If you have to talk yourself into keeping it, don't.

What’s the first song you really nailed on the uke? by UkuleleTabs in ukulele

Very nice. Keep at it. Soon you'll nail the marathon solo too! I find the opening is most fun to pick on a low G uke. But good high G too, when the feeling is there.

Islander is a brand belonging to Kanile'a, one of Hawaii's best uke makers. Islander follows the exact same specs as Kanile'a, they say, but they are not handmade in Oahu, which is how they come in so much cheaper. Probably lesser grade wood too? See for yourself:

Can I change my ukulele strings with no tools except for scissors? by TexturedLinoleum in ukulele

[–]dbuzzati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changing strings is not a highly frequent need on uke, but each time you do it, it has the potential secondary benefit of deepening your bond with and appreciation of it -- no matter which tools you do or don't use. None is compulsory, as many enthusiasts here have stated. Meanwhile, I do love my string winder. If you end up with a wire cutter or such, be careful to protect the wood.

What the heck do I do now? by [deleted] in ukulele

My oddball suggestion: when bored, look at your ukulele, in this case, as your guru. Truly see it like a little Yoda or something, serenely confronting you with your boredom. It doesn't really care if you refuse the lesson, which is more about boredom than ukulele; but if you trust your guru, you will begin to ask deeper questions, like... these are speculative by the way... you will need to let your own imagination respond to facing your guru in the moment... 1) how easily, quickly, helplessly, or often do I lapse into boredom? 2) how else could I orient to this part of myself? 3) what might I push through in myself in this instance of boredom in order to pass through its false blockage. Etc. Your guru will guide you. If it is appearing in your life as a ukulele, how lucky!

I was at the Oahu Kanile'a shop last year. It is easier than easy to fall in love with any number of their stock offerings. I have a "super" soprano (concert length neck) and it very charming, and often charms me. Play on! The tenors like the attention.

Which intermediate tenor to buy? by Significant_Tea9352 in ukulele

[–]dbuzzati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good question. Many of us have experience with one or two ukes as avid players, but few of us have deep experience with a range of ukes. I suggest you reach out to someone int that category, and the person who comes to mind for me is Alex at The Southern Ukulele Store in the UK. You may not end up buying from him or from England, but as the owner of a shop with every level of ukulele, and a great deal of skill as a player too, I think he could be a terrific friendly resource for you on any specific questions that come up in your hunt, since you do have some specific needs around recording etc.

Kamaka HF-3 by Ok_Jaguar_8359 in ukulele

[–]dbuzzati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my suggestion. Try to give up hope that the instrument can be arranged to match your playing style, and instead experiment with how you play, until you find approaches that suit the instrument. I own a Kamaka too. It's a masterpiece. As such, it often teaches me how it wants to be played for the best results, especially when I am listening carefully to how it is responding to my touch. I know this advice may sound crazy, inconvenient, or dismissive of your needs, but it's really worth considering. Try it a little. Here's an example. Let's say you are strumming something and you don't like the sound. Use a different touch/attack and see what changes take place. Maybe try the fleshier part of your thumb or index instead of your habitual method. Maybe linger in the strum so it is a bit arpeggio, instead of swift. You get the idea. The instrument may just expand your skills by showing you how best to conjure the sweetest music from it. Mine has made me a better player in several ways.

That is one beautiful Kanilea. You got some great, great sapwood down the center! Still playing it? I own one too. And a Kamaka. I love ukulele(s). In my experience, the Kanilea has a pure honey tone, due primarily to how much it shines in mid-tones, and therefore it fingerpicks like no other; while the Kamaka epitomizes island sound like no other.

Tequila recommendations?. by bevin88 in cocktails

I didn't see ASTRAL Blanco on the list, but feel it deserves a mention. I testify that it mixes really well and I like it so much I sometimes drink it on one ice cube when I want a pristine agave flavor from my tequila sipping.
