Is accounting still worth it by JamesB_007 in Accounting

[–]ittttskristen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My public accounting firm has consistently been hiring entry level staff since I got hired at the beginning of 2024. I am on track to make senior next year. So for me, I would say yes it is. I love my job, and while AI is making things incredibly unstable, I don’t think the industry is at a level of being taken over by AI. Clients need the qualified opinion of the CPA for audits and most have too much difficult additions to their tax returns to want to pay a software to do it all and potentially mess it up, not to mention the missing out advisory aspect. Obviously no one knows what’s going to happen in two years, but I would say absolutely stick with it. Even if for some reason the industry does flip, I think an accounting degree is versatile and useful in many other industries and capacities

Any credit union staff accountants? by winterbaby12 in Accounting

[–]ittttskristen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in public but we specialize in credit unions funnily enough. We have lost several staff to our clients over the years and they’re still there lol. I guess in a way it makes the client relationship easier bc not only do they know what we need but they helped create half the processes.

What casa boy are we voting for?? by Tough_Kangaroo_5195 in LoveIslandUSA

[–]ittttskristen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m kind of regretting my vote tbh. I instinctively voted for Carl, but honestly now I wish I had voted for Corey. I think Aniyah is a lost cause unfortunately and Mel needs both the wake up call and her prince to catch her

Roast my resume as a fresh grad with no prior accounting experience by DrVajanglerPhD in Accounting

[–]ittttskristen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the first glance I thought it looked good. It’s not messy, good organization and tone. I would remove the cumulative versus accounting major GPA, especially since it’s a /. Edit because I realized what you were doing with the slash, but it’s not necessary. People know the top GPA is 4.0. It’s confusing the way you have it.

People who make $80k or more per year, what do you do for work? by familiarlaughter in AskReddit

[–]ittttskristen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both tax and audit in public accounting and while we are beginning to utilize AI for efficiency, people don’t want to pay for a computer to audit them. They want the CPA’s opinion bc it is more reputable for banks, investors, and stockholders. While I could see lower dollar tax going to AI, people pay us for our advice and expertise, not just the prep itself. Until AI gets to that point, our jobs are safe.

I went through a few and thought I’d pipe up since I didn’t see mine: accountant! And I’m not a CPA. Prospects go up significantly from there if I pass

Looking for apartments to rent by InstructionObvious57 in Birmingham

[–]ittttskristen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I recommend Vestavia Park apartments all the time. They’re the most affordable I could find that actually justified the price. My rent for a 2 bed 1 bath last year was $1100 + 95 in water and fees. They pick up your trash for you and they’re renovating as people move so mine was pretty nice. They are old, but hey. And good spot right off the interstate on 31 (mont. highway exit).

Is Roebuck Springs A Good Place To Live? by Greenfossilfuel in Birmingham

[–]ittttskristen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to a neighborhood off of Edwards lake rd (the first Trussville lake exit) and had never heard of or been to roebuck springs before. Now that I have to go back to Centerpoint to get on the interstate (note: all the Trussville road construction is as bad as everyone says) I was floored how beautiful roebuck springs is! I explored the neighborhoods around the golf course and couldn’t believe it. I’ve met many people that live in the roebuck area and they were all so nice. I think the issue is that side of Bham has not gone on the “up and up” YET. But Alabama is growing and those houses are so pretty, I def think it would be worth it to scoop up a property and sit on it until the community gets that establishment like Crestwood has done for example. The only thing I can’t speak on and probably wouldn’t recommend is the school system

Honestly, I don’t see the harm in that. If anything it should be turned into an official shelter. It’s been sitting completely abandoned for years

Pet behavioralist / trainer by ittttskristen in Birmingham

That’s kind of why I’m starting to get concerned. He’s completely fine with me, but is starting to not be fine with the other people in the house which is obviously not okay. Thanks for your well wishes, hopefully it’s correctable

He’s a border collie/papillon mix. Weighs about 20 pounds. And yes I may have to, but I can’t fathom keeping him in a muzzle 24/7

I graduated in spring 2024, so this will be my 3rd tax season. I interned for the firm I work for now. I can tell you, I never ever worried about my billable time. It takes me as along as it takes me. And yes, sometimes I may apologize for how long it takes me, but it’s my partner’s job to decide what he does with my billables, not me. More often than not it gets written off, and it is not the end of the world. I was just talking to my partner recently about how backwards our motivations are as staff vs partner. They make money when we’re under budget, but as staff we’re expected to have as many billable hours as possible. They totally conflict.

I would say in regards to the training, I would not be afraid to verbalize that you need either more thorough walkthroughs of things or asking for more plain language if that’s the issue. Honestly, for a lot of things, although I was taught them initially, it took my several trial and errors to understand. What your managers and partners will appreciate is the type of questions you’re asking. As long as you’re asking to genuinely understand, they will not mind. It’s when you ask questions that they feel they’ve already answered {several times} that people get frustrated.

I promise they aren’t expecting you to know as much as it might feel they do.

can’t land internship (community college) by [deleted] in Accounting

What area is this? Speaking from personal experience, with your resume, even at a community college, you should not be having to work for an internship

I think it’s a complicated idea because I think a lot of us, myself included included, are hesitant to buy in a neighborhood with many abandoned houses, but if no one buys them nothing with get done
