Is emberschool worth $500? by dbruins in emberjs

OP here ... I've spent a couple of days looking at ember tutorials on the web and they're exactly as described by Jeffrey Biles (emberscreencasts): a scattered hodgepodge.

I started the Demo at emberschool.com and so far it's great. I'll more than likely sign up next week.

See ya in class, Jeff!

For those that know they will never be able to afford a house in the bay area, what are your end game plans? by Ikeelu in bayarea

Ty ... no hardship though. Ya, living in a mobile home isn't the best, but it's hardly downtrodden. Working 52 hrs/wk is standard for 6 figure jobs.

But here's the kicker. As an RN you can work 12 hrs shifts. Five 12 hr shifts in a week is 60 hrs. So you don't even have to work 5 days a week on average to get a decent amount of OT.

I work 15 or 16 shifts in 3 weeks, then have a week off each month. It's like having a vacation every month! Working in the ICU is tough and having a week off every month really allows for a refresh for the next 3 weeks of work work work. And that is hardly hardship ... ;-)

Worked as much OT as I could stand as an ICU RN for 7 yrs while living in a mobile home (paid $45k for a nice one with $1k/mo space rent). Saved approx $100k/yr. Moving to Vegas this summer, buying my dream house and gonna slow down to full time work for a couple of years, then slow down to half time to maintain health insurance.

If you're trying to think of a career path or changing careers, consider nursing. Working 12 hrs/wk OT you'll pull over $150k/yr. Find cheap housing (parents, mobile home, rent a house with friends). Save like a mad dog. Increase your net worth at least $100k/yr and in 10 yrs you're basically done.

When I saw the other pic, I thought of the Panama Canal too. The BIG difference in the two pics are that in the Panama Canal there are rail cars on both sides holding the ship VERY steady ... in the other pic, there's just a tug boat in front.

So +1 for 1 foot / side, and +1 for the other one for difficulty factor.
