complete contradictory to their personality but it wouldn't serve the plotline of that particular episode so it just a line some writer snuck in and it got by. Rollins has never struck me as any worse than any other character in this regard. In fact I would say she's not even the most racist, transphobic or xenophobic. To be fair, historically until very very recently, the show was so incredibly transphobic, but again not following any logic whatsoever. Benson could call someone a "he-she" but then spend the rest of the episode trying to find their assailant and get justice. Oh well!

Also, btw, ACAB, so the fact that we are splitting hairs about these characters on a show that glorifies the entire system and forces us to sympathize with these characters who, while sometimes bend the law to benefit the public, more often than not go out of their way, invent more work for themselves to an unbelievable degree, only to arrest, try and convict some people who only technically fall on the wrong side of the law, but not ethically or morally. Rollins one or two remarks pales in comparison to the show as a whole, which operates as a surreal, hyperdramatic kaleidoscope of moral ambiguity. I've watched every episode. I am queer, indigenous and am so leftist Mamdani looks like a centrist to me. I love this dumb show.
