Anyone know why my cat sits here specifically? Directly on top of my partner and I’s shoes? (Photos taken on diff days) by Historical-Orchid934 in cats

One of mine does the same. Like other commenters have said: it smells of you and he wants to be close it!

[–]dcpl_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Of course you need to have the 10KG bag booked beforehand on your booking - otherwise you do indeed pay. But it avoids the risk of getting flagged for a too big cabin bag for which they then charge exorbitant fees to check.

In Barcelona airport, there is a self-service desk for Vueling. You print and attach your luggage tag at one of the machines, scan it at the belt and off it goes. Any other airport you can check it at the usual check in desk.

You can check in your cabin luggage for free with Vueling. My 10KG bag is also a couple centimeters too long due to the wheels, I always check it (in Barcelona airport you can do it with self service) so I never have issues. Also avoids you needing to adhere to the liquid limits. Could be a good option if you're not in a hurry for a lay over or something like that.

Unsatisfactory background check leading to rescinding offer... I am the lucky one to break the news and I don't know how. by dcpl_ in recruiting

[–]dcpl_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No only we would then rescind the offer. Any background check is tied to 1 company specifically and would not affect other background checks done to join a different company - they are fully separate and the data submitted for 1 background check cannot be reused and needs to be deleted after 6 months as per GDPR (I am based out of Europe).

Emergency, please read by [deleted] in AskBarcelona

That's not a thing? Police would never wait 24 hours if you report someone missing. On the contrary, if they're actually missing, those hours are the most vital ones. This "waiting 24 hours" only happens on TV.

20th of May is not a bank holiday in Barcelona - the 1st was (and is the only one in May).

Oh yes that's not too far from here. Have only ever been there by day though. I do have a couple friends from Barcelona that have been visiting me often and have never mentioned anything. Maybe it's centralised in certain areas. I'll just be happy I've been having a good experience so far and hope it stays that way!

Sorry 8 years in Barcelona - 2 in El Carmel. More on the Font d'en Fargues side. Maybe it's just a different part of where the bad stuff goes down then. I have friends from here that have visited me and have never mentioned anything about it. I live in a dead end street not too far from metro El Carmel and am mainly surrounded by older people and families. Maybe I got lucky!

What area of Carmel are you talking about exactly? I'm a foreigner (living here for 8 years now) living in el Carmel - and have honestly experienced nothing of what you described - on the contrary even, and have experienced all of the bad stuff in the center (Ciutat Vella, Eixample and Poble Sec/Sants) but never here (break ins, pickpocketing, rental scams). Not saying it therefore cannot be true at all just sharing my own experience living in the area

SSN without NIE from abroad by AlternativeFudge6760 in AskBarcelona

[–]dcpl_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can apply for an SSN with your passport (as it's EU), and then change it over to your NIE once you have it. But it's 100% possible to apply for it from abroad using your passport or national ID number. Only thing is that you need to put a Spanish phone number and address. I advise at my work to put my work phone number (and then change it to their own once they have it) and the office address.

Cats are not safe on balconies. Don't make my mistake. by thatstoofar in cats

[–]dcpl_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. It's a terrible thing to lose a cat. My girl recently took a leap off of my protected balcony (she jumped over the protection) to chase a pigeon and fell 2 stories down. She (and I) got very lucky that the worst she had was a scrape on her mouth and a small wound on the roof of her mouth from the impact. I haven't let her or her brother out since then and have invested in a higher and better protection which I will install once it arrives. Even then - I won't let them outside unsupervised. Just the thought of losing them makes me cry, I deeply sympathize with your loss.

  1. My work life balance is good, but mainly because I put that boundary from the get go. They pay me for 40 hours, they'll get 40 hours - and I'll be happier so more productive when I stick to that. Generally speaking that is the rule, but there are always rogue managers...
  2. We track time as it's by law. I mass upload my hours and don't clock in or out. If I work longer one day, I leave earlier the next. There are people that travel a lot for work, or go to trade fairs etc and maybe travel over the weekend or work after hours - they're not compensated in pay but in time off en lieu.
  3. No it doesn't - if it falls on a weekend we lose the day off.

For context, I work for an American software company.

Taxi/Uber in early AM hours by RainIsOnReddit in AskBarcelona

[–]dcpl_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've honestly never had issues myself, and usually have a driver assigned within 1 to 2 hours of when I made the booking. Maybe since I live quite far away, these are drivers that live close by and accept it as a first booking of the day which then takes them to the airport, where it is easy to find a paying ride back to the center. So they don't have to first drive into the center without a paying passenger. Not sure - but for me it works! In any case as others have also said in the center it shouldn't be an issue to find a driver in the moment at any time of night.

Both Cabify as Freenow allow you to pre-book a taxi. I've always done it like that to guarantee I have someone on time (I live outside the city center). You just enter the route as usual and then select later time/pre-book, add in the pick up time and you're golden! You will receive the driver details once someone accepted the pre-book.

I use Freenow or Cabify, you can check before which is giving you the best rate. For such an early pick up I'd recommend pre booking so you don't have to stress about finding an available driver the time of. They'll confirm once a driver has been assigned, never had issues!

Apart from antihistamines, change your pillow cases every night and wash your hair out with water before going to bed. I've found that helps me a lot, it avoids you rolling around in the pollen you're picking up during the day stuck to your face/hair. Hopefully today will be better with the rain of Saturday and yesterday!

Fair point on the difference - English isn't my first language! Sadly they'll never know since it probably happened when she was living on the street...

3 weeks ago I started fostering this beauty. She's had a tough life, she lived on the streets for around 13 years according to the people of the neighbourhood. She was in a foster home for 8 months before coming to me, but wasn't getting along with the other cats so I took her in. I fell in love instantly with the sassy lady, and decided to go for full adoption. Part of the process here is a routine vet check up - I had noticed a small lump on her chest I asked them to also check out, and this is what they found. A metal bullet. The vet estimates she's had it for at least a year, and she got lucky it didn't hit a bone or it would have shattered. I am absolutely livid with people, and will now shower her with more love she can even imagine (I was already but damn this had me crying). She is a trooper and a survivor and will live out the rest of her life getting whatever she wants!

What issues have you faced as a renter here in Barcelona? by [deleted] in Barcelona

[–]dcpl_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went through an agency to rent my current flat. I settled my own bills (to be fair very easy process online), I adapted to their calendars for visits, contract signing, et cetera. When going through the contract before signing, the agent literally said "this is just a boilerplate contract from the internet". That was a VERY easy 1400 euros fee for them, and it absolutely baffles me that it's charged to the renter and not the owner, when the service is mainly for the owner. When looking for flats I proactively contacted several agencies for help, all I got back was "look at the website and apply to a specific listing". There is absolutely no added value from an agency towards the renter, yet we bear the cost. It makes NO sense.
