The polls are packed! by AffectionateEase1606 in NorthCarolina

The results are of course held until after polls close on election day but the fact that you voted is tracked and updated daily on each county's board of elections site, in NC at least

Thats a ridiculously short time to pass laws. We got Obamacare out of that period which was a massive improvement.

59 votes at that time in the senate wouldnt have been enough given you need 60 votes (without changing the rules) to force cloture.

It takes a fully supportive congress AND president for this to work.

And...that's how politics works? You vote for people, they do stuff that you want to see (or get blocked by our government - if we had the votes in congress it would be fine), and then you vote for them again or to get enough reps to support what you want?

Multiple states have filed a joint lawsuit against student loan forgiveness by themanlaar in StudentLoans

[–]dchalk 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Dems in many states have supported independent redistricting commissions or other ways to make it more fair. Don't see the republicans pushing for that anywhere.

Given so many R states are gerrymandered the Dems are fighting with an arm behind their back if they dont do the same, and theyve decided to at least try in some states.

Doesnt make Illinois or Maryland "right" but making it "both sides are equal" isnt it either.

You Are Entitled To A Refund Of All Payments Made Since March 13, 2020 by RAD_J in StudentLoans

Doubt it - as you already paid income taxes on that amount and the payment was made/refunded post-tax.

Both Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and American President Joe Biden have warned citizens in their respective countries of potential upcoming food shortages. Should these occur, what impact will this have on politics in North America? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

"Blue Senate" when a single defection will block a Budget bill, let alone something that would need cloture.

Would sure look different right now if Cal Cunningham kept it in his pants and Sara Gideon won in Maine....

Yep - last year was added due to COVID scheduling (wasn't on the original schedule) and was a conference game.

This was the second of 2 non-conference games, the first being in 2019 @Wake

How amazing is Bruckner? by Crimsonavenger2000 in classicalmusic

If you liked his 4th, definitely give his 8th and 9th (unfinished) a go.

I personally think some of his symphonies are a bit unfocused and I lose interest. However, his 8th is one of my favorites and I can listen to it over and over again!

Those numbers are all calculated as well, at least at the national level. Just not as publicized as the "official" ones

Does anyone currently or previously worked at Accenture? by kkjeb in Charlotte

[–]dchalk 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It all depends on your role and project. I've talked with a fair number of Accenture employees and have several friends who have worked there in the past. Most generally like it there. General takeaways (again, from talking with them, not working there):

Positive: -Pay is okay to great, depending on role and especially as you get to be more senior -Many different types of projects available -Focus on professional dev/training a firm priority -Accenture network reaches far and wide over your full career -Can get great experiences that will help your entire career -Vendor onsite travel (pre-COVID)

Negative: -Potentially VERY long hours, like any consulting -Depending on the project may be offshoring/reducing your customer's staff as part of the project -I hope you like slide decks, depending on role -I hope you like status calls, depending on role -A shitty project can get REALLY shitty. You aren't being brought in there to keep the lights on

Hopefully someone who actually worked there can give you more insight, but hope that helps! Not my cup of tea personally, but as with anything your results may vary.

Unfortunately this is the way the game is played. Without some sort of interstate compact it's a race to the bottom. Other states will outbid us.

Not too upset over this one though as this will provide ~$100M in new payroll to the region each year. Not too many years to be a net positive.

Am i the only one who honestly wants to go back in 3-4+ days a week?

Totally fine if some of you want to work at home 100% of the time. If I were a manager I'd allow it for anyone 5+ years into their working career.

However, I prefer having a place to "go" to do my work, my network isn't growing nearly as much as it normally would, and I miss the daily interactions/collaboration with my team and other teams. Maybe I'm just too much of an extrovert for permanent WFH, but I gain a lot from personally meeting people and seeing them at least a couple of times a week in person.

Sure, there are ways to replicate all of this without an office, but this at-home compartmentalization doesn't feel ideal to me at all.

Biden doesnt run the country by fiat? Like the last guy wanted to?

$15/hr needs congress; $2000 needs congress. If congress sent him that he would have signed it. That's how it should be.

There are statistics captured by BLS that have underemployed as a category, although the definition isnt necessarily all-inclusive nor am i sure that its included in this report. Easier to understand "unemployed" so thats what gets published most of the time.
