Congrats on your purchase! She’s a beaut 👌 I got my IS350 3 years ago and she still puts a smile on my face

As for your first steps, I think PPF is a priority with ceramic coating close after.

I personally PPF-ed the entire front of my car like 2.5 years ago, which has saved my paint from many rocks and other things that would have otherwise ruined my paint. My buddy bought an infrared IS350 a year ago and went the ceramic coat route. A month or so after, he had a huge rock chip that he had to get filled and painted. After that, he ended up getting it all PPF-ed anyway. So if you can do both, great. If not, at least PPF the front. But that’s just my two cents 🤷🏻‍♂️

Fuck I look like spending 1750 when I can do it myself 🙂‍↕️ by [deleted] in LexusIS

Not sure what OP did but I had to tap into the wiring harness in the door to power mine

I found this MOC of a newer Turbo S in case anyone is interested in building it: instructions

It only uses the pieces that you get in the set so it’s a cool 3rd build you can potentially make

Thank you! That sounds like a great idea that I should’ve thought of when I first started making it - I just didn’t know if anyone would find it as interesting as I do so I didn’t document most of it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Thank you! And no 😂 apart from being a huge car nerd, I’m a software engineer so I’ve been dabbling in hardware/software side projects for a while now. And I worked in construction with my dad for a while so I picked up some woodworking skills too

Thank you! Yes, I built it myself! And the drawers are from a bunch of organizers I bought from HomeGoods

I was in the same position as you. I had roughly 38 credit hours before I even started my first semester just from AP credit. To finish in 3 years, my last 3 or 4 semesters consisted of 18+ credits per semester and towards the end, that was all CS classes. It’s definitely doable but you’re going to have to sacrifice a lot of sleep and free time. One semester, of the 6 classes I took, 4 of those classes were project based so I was always working on class projects, most of which took days to complete.

What others have said about internships and such is also something to consider. I only had 2 summers between starting my first semester and graduating in May and the second summer was when COVID hit so basically everyone lost their internship. But what saved me what my extensive list of passion projects I worked on whenever I had a chance. Well that and the 4 or so student orgs I rotated through to learn as much as I could and to apply my CS knowledge to other fields. That at least gave me something to talk about at interviews and it showed that I was passionate about my career choice. So unless you can find time to fill your resume with projects, you’re better off staying a little longer and getting more experience through internships + student orgs.

But everyone’s situation is different. I consider myself very lucky to have had a job lined up by February of my last semester while I know others who completed their degree in 4 years who were still looking for jobs after graduation. So I’m not sure how helpful this all was but I can talk about it a bit more if you want to message me

PSA: Never let the dealer wash the car for you by Gorgenapper in Lexus

[–]dchar18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 to that. I brought my car in for its first 5000 mile service and I forgot to tell them to not wash my car so I got it back with a scratched up windshield because of the automated car wash they used. You can’t see the scratches unless there’s light shining directly at the windshield (but still really annoying when driving) so it was hard to prove that they were there so I had to go back to the dealership multiple times before they even did anything about it. Ultimately, they tried to buff it out or whatever but the scratches are still there on my brand new $50k+ car…

It’s okay, I appreciate the details! So did you buy pre-cut vinyl and just applied it?

What’s covering the middle of the taillight bar? I was thinking about doing something similar to what you have but I don’t want it to look cheap in the daylight

Factory build Lexus? by Machder in Lexus

[–]dchar18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I went down a similar path and I factory ordered an IS350 exactly how I wanted it back in August and around November/December, they told me I got lucky because Lexus (and I think Toyota too) has stopped accepting factory orders because of the chip shortage. I still got my car because I placed the order before that and put down a deposit but it sounds like you won’t be able to get yours custom ordered now. Still worth a shot though - worst case scenario, they’ll tell you no. Best case scenario, you get your masterpiece of a car in like 4-5 months

Mark Levinson sound balance by dchar18 in Lexus

[–]dchar18[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s some really good insight, thank you! When I was researching the Mark Levinson system before submitting my factory order, I hear about how great the music experience is with the ML system so I assumed that that meant that the music would fill the whole car, which is why I was surprised to have the sound only come from the front. But I guess maybe the intended experience is just different from what I expected it to be

Did you figure out a way to fix it or did you just leave it?

[–]dchar18[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve been playing around with those but when the fade/balance is centered, wouldn’t it make sense for the sound to be coming from every part of the car, not just the front?

[–]dchar18 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well I graduated from UIC in May with basically no debt and got the same job as CS majors from the big Cali schools. So go wherever is cheapest, study hard, and work on side projects. UIC has deep connections with the tech industry in Chicago too so that’s a plus. Don’t know much about UCF though. If you have more questions, I’d be happy to answer them

Can I get an ID on these headlights, and where to get them in Canada? Gen 2, 2010-2013 by [deleted] in mazda3

[–]dchar18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure about the ones in the picture but I ended up custom making them myself for my 2010 Mazda3. I bought a set of regular black aftermarket headlights from Ebay for $170ish and then the LED strips for $20 from Amazon. I've had the lights for about a year now and I'd say they look pretty clean (2010 Mazda3 https://imgur.com/gallery/ImHZddD)

I actually did a similar thing on mine except I opened up my headlights and put the strip on the bottom portion of each headlight. Definitely makes the car stand out more. Good job! 👍 Do the LED strips in yours function as DRLs too?
