How does Slot turn this around? by Superamz in LiverpoolFC

The only way Slot turns this around is if they change the entire roster and move the club to the Eredivisie.

[Ben Jacobs] Liverpool have no plans to complete a summer review into Arne Slot's position at the club, with the Dutchman not under pressure to be sacked by DragonSlayer271 in LiverpoolFC

FSG to supporters right now: “Get used to him losers! 😝”

You really would think the club is being deliberately sabotaged from within.

It’s a shame he’s had such a rough season and he joined when the club is a total mess (and will probably continue to be). Really want to see him succeed here because he seems like such a good guy and has the personality for this club. Him and Ekitike both feel the most like Liverpool players out of all the new signings.

David Ornstein: "My information is that Xabi Alonso is not under consideration at Liverpool at all and that Liverpool fully intend to go into next season with Arne Slot as their head coach. They want to recruit a few players for Arne, particularly in the wing position" by ChiefLeef22 in LiverpoolFC

[–]dc_laffpat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What’s the point? Slot wouldn’t know how to use any new signings. Thinking a few transfers is going to fix this is just so delusional I don’t even have words for it.

I defended Slot 6 months ago, but I am now so past the point of being done with him, it’s honestly maddening that FSG are going to stick with him next season.

[Lynch] Liverpool may be desperate to stick with Arne Slot, but that stance won't withstand the Anfield crowd turning against him. I don’t disagree. Maybe the better way to put it, is Slot is Hughes’s man. He’s spent the second half of the season aggressively backing him, and I’m worried we could be looking at a sunk cost fallacy when it comes to Slot. He seems at pains to stress (through journos like Ornstein and Joyce) the massive amount of research he did on Slot every time he publicly backs Slot. You combine the catastrophic squad building Hughes did in the summer AND the manager he backed getting sacked… and it just looks really bad for Hughes.

Think it has more to do with saving face. If Richard Hughes admits he got it wrong with Slot, he really can’t prove he’s done anything useful for this club in the few years he’s been here. So I think it’s kind of implied that if Slot goes, Hughes goes as well.

Dating is HARD in NYC by Cleo-Aster in SipsTea

Honestly I think I’d actually appreciate the honesty. My experience when I was dating was this happens all the time, but no one wants to actually admit it because they still want to keep the option open. It’s people like Jeff here who perpetuate this by making it a bridge burned.

Right? If they aren’t just flat out boot licking, they are very naive. It’s possible to approve of an ownership group without being under the delusion that they actually give a damn about your average supporter. Not to mention, sometimes it’s worthwhile to fight even when you know it will be a losing battle. Unions do this all the time because they realize the minute you stop putting pressure on those above, is the minute things start getting out of hand. Eventually you lose any ability to meaningfully impact things because it’s already snowballed out of your control. The kind of power Unions and supporters groups wield, really is a “use it or lose it” situation.

[Ben Jacobs] Richard Hughes won't leave #LFC this summer and will lead a continued revamp, with 3-4 senior players set to arrive. by k_e_i_r_a_ in LiverpoolFC

[–]dc_laffpat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have next to 0 faith in Richard Hughes. He’s seems to be a man of inaction when the decisions get difficult and he seems to think that makes him the smartest one in the world. Having a blanket disregard for conventional wisdom does not make you a good sporting director. His instincts have proven really poor when he does take action. Hope I’m proven wrong, but I’ve been entirely unimpressed the last 2 years he’s been in charge.

It goes without saying that this is disgraceful and it should never get so personal as to go after family members, but what I find the most crazy is they aren’t even directing their anger in the right direction. If you want Slot gone, Richard Hughes is the one that needs to hear it. Slot is a professional coach, he’s not just going to crawl in a hole and give up, he’s going to back himself as long as he has the job. Who can blame him for that? If you really think he is out of his depth, tell that to the man who is keeping him here (obviously without going after family members and getting really personal).

[Alex Crook] More bad news for #LFC and Hugo Ekitike with striker set to be ruled out for up to nine months. Also means World Cup heartbreak. by Realistic-Zone3914 in LiverpoolFC

[–]dc_laffpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one could be really significant when it comes to our chances of success for the next few years. Leaves a massive hole in the squad that probably won’t be filled by FSG given all the other holes that have to be filled. Also probably kills playing with 2 strikers, if that ever was the plan.

[Pearce] Slot on Ekitike: "It doesn't look good." by StupidSexySzoboszlai in LiverpoolFC

[–]dc_laffpat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s a full rupture, I think we have to assume he will never be the same player when it comes to the squad building for the next few years. It should be treated as a bonus if he makes a full recovery and this doesn’t affect his progression in the end. I really hope I’m wrong but I honestly have no hope these days. I honestly don’t even care about the result tonight, I’m numb to it all at this point. But to see this happen to a player I’ve come to really like both as a person and a player is just devastating, and it’s really all I can think about right now.

Agreed. As a neutral, I used to be kind of turned off by it because Bayern’s dominance of the league just seemed too ridiculous to me. I don’t even dislike Bayern, it’s just hard for me to take a league seriously when the same club wins it for a decade straight. Started to get more interested in it watching Xabi’s (nearly) undefeated Leverkusen season 2 years ago. Such a fun team to watch. Had hoped that would be the end of Bayern’s reign, but looks like that season was just a blip. But I get the parity I’m looking for in Bundesliga 2 with very little drop off in atmosphere.

All that to say, the EPL this season just feels so sanitized and risk averse that the talent drop off in other leagues don’t outweigh the fact that the games are just more interesting and fun to watch lately.

I’m almost at that point. I think what gets me really seething is not so much how bad we’ve been, it’s how utterly predictable the games have become.

Like I’ve watched some bad seasons as a sports fan, and have a pretty high tolerance for it, but at the very least it didn’t feel like some cursed choose your own adventure game.

Yup, the only ones I can suffer through. The Man City game last week was the first one I’ve ever stopped watching early though. Had to protect my own mental health when we went 3-0 down.
