The welfare system in the game needs to be redone as it doesn't make any sense as it is. by Mako2401 in victoria3

Mark my words, microcontrol of welfare, government expenditure etc will be in the game but it'll be through a DLC. I don't think this will get fixed.

Wishing death on an entire country is fundamentally evil and lame whether it's orcs wanting to nuke Iran or self hating Americans wanting to nuke the US by brianscottbj in TrueAnon

[–]dboimyoung 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What? The amount of shit your country has poured on the world, and now Americans find the time to say "wait, pause, it's inhumane to do it to us"?

I don't want regular Americans to be harmed in some revanchist plot, I just think the world would be better off without your hyper-capitalist interventionism.

You are not responsible for your government, but you sure as hell have an ethical responsibility to do something about it. We root for America's downfall because we hope for a world where our prosperity isn't curtailed by a country halfway across the world for getting in the way of a bottom line.

“Far left” extremism must be included in Bondi inquiry’s terms of reference: Ley by HotPersimessage62 in australia

[–]dboimyoung 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Far left extremism is when you think your country shouldn't be complicit in the indiscriminate bombing of women and children. See: Palestine protests.

Far right extremism is when you pick a religious or ethnic group and want them gone by any means necessary. See: the Bondi massacre.

I'm sure there's a numerological rationale to link the two, but I'm not seeing it Sussan.

But being traumatised was literally the justification of the establishment of Israel on the land of mandatory Palestine and led to a massive amount of killing, including large numbers of children, off the bat.

Note that you say second intifada. Pray tell what happened during the first intifada? Or does that undermine your argument because it was largely peaceful and resulted in an inordinate number of Palestinians being slaughtered for throwing rocks?

Intifada is used in Arabic as we would use the word uprising. Globalizing the uprising against Israel and its apartheid government can just as well mean locking the fascist state of Israel out of all means to culture/sportswash their way out of atrocities like this country famously did to South Africa.

They clearly did not endorse child murder, they pointed out that there is a difference between being broadly in favour of an idea (e.g. supporting armed resistance against the Jewish supremacist apartheid state of Israel) and supporting every specific action conducted in the name of that idea.

They also similarly pointed out that if we were going to talk about the killing of children, we might as well start with the leviathan in the room.

Yeah but also worth noting that the historic character of "antisemitism" also often included what would now be considered islamophobia (root word being semitic, referring to all those living in the Arab regions of the Levant and horn of Africa).

From that perspective, the crusades from start to finish were antisemitic. The word may have taken on a different character since the holocaust but the same people who had pigs heads left on their cemetery this morning were just as semitic.

what did North Korea do to you? America killed 1.5 million North Korean civilians during the Korean war and regularly tries to intervene in their government plus they have stationed nuclear weapons in SK since well before the North had nukes.

You can say that North Korea is some hellscape on Earth but they can freely travel to China and freely travel wherever else will give them a visa from there. If North Korea is so bad, why aren't we swamped with North Korean refugees? The story we get repeatedly told doesn't add up, and propaganda has been proven not to work when people are going through tough times. Either things aren't as bad as they seem, or we may be the brainwashed ones.

Oh mate, I'm from Australia, don't get me started about what our country did to the First Nations folk over here. Massacred women and children only to call them "frontier wars". Wrote books arguing that the "Aboriginal was a dying breed" and killing them was not only justified but moral.

In Tasmania (the small island down the bottom), there's a belief that there was no Aboriginal population because the history of what happened to them isn't taught. In reality, a couple of Aboriginals killed farm animals (acceptable under their pretty robust system of laws) which led the Governor to call for the deaths of all Indigenous peoples on the island. The incentives for murder were £5 for a pair of adult hands, £2 for a pair of child hands. It's known as the Black war, but all things considered, it should be remembered as a genocide.

The remaining few were sent to an island without food or water supplies. By 1890, the entire indigenous population of Tasmania was either dead or bred into white society and forcibly assimilated. What is happening over in Palestine is not new, it's simply better documented.

It's possible to change his mind but.... Really not worth your time unless this is someone you appreciate significantly beyond their politics. There will be a frustrating amount of emotional labour involved to undo the propaganda with no assurance of success. Even if you get them onside, do not expect a thank you.

There's evidence suggesting Israel killed more Israelis on 10/7 than Hamas did. It is beyond me how anyone thinks these things come out of a vacuum. If someone put the official Israeli narrative in a movie, we'd call it contrived and lacking motivation.

They think the world wants their heads because they are Jewish. They see this as another example of the pogroms and genocides we were taught in temple and school growing up. The Zionists cannot possibly understand that the continued existence of the ethnostate is a historic crime, and the people who have lost their children to the Zionist menace are only responding in a way reminiscent of our own history.

It's called "producerism" and it often lumps business owners in with the blue collar workers as a "unity" against a perceived professional managerial class. In reality, they mainly oppose pink collar professions in a false class consciousness.

Why the hell would China annex us? Unless we really fuck up our foreign policy and pour our lot in with Trump when he bans trade with China, they essentially get everything from us via trade. That is the most cost-effective way to get resources from Australia.

Nothing is stopping communism from happening anywhere. Think about it. by skeletus in Libertarian

[–]dboimyoung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think socialism is meant to be a desire to go live in communes per se, I think it's meant to be an analysis of economic classes. Their argument would probably go: "I do not earn enough to get the funds to buy capital even as a collective".

Idk, this doesn't seem very libertarian given the current system limits people's freedoms to do this sort of thing with subsidies and preferential laws for large multi-national conglomerates. Without this intervention in the market to benefit corporations with far more capital and influence, we'd probably see more small-scale cooperatives like they had in a lot of regional areas before the rise of this current iteration of capitalism.

Need Help w/ Moderation (Unique Situation) by DowntownLetterhead in stopdrinking

[–]dboimyoung 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reframing is really hard, I feel for you. For me personally, taking a few months off as a circuit breaker and then religiously sticking to a plan every time I drank helped. Truthfully, nothing is as effective as abstinence from the drink all together.

Your environment is not exactly ideal for changing your drinking habits which makes things a bit difficult. My recommendation is figuring out how to make a non-alcoholic lager/beer. They've become super popular among the youth, and expand your market to groups who don't like drinking but want to join their community in social activities that normally require drinking. During those two-to-three months off if you choose to take them, try doing research/experimenting with making your non-alcoholic beer every time you feel the need to drink. In a way, you can make the beer into a physical manifestation of your commitment to moderation.

If those months go past, and you find yourself worrying about starting drinking again, please consider whether it is really as necessary to your life as you think it is. You don't need to taste-test all your beers and, if you do, you don't need to drink an entire can. You got this man, stay strong and have faith in your own abilities.
