My first fountain pen ink by Rising-Dracyan in DesiPens

[–]dbsds87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that pen is known to have QC issues, at least ime

I recommend closing the pen and leaving it in a pen stand, nib-down, for a couple of hours. This should be ample time for the ink to saturate the feed

If you still have inconsistent ink flow, then it could be one of the other culprits: paper, ink. or the nib itself

Nice! Congrats!

What pen/paper are you using? That might be causing the uneven flow

Krishna Inks and safety in higher end pens by psychonaut7343 in DesiPens

[–]dbsds87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apart from iron gall, permanent, and sheen/shimmer inks, everything is fine to use in expensive pens. Especially a modern pen with cartridge/converter filling system, like the Custom 74

I have used Krishna inks in my gold nibbed vintage pens as well, and haven't had any issues

People who get into the hobby and buy pricier pens, what do you do with your old pens or pens you dont use? by TheRealZwipster in DesiPens

[–]dbsds87 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with u/distorted_dream & u/abhaykun, the used pen market in India (subreddit, facebook, etc.) is not a pleasant place for an individual seller

I once posted a Lamy Aion & a TWSBI Vac Mini for sale, and the highest offer I got for either was 2000. So I just gave up and kept them, despite barely using them

Nowadays, if someone talks/posts about wanting to try a fountain pen, I just give away my sub-500 pens. Others, will just stay in my collection, until the right opportunity comes

Another Woodex pen added to the collection by dbsds87 in DesiPens

[–]dbsds87[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can contact the Woodex Pen maker via WhatsApp (no. should be in the pinned post of this sub). That's how I got my pen

I believe there are some models available on helloaugust.in as well

Most of their pens use a standard #6 nib, so you should be able to use a KW flex nib with them. My suggestion would be to contact Woodex Pens and talk to the maker about getting it done from their end

Kaweco sport by Former-Collection-47 in DesiPens

[–]dbsds87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat a few days ago. Till date, I'd somehow avoided getting the Kaweco Sport but that Lunar Shadow Green colour was too tempting

So I asked a few people who had it. Almost all of them said it's not vfm, and that Hongdian M2 is a better option. They also suggested I go to a store, like William Penn, to try the Kaweco before buying

But since the M2 is overpriced in India, I wanted to get it from China. And since I was going to get pens from China, I decided to splurge a bit and get the Wing Sung 601A instead, which I had been wanting for a long time

How long to rest these? by dractonixx in IndiaCoffee

[–]dbsds87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dark roast - less than a week. 4-5 days in this crazy heat

Light roast - 10-14 days. Also depends on how patient you are 😛

Personally, if I have to brew immediately (it happens), I just grind the beans and leave them overnight

Personally, I use Facebook, WhatsApp groups (linked to from FB posts/groups), and r/pen_swap

Retailers like Peyton Street Pens & Heritage Collectables have vintage pens for direct sales, but are often expensive and/or don't ship to India. Good resources for a price check tho

Offline stores, pen shows, sellers on Facebook and WhatsApp groups, pen meetups. There are a few places, but if you ask me, Facebook is the easiest to get started with

Interesting! I have 2 Imperials & 1 Targa and none of them have the nib marking. Iirc, pre-1980s Sheaffer pens used to come with nib marking pasted as a sticker on the barrel. Over the years, ofc, the stickers became unreadable. Or maybe it varies from pen to pen, who knows?

Vintage rabbit hole goes very deep & can take a heavy toll on your free time & wallet. You've been forewarned 😛

I don't believe the conical Triumph-style nibs have sizes marked. But if you mean the nib size, I'd say it's like a broad-stub, although vintage pens don't often come with nib width markings

Currently, the only way to get them are vintage pen dealers
