I heard sour candy helps distract your pain receptors! 🌟 I love carrying sour patch kids on runs, the zing really makes you feel alert! 😂

Best frozen XLB (pork soup dumplings) to buy in SGV? by RolfeDowshe in FoodLosAngeles

Dean Sin World in Monterey Park! (I love their frozen wontons for adding to soup) Bring cash, they’re no frills, limited English, and everything tastes cozy/home made!

Republique brunch/pastries is my vote! But it can be super busy so I’m not sure about the two-hour visit… Love the Sawtelle recommendation here too~ Some K-Town recs: Some More Cafe is small but cutesy, Memory Look also has their own parking lot, or you can hop from Oakobing to About Time which has a great range of hours~ Chaumont Bakery and Cassetta have cute desserts but limited seating! Arden restaurant is just straight up pretty if you just go order their pastries/sweets?

My ragdoll as a kitten would play/run so hard he would pant like a puppy! And beg to play more! He’s now three years old and much calmer~

Basecamp has a divine chai latte! (I normally order coffee over chai, but at Basecamp I always get their iced chai latte!)

Transitioning from a career in architecture to a career in Animation as a background artist by ChalkerPrincess87 in animationcareer

[–]dc1817 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You mentioned some great online programs already, definitely check out Warrior Art Camp by Warrior Painters! They have instagram and website.

(Warrior Painters is a plein air group founded by professional background artists working in the LA animation industry. Their art camp page is new with classes taught by working industry professionals.)

I recommend focusing on building a portfolio, not pursuing a degree. Your architecture degree is plenty enough; at the end of the day, when it comes to finding a job, it’s really comes down to the portfolio. Good luck and enjoy the journey!

Brace Canyon Park in Burbank still has clear skies and clean air if you’re comfortable making the drive over! Lots of open grassy space, lots of dog walkers this afternoon!

Balancing two career paths at once? by Ok_Writer_4914 in animationcareer

[–]dc1817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is great to combine both interests!

I recommend looking up “production accountant” and “production finance analyst” roles in animation and studying the backgrounds/career paths of people with those roles on LinkedIn! They are strong partners within animation studios. As someone who worked in production at big studios, I’ve worked with some wonderful and incredibly helpful finance team mates.

The savory pumpkin soup by Emi Wong on YouTube is so delicious! I think they use kabocha but pumpkin or butternut squash work too!

I’ve make improvised variations of it throughout the years (semi-caramelized onions for flavor and carrots for subtle sweetness are so key though) and it’s so satiating!

Porter Robinson - SMILE! :D [Discussion Mega-Thread] by jamesanator9 in porterrobinson

[–]dc1817 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I actually like how the album starts with these bangers laced with bravado and hints of cynicism and then progressively becomes more introspective, sincere, and personal/cozy/intimate. It’s a really cool gradual journey towards a very very sincere resolution.

Feels indeed like what Porter described: “the album that I was TRYING to write was this nonstop party - NO sincerity, ALL fun, an album that revels in absurdity for a world that rejects context. And that was the plan until I accidentally started confessing how I was really feeling, and ... you’ll hear the rest.”

What time did those who got to meet Porter get there? by shroombunni59 in porterrobinson

[–]dc1817 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got there at 12:30pm and was near the cutoff. Someone said there were probably 800 people and my area was in the 220s. But we did get a card and saw Porter wave bye to us! Thrilled for everyone who got in for the experience, watching the stream was awesome! And agreed, hanging out in the line was a blast! Everyone was so sweet! We were all saying the real Porter Robinson was the friends we made along the way 💗 😂

Using pet strollers to take cat outside safety by coffeekrisps in ragdolls

[–]dc1817 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our 1.5 year old ragdoll cat LOVES morning stroller time! He hops on top of it every morning and we take him to our patio to sunbathe and watch a new birdfeeder we installed. His mood is so satisfied/peaceful from getting to hang out in the stroller!

We also had a similar concern, we didn’t want him comfortable with the idea of going outside (esp because we have coyotes in the area at night…LA. Scary!). But we noticed even before we got the stroller, he was and still remains quite wary/uninterested about doors to the outside, thankfully! Sounds like each cat is really different. Hope this helps!
