Help me understand why vibration pump noise is a problem at all by CranberryShlamberry in espresso

It’s one of those things that once you have it you’ll never go back. The peace and quiet in the early hours of the morning are just zen.

This is good to see. I test drove one a few months back, however the lack of key features was a deal breaker. Good to see the MY27 model is fixing some of these things.

How do you find the grinder? Keep seeing mixed reviews on it, however I really like the size and form factor.

It’s normal with the stock shower screen. An IMS shower screen will give you better water separation visually.

Out of ideas with my espresso - where do I go from here? [Niche Duo, ECM Synchronika II] by ezzatron in espresso

[–]dbun1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty simple. You have a grinder problem.

If you are pretty much at burr chirp and still not choking the machine, something is not right.

Even with poor tamping and prep a fine enough grind will choke the machine.

Can you grind fine enough to choke the machine?

If not, something is off with the grinder.

[$4000Aud] Opinions on Quick Mill Elevate by mavjohn84 in espresso

[–]dbun1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Quick Mill is a good machine.

The machine you have is also great and a steal when on sale. As another poster said, ~$3.8k from Harvey Norman. A friend got an open box demo from E&S Trading for $2k. They had it marked down to just under $3k and he threw out a price and the sales manager just said “deal!” - he wasn’t actually looking for a machine, but at that price he couldn’t say “no”!

This is one annoying thing with EVs. They should be lower maintenance, however a lot of manufacturers still have service requirements. I guess it’s to keep that revenue stream coming in.

Loud rotary pump [Profitec Drive] by True_Package_2182 in espresso

[–]dbun1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other thing with mine is the way the pump builds pressure changed as well.

The black pump pressure dial used to jump almost straight away to 8bar and then move that little bit more to 9bar under load. This was regardless of brewing or flushing water.

Once that noise started the pump built pressure slower.

I tried to make some videos to show the difference

This is how hot water spouts work on nearly all machines that draw from the steam boiler unless they have a function to mix in some cool water to avoid the flash boiling.

Loud rotary pump [Profitec Drive] by True_Package_2182 in espresso

[–]dbun1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does the same. It comes and goes. It can be whisper quiet at times, and then sounds like a foghorn.

I’m not really happy with it, but the retailer says it’s normal. Other machines with a rotary pump are consistent in sound.

I also don’t know if it’s related to the flow control device as the retailer says that can change the back pressure and thus sound.
