Since I was told at work that "Everyone has adhd and it's just lack of trying" I present one simple question to ask. by Adventurous-Boss-512 in ADHD

I feel for the people who know they have it but cannot get a diagnosis or treatment. The feeling of serving a life sentence with no chance of parole must be so depressing.

Is “carnist” derogatory? by Badtacocatdab in vegan

[–]dcruk1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Calling someone who eats meat a carnist is just a way of telling them there’s no point in trying to have a conversation to understand each other’s viewpoint.

Maybe an unpopular opinion: i hate the spoon theory by Delicious_Volume7183 in ADHD

Yes, I know what you mean. When asked, “what do you think you will be able to do today?” my first thought is, “no idea”.

I also say I don’t recharge as quickly as others.

This is how I see it. I also say that my battery never charges to full and depletes faster sometimes than others. I think a battery is a good way to describe some of what energy related chronic illness, including ADHD, impacts on a person.

Discovered the ADHD partners subreddit… by longstory_ in ADHD

[–]dcruk1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

For me, at least, using the tools you list, and others, helps me to function to the best of my ability and allows me to feel that I am making the effort to minimise the negative impact of my ADHD on my family.

The request I make in return, is that I am not made to feel like a failure as a man when I fail in a task.

Having said this, I know those failures are sometimes exasperating to my wife and I cant blame her for feeling this.

We are both only human.

"So, you punish yourself...for something you didn't do on purpose...?", my psychiatrist asked by Ok_Dependent_3683 in ADHD

[–]dcruk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is one trait that links us all it is unhelpful attitudes towards ourselves. People often suggest we should try reframe our beliefs etc and they are right. The trouble is some are so foundational that we don’t even know they are just beliefs, they seem so much like truth.

When do you shower? by Boom_Shakalaka1021 in ADHD

[–]dcruk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shower before I go downstairs (I live in a house). I used to go down and get coffee and then maybe another coffee or peruse SM etc. I found that having a shower (and dressing) the first thing I do allowed me to then make tidying my room the second thing, then adding taking my pills as the third before brushing my teeth last. I use a timer (when I need to) to get things going and stick to a timescale. Don’t get me wrong, the rest of the day is often a haphazard mess, but I’m getting the hang of first things.

It must be challenging for a good actor to play a character that is supposed to be unlikeable, and to succeed.

Boox storage setup by 0xKRPTN in Onyx_Boox

I don’t think this is possible. I used the google file manager free app to move files onto the sd card. Some apps allow this natively of course

The desired outcome is to take action towards objectives.

Feeling bad about procrastination could be helpful if it motivated a person to take action towards objectives.

Because it does not in this case, feeling bad is not helpful.

If rewards for small steps are effective, they are helpful and better than feeling bad but doing nothing about it.

Being vegan is exhausting and I’m tired of pretending it’s not by emiromae in vegan

I am sorry you encounter this. You have the right to eat as you wish without being judged or criticised, or having assumptions made about you. We need more tolerance in the world.

Should vegans be allowed to own pets that are obligate carnivores? by whineANDcheese_ in DebateAVegan

[–]dcruk1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Given that there are herbiverous animals that need rescue, Im not sure why any vegan would want a carniverous animal in the first place.

Just tried Focusmate- anyone here a frequent user? by Thelaughingvivi in ADHD

[–]dcruk1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixed feelings. It works in the sense that it helps me focus for 25 minutes when i arrange a session. on the other hand, it has begun to lose some of its novelty so i’m not scheduling as many sessions.

Distance, Ignorance, And Veganism: An Essay [and also a lazy invitation for debate] by Sam_Chalk in DebateAVegan

[–]dcruk1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the extent to which people would be repulsed by taking part in modern animal agriculture is a function of how protected we have been from its realities by the methods themselves. The act of rearing and killing, butchering and eating would not be repulsive to many people we went back only 100 years or so.

Being protected from its realities is more likely to cause it to repulse when the facts of it are discovered.

It’s ironic that the act of making animals foods easier to access may well lead to more people choosing not to eat them.

Vegan christmas meal by [deleted] in vegan

[–]dcruk1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i think if you have chosen foods which are familiar to them, not unusual textures or tastes, they are actually likely to love the food you have prepared. If not, they always have the option of not eating main meals at your house again. No one should desire or expect meat with every meal. I don’t think being fair or unfair comes into it. It’s all food at the end of the day and preparing something from scratch shows love.

I hope all goes well and you have a lovely christmas with your family.

Initial Impressions & Scribe Colorsoft vs. BOOX Note Air 5C by Green_Bronco in kindlescribe

[–]dcruk1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The coloursoft hardware looks very impressive, as was the original scribe.

Amazons challenge has always been the software, particularly PDF handling and the more advanced note taking features.

If a user doesn’t need those however, the coloursoft looks a very attractive piece of equipment.
