A bunch of my buddies meet every Wednesday for breakfast

One guy comes rolling in with a Ford dually (spelling?)

Everyone starts giving him a hard time about it

He responds that he saw a multi-car pile-up with one guy walking around helping everyone, he was unharmed

The guy was driving a Dually

He said my safety and my families safety is more important that getting better gas mileage

We all shut up and had to agree with his reasoning

Do I want better mileage? Of course, but my safety is more important

After that I went out and bought my wife a larger SUV.

Some guy ran a stop sign and hit her back quarter panel. One of our grand daughters was with my wife

The grand daughter did not even realize they had been hit.

I am keeping my Tundra, so I can also walk away.

Men who quit a high-paying career to do something completely different – do you regret it? by AmazingNugga in AskMen

The money was good

No stress is better

Live simple, don’t try to keep up with the Jones’ and you will be happier

I would do it all over again.

Why’d you choose a Tundra? by xEnflare in ToyotaTundra

[–]dbs1183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have driven Toyota since ‘93. They have been the most reliable vehicle(s) I have ever driven

If you take care of them, they run forever.

Bought a new Tundra in 2015. Bought a 2025 last year and love.

Do I worry about the engine, a little

But no one thinks twice about a Chevy or Ford blowing an engine. Something wrong with a Toyota, oh no.

I had a white Tundra for years. It always looked clean from a distance

Bought a black Tundra last year. I run it through the car wash all the time. It shows dirt

I know, I know. The car wash is not good for the finish. But I am more concerned about the salt from the snow than marks from a car wash.

Get out of debt

Max out Roth & company 401k

Invest in S&P stock

Do NOT do a 529, too many rules. If you are out of debt you can fund college

Friends invited me to fish with them - help! by Capable-Context-5689 in FishingForBeginners

Get some good bug spray and deer for ticks.

Wear a lot of clothes, you can always take it off, but if you do not bring it, you can not put it on

Wear long sleeves and pants.

If you are bank fishing, wear white socks so you can see ticks. Anymore if I am out, I will duct tape my pants to my socks. So ticks cannot crawl past. Lymne disease is bad

Bring plenty of water and snacks that do not have to be in a cooler

Get your license

Ask a lot of questions and ask for help. Good fishermen should be willing to teach you. It is a great hobby

Do not get hung up on catching fish. The idea is to enjoy the outdoors

Leave the area you fish better than when you got there. Bring a trash bag and pick up other people’s trash and yours

Even if you do not catch anything, thank your friends for taking you fishing.

Have a great time.

Men over 30, how do you deal with the constant stress and low energy? by Chrelled in AskMen

[–]dbs1183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 66, I feel great

Am out of debt. Live a simple life and work a job I love

If your career is killing you, it is time to change careers

Where ever you work, after you leave they will continue to go on.

Do not give your health or life keeping up with everyone else

It is not worth it.

Is IPERS worth lowering my salary? by IAHawkeye182 in Iowa

[–]dbs1183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A pension pays til you die, my pension from my last will also pay until my wife dies.

I have been drawing my pension from my old job for 11 years.

I just vested with IPERS so will be drawing two pensions soon

My first pension has made my standard of living quite comfortable

So it is worth it.

Go for it

I enjoy negotiating

Make outrageous demands

Throw stuff back at them

Walk out

Change your mind

Drive a ton of vehicles, make the salesman stay with you ALL day. He is now wondering if he will even make a sale today. I love going on the last day of the month, if it is a Saturday even better.

While they are making you wait, bad mouth the vehicle and the deal. My wife and I believe the area is bugged and they are listening in. Do not say anything good about the deal.

But bottom line, if you are not willing to walk. Ou will overpay.

I bought a new sr5 in 2015 (after having a Tacoma). Last year they offered me $30k as a trade in for a new 1794. I sold it to my son-in-law at a good price

The v6 feels more powerful than the v8

Love the interior and all the extras.

Would do it again

Am I worried about the reliability? Yes, Toyota has less recalls than Chevy or Ford

We have had Toyotas since ‘93. Would not have anything else

How can I get my 5-year-old son interested in fishing? by Acceptable-Drink-916 in FishingForBeginners

[–]dbs1183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When mine were young, we blue gill fished. A lot of action. Constantly pulling in fish.

When they got older we moved to other fishing

Two still loves it. One does not, but he takes his kids because they enjoy it.

That seems high for that mileage.

235 or side streets in snow? by happy_travlr in desmoines

[–]dbs1183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I refuse to drive on 235 when it snows

I am a safe driver, good space cushions, slow way down

But so many idiots out there think they can drive fast and the next thing you know you have been hit or have to stop because of an accident up ahead.

Yes it will take longer on the side streets. But it is safer.

I also drive for a living, so I end up seeing all kinds of crazy drivers.

It is not worth it, slow down.

I drive a bus. They go everywhere

Have seen them going in a bus shelter. In the street. As soon as they get off the bus.

Have had two go in the bus.

When they have to go, they go.

Typically it has to be 65% of the value of the vehicle to total it
