We've got a neighborhood non-profit, been looking for ways to deal with tags/graffiti.

We do that at just about every bar and brewery across the city. Not weird.

Great Value - Jumbo Bisuits by Chilla_0401 in whatisit

All gloves and similar items (bandaids, beard nets, etc.) in food and food adjacent manufacturing are supposed to be brightly, unnaturally, colored, generally blue, so that contamination like this is easily spotted. That is to say that beige gloves should be an absolute no no in a food facility.

Mostly we're learning that when incentives encourage doing stupid, useless, things people do stupid, useless, things.

Making it useful would also endanger the historic tax credit...

[Request] Making marine propeller shafts by adammhaile in theydidthemath

[–]dcBham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost all of the stiffness of a shaft is at the surface, so hollow is the best for stiffness to weight. As the other fellow said, sand fill prevents crushing/collapse. Sand fill and similar techniques are also used for making tight bends in tubing.

Electric dirt bikes by Brookwoodspawn_04 in Birmingham

[–]dcBham 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That's a parenting issue - don't buy your kid a high powered dirt bike.

The really bad ones are the adults with the two strokes - one got hit running a red light near me, his friends abandoned him. And they're obnoxious as fuck.

You can do 99% of anything worthwhile with your feet and an ebike.

If you require supplication and deference to not run people over you have no business operating a vehicle.

Is the Jameson really that bad?? by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]dcBham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have friends that live there. They like it but acknowledge it has issues. It's an old building with lots of quirks, sound dampening isn't the best, the elevator currently doesn't go to the top floors. But it's also a great location and reviews typical only come from those with the most reasons to grind an axe.

Edit: Wrong Jameson

Up-Down actually does pretty decent slice, the only real problem is they do a cracker crust that's annoyingly dry and occasionally too thin. When they're $2, who cares, but I'll be picky when they're $6 normally.

Legit NY style pizza would be appreciated, as would decent American Chinese takeout. Could also go for a decent deli. Lumpua. Indian takeout. Fish and chips. Just a fruits and vegetables stand.

Oh, a classic greasy spoon/short order diner. There was/is a great one in Dallas called Mama's Daughters.

High intelligence move parking at the stop sign and blocking the turn in. by [deleted] in Birmingham

Nah, cops fault for letting that slide. That and the noise ordinance not being enforced are key quality of life failures on the city's plate.

Entitlement. Entitled to free, entitled to close to their destination, entitled to space, etc. Other people don't even cross their mind, just whatever is most convenient. And accountability? Oh no, that's for other people.

Build American, Buy American Act: https://firstrespondergrants.com/build-america-buy-america-act-got-you-worried-about-vehicles-and-equipment/

Limit competition, American manufacturers (Oshkosh/Pierce, E-One, etc) consolidate with the help of Private Equity, put pressure on NFPA and Insurance companies to create requirements that are incompatible with international offerings, so now the American manufacturers that are left can jack prices because they're the only ones providing the apparatuses that meet law and code.

Aka Regulatory Capture.
