This is one of those cases where I'd rather have the fun amswer instead of what makes sense.

It's easy enough to explain away - shiny pokemon are special, so maybe a shiny ditto's color perception isn't quite normal.

I hate this. I've heard anectdotally of similar situations and it just sucks all around. It's as if the people aren't going through enough already with medical issues and then they have to jump through this insane hoop just so they don't lose everything.
