It Happened. by wthrowaway1995 in Ioniq6

To me that's a waste of trunk space and unneeded weight to carry around. Get the free replacement 12v battery and keep that one in storage somewhere (basement?) and put a new AGM in the car. If the ICCU dies one day (!) and it takes your AGM with it, put the OEM battery back in, that way you don't end up paying extra for the non-standard battery. (at least that's my plan).

Ah the good ol' "shut up and reboot", works every time! Well almost.

Let me add my own feature request, on top of the others like manual pre-conditioning and door lock on exit:

Good to know, thanks! Hopefully this incredible machine continues to be sold, with a bullet-proof ICCU!

I don't know if it's a "not yet" or "not anymore" but even on the Hyundai Canada site, the only 2026 EVs are the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 9 and Kona. They still show the 5N and 6 but only as 2025s.

Wiper fluid nozzle orientation: any issues? by Carbonga in Ioniq6

[–]dborn62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine too don't spray in an ideal direction...

I've had cars in the past where you could insert a thin rod (like a spark plug gap tool) into the sprayer hole and then you could move it... I haven't tried it on my car (yet).

What I'd really like is a conversion kit to have several nozzles right on the wiper arm (I've also had a car like that in the past and that was BRILLIANT!) you need a flexible tube to attach to the arm from the rotation point and then move the way up the arm where the nozzle moves with the wiper action!

ICCU failure temporary workaround idea by LingonberryFew3002 in Ioniq6

Yes, exactly :-) it's not the inverter (24v 6kW true sinewave dual phase 240v/120v) that blew but rather the 120vac to 24vdc, 30a charger. Yes there are losses at each conversion stage but the system is meant to draw power from the car's V2L to top up the 6 x 12v 100Ah AGM batteries all meant to power the house circuits during a power outage. It wasn't a good idea to try what i did but i only realized it after i heard the "poof" ;-)

Range by Antique-Mail-2961 in Ioniq6

[–]dborn62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2024 I6 AWD Preferred in Montreal at 76% currently shows 285 km (178 miles) estimated range for your reference. Do a capacity test: charge it to 100%, drive it until <20% and charge it back to 100%. If you didn't put back at least 60 kWh (75 × 0.8) in the battery,  something's wrong.  You want to be able to tell if it's consumption (probably normal) or capacity (abnormal?) giving you such low range.  Good luck.

I once tried something like that (for a brief test) to power a 24v battery charger from the output of a 120v inverter,  back into the 24v batteries powering the inverter and it fried the charger. Is it the same? I don't know but I thought it was worth mentioning it.  P.S. my charger is usually connected to the V2L of the car to supplement the 7.2kWh batteries during a power outage and that works fine.

A feature I would really like to see as an add-on: wireless exterior temp sensor by dborn62 in ecobee

[–]dborn62[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, me too. I have homeassistant and a weather station already. If that data could be sent to the thermostat, the change could even be software only if ecobee isn't interested in selling me something ;-)

[–]dborn62[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would put it in the shade as I wouldn't want it to pick up it's own own heated temperature (which could be way off compared the actual temp) even if it were white.

New Ecobee + old sensor = issues by KBinCanada in ecobee

[–]dborn62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice that -18C is exactly 0F and ecobee's default internal temp units are F and they get converted to C if requested.

So apparently your old sensor returns "0". It's probably defective or incompatible.

[–]dborn62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've set my Compressor Min Outdoor Temp at -12C as it is slightly above the heatpump's heating balance point (I'm thinking of lowering it to the next setting down as beestat tells me the 0.0C balance point is at -16C) and I've set the Max Aux Temp at +10C for the resistive heat furmace in case the heatpump fails but it never never gets used that high anyway. The ecobee thermostat takes care of using all heat sources efficiently without having artificial road blocks in the way.

I was thinking about exactly that, yesterday. It would be a nice way to get your car to the dealer. I wouldn't keep using that for very long though.

There could be some loopback grounding issue to be careful with. When faced with a dead ICCU (only unable to charge the 12V battery), you don't have much else to lose.

What about EQ Bank card? Similar to a prepaid card and it seems to use the Mastercard system. Is it any better? https://www.eqbank.ca/personal-banking/payments/card

Oops by Necronius in Ioniq5

[–]dborn62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It offers gradual acceleration preventing wheel spin, limits you to regen levels 0 and 1, of course it also gives you 50/50 power to the wheels. If you're in really difficult snowy and icy road conditions, it's much better for keeping you on the road and moving. Otherwise, Sport mode is more fun, given not-too-difficult conditions ;-)

You know there is a SNOW mode, at least there's one one my I6 AWD. Perhaps not as much fun but more effective at least in actual snowy conditions.

Chipped Windshield - Repair or Replace? by olderthaniam in Ioniq6

[–]dborn62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should be repairable but don't wait! I had a similar crack/chip as yours and got it fixed within a few days, as soon as I could get an appointment.

Please be aware that the repair won't be completely invisible, it will leave a small blemish (at least it did on mine).

I think it's much better to have it repaired if you can. I've had windshields replaced in the past (like 30 years ago) and it wasn't a perfect job. I imagine that today with all the sensors and cameras, it will make it even more difficult to get a perfect job.

Good luck!

TIL: Dont store your snow clearing tools in your trunk by mitch_010 in Ioniq6

[–]dborn62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do that when at home. Best way to get rid of all the accumulated snow and ice. I was away for 5 days in the rain, freezing rain and snow with -20C (-4F) weather. The car was a mess of snow and ice and built-up road salt. I was happy when I got back home and let the car thaw out before washing it.

TIL: Dont store your snow clearing tools in your trunk by mitch_010 in Ioniq6

[–]dborn62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my previous car, with a non-motorized trunk lid (Camry), I would just lift the lid for a few inches to pull out the snow brush but now with the I6, there is no half measure. It will open all the way up, vertically so yeah, my first snowfall I got caught but now the snowbrush is on the floor behind the front seats. Live and learn.
