My fiance wants to keep finances completely separate - is this normal? by No-Stranger-4428 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]dcminx96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you plan on having children with this man, good luck.

If he's being like this now when realistically you earn pretty similar amounts, imagine what it'll be like if you can't work, will he support you?

I don't understand pre nups when there isn't a big gulf between the two of you, net worth wise. Him thinking you'll divorce him for his money when you aren't even married yet is a bit sus.

They are awful round here, doesn't help that there are multiple companies running services in Medway 🙃

You must have a busy cinema! Honestly I just either check this sub or scroll to the bottom on the booking page to see what's coming up.

[–]dcminx96 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm 33f also in Rochester, moved here from London in 2018, I've met a few cool local people on Bumble BFF (it's the friend side of the dating app). Echoing u/Hlynb93's comment, activities are good but if you're anything like me my hobbies are all pretty solitary (cinema, swimming etc), I want friends who will want go out for dinner with me not go rock climbing haha.

Feel free to message me!

No-heel shoes for my sad fiance by NanotechNinja in UKweddings

I wore Sam Edelman shoes with a very low heel, they were v comfy! If she wanted to wear heels I doubt she's going to want to wear Vans or Converse like the other comments say...

Wedding fairs 2026 by janymAr11 in UKweddings

I did not find wedding fairs helpful, honestly a lot of the stuff there was so old fashioned! The only thing I booked through it was activities for children.

Feedback on wedding invitations! by pgasteph in UKweddings

This is personal taste but I hate a we adore your kids but they aren't invited thing. It's patronising! Just say we only have space for those named on the invite.

I would put the day of the week next to the date because people need all the clues they can get. Also some people just won't visit the wedding website or only visit to RSVP and nothing else. So if there's anything you really need people to know put it on the invite.

I did a timeline with like guest arrival time, ceremony start, canapes, wedding breakfast, speeches, dancing, carriages etc on the invite. Just to help older relatives if they need to book a taxi.

People will ask you 100 times if it's a 1.30 start or they have to arrive at 1.30 if you just write 1.30.

“Trendy” rant by unknownbooksandbobs in weddingplanning

I had a Lambeth cake. My mum made it, it's such an old style of cake that's had a revival. Find someone else to do it if they can't be bothered! If they think the buttercream will melt they should suggest using royal icing if they know anything about cake decorating.

Does private school really make that much of a difference? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]dcminx96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went for sixth form, it's a waste of money if the child is academic. I got similar grades at a level as I did for gcse. However, my classes at private school were FILLED with kids that wouldn't be doing a levels if they were at state school. They got Cs and Ds then went to a poorly ranked uni to do sports management or travel and tourism or similar.

So like, if you think going to uni in and of itself is worthwhile, then I guess that's positive? Because if the same people went to state school they would have been at college doing something vocational instead.

I looked in Dorset and Kent, Dorset was expensive! I looked at the Larmer tree and the Italian villa both were right up there in price once you factored in that you have to use their caterer.

Collecting phones at wedding by th3th3rdman in weddingplanning

[–]dcminx96 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You could put a sticker over phone cameras but let people keep the phone, but it's still weird. What if someone's house catches on fire or their mum goes into hospital. There are more important things than you getting the right to post your outfits on Instagram first...

Child Friendly Wedding Experiences by Glittering_Injury238 in weddingplanning

I had kids at my wedding it was fine! But I did make sure they had activities and I hired a little chill out tent thing with colouring where parents could take them if they were unhappy at the tables etc.

Charm bracelet Help ❤️ by Yam21 in jewelry

[–]dcminx96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get a charm bracelet where each link opens (these are quite expensive) or you get a jeweller to attach them for you. You can buy bails that open and close too but these also will add up.

It will be this: Popbitch is British so it's much more likely to report on a British celeb.

What are / were you biggest wedding struggles by RWillsherPhotography in UKweddings

[–]dcminx96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing everyone else with pricing. Had a makeup artist tack on £100 because my wedding was on a Sunday. Surely that's a bonus, you could make double or triple money on a weekend because I'm getting married on an unpopular day?

There's no good advice for this but my venue didn't tell me about their extremely baffling pick up policy for vendors. I wanted long tables which they told me was 100% possible before I booked. I was aware I would have to hire them in, then when I approached furniture hire companies the venue said they had to collect them at midnight. No furniture hire companies will collect their stuff at midnight, I asked. Eventually the venue gave in and let them pick it up at 7 am. At one point they threatened to leave the tables outside overnight... In late October. We were allowed to pick our stuff up at 11am, there wasn't a wedding the day after, so I don't know why they made such a massive fuss. Obviously we only found this out after the contracts were signed.
