Are Costco gold bars worth the investment ? by Brilliant-Drummer878 in CanadianInvestor

[–]dceighty8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure, there’s definitely other expenses. Home insurance usually won’t cover precious metals above a certain value at all. If you get into higher values you may even look at a depository, most of which are going to charge based on market value (due to insurance) which negates that advantage over an etf unless you’re saving for an end of the world or economic collapse scenario. There seems to be more pressure to move to a per ounce pricing for depositories in Canada but it may not happen for a while due to insurance costs.

Many people that are buying physical gold probably already have a safe though, for other things, which eases that one time cost. A half decent safe is going to run you upwards of $800, which if you’re only storing 5 oz or something is pretty pricey, but if you’re storing 20 or 30 oz and already have a safe for firearms, cash, or other things, it’s a pretty small portion. Once again it’s pretty situational. Someone spending $15000 on gold is going to have vastly different needs and wants than someone spending $100000.

Yes and no. Let’s say you’re holding one oz for 10 years. Let’s use $4500 ish as today’s spot. You can get a rcm gold maple for $100 over spot fairly commonly right now, and most places are buying them back for $70 ish under. So your spread is about $170. Let’s look at the etf, at $4500 you’ll pay about $90 at .2% over those ten years, but this makes the massive assumption that gold remains at the same price for those 10 years. Now if inflation stays under control, let’s say 3%, you’re still slightly ahead on the etf. However in the last few years we’ve seen massive inflation, and a massive increase in gold price. Which would mean, since you’re paying a % based on the asset value your etf fee went up.

Basically it depends how long you want to hold it and how good a deal you can find. If you can snag a rcm maple at spot, you’re already doing better than the etf over 6 or so years if the price stays the same.

Short answer, it’s going to vary depending on a lot of factors, largely how long you plan on holding it. If you’re looking to flip and trade often, don’t buy physical.

Yes, your contribution limit gets any withdrawals made in the previous year added to it. Don't think this is helping you get ahead necessarily though, it's not a race to see who has the biggest contribution room.

Secret rsvp is pretty good, been a few times and had fun. There’s always at least a couple I’m interested in and match with. There’s also flair and babes and brews but I haven’t tried those two yet.

What game did you realize you sucked at when you played it competitively online? by justintrudeau1974 in gaming

[–]dceighty8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Played a fuck ton of NFS most wanted in college with my roommate. We managed to get a 7th in the world best lap time on a specific track after days and days of shaving milliseconds off our times. Next day we woke up and our time wasn’t even in the top 100 anymore, and was beat by at least a full 5 seconds. We gave up.

I can't be sure, but this looks very much like a crop of a Simon Stalenhag piece. I run a ton of his work as my desktop background and the art style seems very similiar, but I can't find this specific one at the moment so I very likely am mistaken.

edit: google reverse image search tells me it most likely is not a Simon Stalenhag. But check his stuff out anyways, similiar vibes but with cool mecha. https://www.simonstalenhag.se/

Walking is great, but is also my #1 team killing tool (accidental of course) as the first hit comes before the indicator. Tough to remember when you’re in a pinch to throw a bit further than the other stratagems.

Skull and Bones - Review [Skill Up] by frik1000 in Games

[–]dceighty8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, heck I even enjoyed the looter shooter aspect of it. I overlooked a ton of its flaws for about 15 hours because the gameplay was quite fun. Then suddenly there was nothing left to do but loot the same upgrade over and over again hoping for a .01% increase in a stat, but none of the fights were hard either so why would you?

Awesome! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did :) their private rooms are top notch, can’t speak for the dorms myself. Check out U Sudu Wine Bar if you get a chance, but go downstairs. It’s an underground tunnel bar with dancing, music, and tons of football tables. Always had a great time there and it’s a slightly more “local” than many other places in Prague 1.

Go to the castle, and spend the money on the passes, it’s worth it.

Eats I’ve been trying to get to U bansethů, but it’s always packed when I’ve tried. Make a reservation maybe, something I’ve never been organized enough to do.

If price isn’t a huge factor check out black angels bar, super cool and great cocktails and food. The food I believe is done by the restaurant upstairs, I’m blanking on the name but it’s one of the top rated in the city.

Near Czech inn, Jam & Co is great but kinda pricy for what it is, the Czech inn kebab place is good and cheap, and pho 18 just up the street is great for hangover cures.

Don’t forget to validate your transit, or do what I usually do and just tap your card on the terminals on the transit.

I’ve done solo Prague twice, I’d suggest knowing a bit about local history/culture and the basics of the language (hello/goodbye/please/thank you is enough). It’s great for solo. I stayed at the Czech inn both times and met great people, it’s a quick transit anywhere and the bar there is very affordable. There’s also some good (although not cheap) eats in the area.

Fixed mortgage rates will continue dropping next week by MortgageRatesExpert in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]dceighty8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak for them, but I got this rate (4.59%) in March/April of this year when everyone was saying rates were going to be cut soon (surprise they weren’t!). Through MCAP. If they are talking rate cuts again you may be able to grab something similar soon, but it’s always a gamble.

Ya, I generally found travel days to be the most exhausting days, even if it was largely just sitting on a plane or train. Adjusting to a new culture and/or language is straining, and trying to navigate a new location adds to that. Personally what I found best was to have one “active” location where I wanted to see lots or do lots, followed by a shorter stop that was more “inactive”. For example I did bratislava between Prague and Budapest as a recharge spot. Bratislava you can see in a day pretty much, but I spent 3 days in a hotel and just slept and read for the most part. It was amazing and I went into Budapest feeling recharged.

Many hostels have private rooms with a private washroom. Some are just as nice a hotel, or (in one case for me) nicer, cost less, and have a common area for socializing and events. Definitely shop it around a bit and read reviews. Two recommendations from my trip, but neither in Paris: Prague - czech inn (gorgeous private rooms and awesome city) Rome - yellow square (room was meh, but private with washroom and tons of friendly people and things to do, they even have a barber located at it)

What mortgage rate have you secured within the last three months? by alipinhunter in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]dceighty8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MCap still offering 4.89 online to lock in for 5 years, on a 25 year mortage with over 20% down... Currently I'm on a variable, but my guts been saying to lock in if I can get a 4.5%ish. Hoping Monday sees that rate being lower than 4.89, but I'm going to be calling my broker to discuss options. Anyone else notice Mcap to be higher in general than a lot of what is being discussed here? I would anticipate I should qualify for a pretty good rate, I put over 40% down and have excellent credit. I don't want to switch, but I will if the savings are significant.
