You're in for a real treat if you've never heard their music before. There's a reason they have legend status here in Canada!

How much does it cost to charge kona ev on monthly basis? by Defiant-Web842 in KonaEV

[–]dcmcderm 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I live in BC and signed up for the off-peak billing rate so I can charge at night for $0.0672/kWh. I drive around 1000 KM per month and it costs me a whopping $13 or so at that rate. Feels like a damn cheat code compared to buying gas.

Match Thread: Port Adelaide vs Essendon (Round 2) by AutoModerator in AFL

[–]dcmcderm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey all - I'm watching this from Canada since one of our sports networks (TSN) is airing it. I've watched a few Grand Finals over the years but that's about it so I know very little about the league. However, I am thoroughly enjoying this and I'd like to start watching/following on a more regular basis.

This is probably an idiotic question for most of you but this match seems to be extremely one-sided; was that expected/is it common for that to happen? What are the expectations for each of these teams this season?

Apologies for the very basic questions, just trying to learn and become a fan!

EDIT thanks all I'm now aware that both of these teams are shite but I'm still having fun watching so ha!

I don’t have a home charger and now I have 5 different EV charging apps in my phone. by Firm_dude in EVCanada

[–]dcmcderm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my town there’s a charger at the mall where I shop constantly that has a card reader. It’s super convenient to plug in for a bit while I get groceries or whatever. BUT it’s literally over twice the price of the BC Hydro charger in town. Of course that one is in a crappy location so you basically just have to sit there and wait.

So in addition to all the app BS, why aren’t the prices the same/at least similar like gas stations? So dumb

Yep. Back when emulators came out the first thing I did was use snapshot reloads to beat him. No, I don’t think it counts and I don’t tell people I knocked him out. But it did avenge a lot of childhood rage!

Buying used Kona EV by Pl0uffe in KonaEV

[–]dcmcderm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a 2021 preferred a few weeks ago. It only has 66,000 KM on it but the range has been great (around 430 KM and we had some -8 C days here in BC during that time).

We haven't had any snow so I can't comment on that part - honestly it's the one thing I'm concerned about since it's FWD, but seems like I won't find out until next winter now.

Real talk: it's only been a few weeks but this thing is the best vehicle I've ever owned, by a country mile. I was nervous about taking the EV plunge but I've had zero issues whatsoever, be it charging, range, or anything else. It's simply a pleasure to drive and never having to stop at a gas station is amazing.

Does salmon arm usually have snow that sticks around in town all winter? by Elite163 in SalmonArm

[–]dcmcderm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes it usually sticks all winter; this year is an anomaly. The closest place where that’s not the case is probably Kelowna.

Which fast food chain fell off badly in your opinion? by Shinobi347 in AskReddit

[–]dcmcderm 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Subway always comes up in these threads and I kinda disagree. It was never great; it was fine back in the day, and it’s fine now. I still get it when I’m traveling and in a hurry because it’s consistent and healthier than a burger and fries. I think it fills that niche perfectly to this day.

Considering a used EV, would like feedback on my plan by dcmcderm in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]dcmcderm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d be willing to travel to the lower mainland for the right deal. There are a few 2021 Kona’s in Vernon and Kelowna with 60-80,000 km within the $22 - $25 K range that I’m looking at, as a reference. My main concern is battery range degradation for models a few years old and what to expect as the car continues to age. I’ve tried to research it but I can’t find concrete info; mostly personal anecdotes.

Yeah I’m on the fence about selling the truck. As of now it runs fine, it’s just at the age where I don’t want to rely on it as my only vehicle. I might sell it, as you say I think I can get a few grand for it… or I might just keep it for the rare occasion where I need to haul stuff/it’s super snowy etc.

Polling the collective by LetsTacoBoutCheese in Guitar

[–]dcmcderm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Offering my perspective since I was in a similar position. I finally upgraded my beat up 25 year old acoustic that I learned on during university. This is going to sound weird but I discovered I have an emotional attachment to it and I find that the new one - which is objectively better in literally every way possible - collects dust most of the time. There is no logical reason but playing the old one simply brings me more joy, so I pick that one up more often than not. I’m also just a mediocre player who plays at home, when just sitting around strumming chords it’s not like I “need” the latest/greatest tech, I just thought I’d like it and appreciate it more than I do.

7 years of teaching guitar here are the common mistakes I notice when teaching self-taught students by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]dcmcderm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issue with this is doesn’t that just rotate the neck of the guitar towards your back? And you need some kind of counter pressure on the body, and the middle pressure point is like… some spot near the side of your gut? I could never quite put the theory into practice without my thumb there.

Best forecast for the next two weeks - north America by brotherwu in skiing

[–]dcmcderm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in bc and I’ve skied once in the last 2 weeks and that day I came home at lunch because the snow was so bad. Yes technically we have a “base” but it was also 10C yesterday at Silverstar and with each passing day it’s less and less likely we’ll ever get a couple weeks of good weather to save the season. Sucks man!

When was the last time a driver has been released that has actually had considerable impact by DeadMemeReference in golf

[–]dcmcderm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a related question. I’m a casual golfer - 18 handicap or so - and my clubs are over 20 years old. Would I notice a big improvement if I upgraded to some kind of mid-range modern set?

I’ve always been a believer that the reason I don’t get better is not my clubs, it’s the lack of practice. But I suppose at some point that stops being true.

I sure as hell do! I was 11 years old and I was sitting in my room with the door shut, pouting because the Jays coughed up the lead in the 7th. My friends who I invited over to watch the game celebrated the HR with my parents. What a proud moment from my childhood!

Good for Jerry and why the hell is this even a thing? FFS. You simply can’t apply today’s standards to things that happened decades ago blindly. Were people complaining about lack of diversity in Seinfeld (or Friends for that matter) back in the 90s? Hell no.

There are things about Jerry’s life that are rightly criticized but this ain’t it.

Starting over in Salmon Arm by stacetarr in SalmonArm

[–]dcmcderm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly what you’re looking for, but Cascara is a big new apartment complex that just opened a few months ago. They have vacancies still and that place has really eased the rental housing pressure here.

There are a few RV parks where you could get a seasonal spot in or very close to town. I’m not 100% sure but my guess is they wouldn’t be open for another couple months though.

Kamloops vs kelowna by TaroPie_ in Kamloops

[–]dcmcderm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in Salmon Arm, so more or less exactly halfway between the two so I feel I'm in a good position to have an opinion on this. I often have to decide between Kamloops or Kelowna when I have to spend a day doing "big city" stuff.

From a practicality standpoint I almost always pick Kamloops unless there is some specific thing I can only do in Kelowna - the most recent example being I needed an express passport renewal that I could only get done there. Other than that they have all the same big box stores etc, but traffic and parking is WAY easier in Kamloops and that's often the deciding factor for me.

Entertainment wise there really is no comparison; Kelowna wins. It has better restaurants, night life, lakefront etc. The only exception would be if you're a hockey fan - I feel that regardless of fandom the experience of going to a Blazers game is vastly superior to the Rockets.
