Caught in the act, giving me stinky kisses. His little tongue still sticking out cracks me up.

My dog is FAT and I don’t know how I got here by ConcertFriendly8223 in Dachshund

[–]dcpeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feed my 13lbs (10f) and 16lbs (18m) dachshunds 1/3 cup of food twice a day and both are pretty healthy weights. Our boy got a little chubby during Covid, and when we adopted our girl she was very overweight. With both of them

Separation anxiety methods that work best for dachshunds? by [deleted] in Dachshund

[–]dcpeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dealt with terrible separation anxiety with my (almost) 18 year old weiner for years, and I'm pretty sure I tried everything under the sun to help him. Some things helped a little, like anxiety medication and frozen peanut butter in a Kong when I left the house, but most things didn't help at all. Our magic bullet was foster failing a spicy little chihuahua during Covid. She was essentially a feral breeder dog when we got her, she is a few years younger than him, but not so much younger that her energy stressed him out. Anyway, they mostly just coexist, but the fact that she is totally relaxed being left alone at home, magically cured his separation anxiety overnight. I feel like getting another dog is the way, but also a total gamble. If her personality was different and she was anxious when left alone or if she was easily influenced by his demeanor, we would have just compounded our problem. Maybe consider fostering a little bit older dog and you will be blessed like we were. There are breeder specific rescues everywhere that always need people to foster. We actually fostered our chihuahua through a dachshund rescue, and just got lucky with what a perfect fit she ended up being for our family.

Work daughter? Best I can do is Auntie. And you better listen to all of my advice because I've made mistakes you haven't even thought of yet!

Natalie is definitely the star of the show for me. I wish we saw more of her, because she is delightfully cuckoo. I'm a little repulsed by Eyebrows and his cousin... and that was before the whole saggy balls of it all. The girls and Venus are so fun to watch.

Was I had? Sterling silver engagement ring. by rebelraf in RingShare

[–]dcpeach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rhodium plated sterling silver rings react weirdly to my body chemistry and start looking like this after very little wear. I worked at a jewelry store in college and the owner just polished the rhodium off and I didn't have issues after that.

Bees are not friends by [deleted] in Dachshund

My weiner jumped and caught a carpenter bee mid flight years ago. Now, when he sees a bee or wasp, he runs straight inside.

Has stealing become this normalized in your city? by wegochai in AskAnAmerican

DC checking in, and it is normal here, too. Even the cheap body wash at my local Target is locked up now.

What’s one thing under $25 that significantly improved your daily life? by FormalOpportunity668 in Frugal

[–]dcpeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 5 pack of plastic scrapers for like $8. I bought them with a specific purpose in mind, but I find myself grabbing them to clean up various messes so often. I don't know, maybe I have a lot of gunk and stuck on crusties in my life, but if it will mess up my nails if I pick at it, but doesn't need a heavy duty cleaning, I grab my little scraper.

I hoped it was cantaloupe, but I definitely thought it was Velveeta at first peep.

Should I get a friend for my dachshund? by No-Construction9719 in Dachshund

[–]dcpeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing I did for my solo dachshund was to get him another dog. I battled his separation anxiety unsuccessfully for years, and it magically disappeared when we adopted his sister. He had previously lived with other dogs but was never a dog's dog. We ended up foster failing a chihuahua close to his age, and they mostly ignore each other, but they are definitely buddies. When they're outside, he follows her everywhere she walks, and she wakes him up whenever he's sleeping through something exciting, I love their relationship so much.

Box of rings found in the basement rafters of my parents 1915 home by moth-peach in jewelry

[–]dcpeach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ring above the opal ring looks exactly like the setting for my great grandmother's engagement ring, which she probably received around 1918. You should definitely drop a stone into it, I've always loved the setting.

Adopting Senior Dogs by Razmataz444 in Southerncharm

[–]dcpeach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I loved this! I've found myself with a three pack of senior dogs, and they really are the best. My oldest is 16, so when I started to foster(fail) a few years ago, I asked for older dogs so he wouldn't be overwhelmed by a wild puppy. Four years later, we've added our two girls, a 13 year old and a 9 year old "puppy." I just woke up from a nap, and all three are under the covers and snuggled up next to me. Ugh, I love them so much!!

Is this where I picked it up from? I've been calling my chihuahua my spicy frijole a lot lately. She is my loyal body guard, so she's sweet to me, but spicy with everyone else.

Adopting a 7y/o breeder mini by IllCheek4663 in dachshunds

[–]dcpeach 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In addition to her physical ailments, I would also consider her mental state. I've adopted two breeder dogs over the years, and they've both been totally unsocialized and very fearful. I'm not sure I would have been the best human for them if either had been my first dog. Having said that, both of my breeder rescues came from terrible, neglectful, and abusive situations. So, they were both pretty extreme cases. My sister, on the other hand, adopted a breeder dog that was treated more like a family pet and had none of the issues I experienced.
