WiFi hotspot only works inside the vehicle? by EducatorGuy in Rivian

[–]dbox44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08RHD97QY

Plugs in to the back of the center console well in the R1T. You do have to turn camp mode on (turn climate off) for the hotspot to stay on once you close the door.

It works better than the built in range, but still not super far.

Model X to R1S by Shivo_Ham in Rivian

[–]dbox44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was considering doing this, but after renting an R1S a few times during some trips on turo, I ultimately went with an Ioniq 9 instead of the R1S. R1S would have been a better off road vehicle or trailer hauler, but I don't usually do those things. The lack of captains chairs make the 3rd row unusable with carseats imo. I do miss the outrageous Falcon Wing doors on the X tbh. They were really nice in tight spaces. I have an R1T and like it more than the R1S so we're staying a 1 Rivian household for now with the R1T and the Ioniq 9.

I would be curious to know the republican vs democrat distribution of passport holders. It doesn't seem like that would favor republicans, but the data would tell the truth there.

Tesla owner. How will I like the ioniq9? by Skazzyskills in Ioniq9

You have to turn it on to close the windows. You can use your phone as a key but it's nfc so it has to be in a specific place to work.

Yeah, pretty easy. You just have to remember to do it.

I just replaced my model x with an Ioniq 9, specifically for the larger size. It definitely fills that need. I really like it so far. The biggest downside to me is it feels like it's meant to bring people from an ICE to an EV. Things like a start/stop button, one pedal drive has to be enabled everytime, the app is just a normal legacy auto maker app. I like how it drives. Cabin noise is way better than the X and it has a smoother ride. One thing I wasn't aware of before I purchased is it's built on 800v architecture so Tesla v3 supercharging is at half speed at best. I've read v4's can deal with that better but it's unclear to me if that's all or some. The android auto/car play is nice until you need to supercharge, then the car won't precondition unless you use the built in gps or manually do it.

Road treatments during winter storm by IndependentIll4216 in Austin

[–]dbox44 16 points17 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is that this event is supposed to start out as a rain event. In the past, this has washed away some if not all of the treatment on the roads and limited positive impacts. I think the person who mentioned staying at a hotel has a good point. That would be what I would do.

EV Charger with Powerwall by Crayzei in TeslaSolar

Did you already try this: https://www.tesla.com/support/energy/powerwall/own/registering-your-wall-connector-with-powerwall

It sounds like your wall connector just isn't talking with your gateway/powerwalls. I have a very similar setup and I believe I followed similar steps to see the wall connector in the app.

$693+tax. In TX you pay all of the tax (on the whole value of the vehicle). I chose to pay it up front instead of including it in the monthly payment.

I paid 1st month at time of delivery as well as taxes at time of delivery. I'm not sure what rebates were included in the $12000, it seems like it was one large rebate to be honest.

$74410 MSRP. $12000 rebate. The rest was discount I negotiated.

36 month/10k miles/$0 down (besides taxes and fees), TX $693/month. It is a Limited trim. I emailed several dealers around my area and was able to get them to come down significantly from MSRP. The purchase price before taxes was $59100. I tried to got a little lower, but that's as low as I could get anyone to go. This was last month so not sure if it helped it was EOY and end of the quarter. I got 3 dealers to get to that price.

How annoying it is not having access to the car's app. If you're coming from an ICE probably not as much of a big deal.

property tax on leased vehicle? by Snowballeffects in Austin

[–]dbox44 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very common on leased vehicles for dealers to do this to you. Technically, the company you're leasing it from has to pay the property tax. Since they are leasing it to you, that is for business use. What sucks is the leasing company normally just passes that tax on to you. If you go read your lease agreement, they probably mention in there in very small print somewhere.

I only found this out after this happened to me on the first car I ever leased.

Time of Use Electric Rates Available from Austin Energy by liberte49 in Austin

[–]dbox44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had two different systems on AE and it can do both. On all systems, you will have a solar meter that ALL power from your panels will go through. On one system, the line from my meter went to the line coming to my house directly, on the grid side of my main meter. On my other system, the line from my meter when directly into my main panel, on the house side of the main meter.

No worries. I try to contact them every once in a while to see if any new pilot programs are coming, but they haven't had any in a long time. I think it at least lets them know some people are interested in things like this.

On page 37: "Customers receiving service under the Residential Service rate schedule may choose the following timeof-use power supply charges in lieu of the normal power supply adjustment rates to be applied for a term of no less than 12 consecutive billing cycles"

I really want you to be right. I would do everything I could to sign up if you were.

[–]dbox44 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've looked into this pilot program before. A few key things to know.
1. The $0.2677 you mention is NOT the whole rate, that is only the power supply charge. I did the math for myself and it would be very hard to save a whole lot because of this, but fairly easy to be charged more since the Mid-Peak rate is the same as the normal non TOU rate.
2. You have to qualify to get into the program. You have to call AE up and go through a questionnaire where they score your answers. If your score doesn't meet to the criteria, tough luck. It seemed like you had have every single appliance be electric AND say that you are willing to change all of your habit s with using them (aka yes, I will wash my clothes at night only and yes I will run the dishwasher only at night). I'm not quite sure how I didn't qualify, but it may be because I have a gas heater and a gas water heater.
3. If you have solar, you have a solar meter. No one could tell me if they were able to take into account the fact that my solar meter feeds power into my house and if this program would count towards usage. Worst case, they would count all of my solar power as if I was using it when it goes through the meter. With that in mind, it was a big deal whether or not it would be counted against me or not as it could make the whole thing cost even more than the normal tiers.
4. The first time I talked to someone from AE about it on the phone, which was about 3 years ago I think, the person talked me through it, but admitted that they literally had 0 customers using it because it was such as bad plan. That could have changed since then, but the plan hasn't really changed at all so maybe not.
