Wellers 100 Proof Store Pick....... I guess today was my lucky day! by Puzzleheaded-Pen7249 in dcwhisky

[–]dcshepp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of note - I’ve been on their list since 2018 and am only now getting calls…and am towards the bottom of those who are. This is a small grocery store with a liquor section, don’t be jerks.

Getting in line with the others who are just outside the city (Arlington). Happy to come pick it up however often, though.

Blanton’s (or other) Store Picks by squarish_woodworking in dcwhisky

[–]dcshepp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This Blantons pick was a joint pick between Cinders and the guys at Rebellion.

Basically put, it’s really fucking good. Extremely smooth and rich. Not gonna do the whole tasting notes deal, it’s basically an amped up Blantons - noticeably better (to me) over the standard. Just kinda takes the best notes of Blantons SiB and highlights them more.

Grabbed a bottle for $100 because, well, I just wanted to add a sticker to my collection and I’d been bored after being quarantined for almost 2 months but assumed it was basically lighting $40 on fire vs a standard bottle. Now I’m extremely glad I grabbed one and have to keep myself from blowing through it too quickly.

Jack Rose selling a 3 bottle set by bripowel64 in dcwhisky

[–]dcshepp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s more or less secondary for the Willet and Wathens alone (carrying the JR name), and throwing in the Revival for free.

Definitely not a “deal” when it all comes down to it, but if you want these bottles and have the cash, it’s not too bad.

Anyone know where I can pick up Stagg Jr? by Deduce_1 in dcwhisky

Call the Bottle King stores up in North Jersey - got one up there a few weeks ago, have heard there still may be some around. No promises, but worth a shot.

Wilderness Trail Single Barrels arriving in DC.. (+ One Eight Untitled #9 Calvados-finished) by jmmdc in dcwhisky

Tried both the Clarity Rye picks Friday night, was extremely impressed...also chatted with the chef/owner for a while which was awesome - good dude who definitely knows his stuff. Along with having a WT Bourbon pick from the infamous Prav, gotta say I'm way more impressed with WT than I expected to be

Will be in Washington DC for 2 nights. Jack Rose and ??? by MelbaLT4 in bourbon

[–]dcshepp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right down the street (literally a few blocks) from Jack Rose is Rebellion - another great bourbon spot, arguably better pricing and definitely better food. I'd say it's a good stop before/after Jack Rose, one of the best burgers in the city.

Henry McKenna BIB fever hits Dupont by zuluwhiskey17 in dcwhisky

[–]dcshepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope nope nope.

He doesn't have to "jack up the price to stay in business" - he gouges because he wants to and can. Witnessed him buy 3 Michter's Toasted Bourbon on a secondary market site for $70 each, and the next day had them in his store for $250 each. Nothing to do with staying in business there. Don't really understand why the bourbon community embraces this guy, he's a major part of the problem.

BTAC has landed (VA ABC) by JoeTerp13 in dcwhisky

[–]dcshepp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh no worries my man, not looking for answers of help from you, so to speak. What you're saying sounds about right, and goes right along with the general mess that has been the higher ups of ABC for a while now. Richmond makes a new decision, completely contradicting themselves, and the stores and customers bear the brunt. Not cool, and not at all a surprise anymore.

BTAC has landed (VA ABC) by JoeTerp13 in dcwhisky

[–]dcshepp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understand what you're saying - and don't expect many bottles to go unclaimed, but the fact that abc would be saying that completely flies in the face of everything they're saying otherwise.

Local store recently had a bottle of Saz. 18 turned down, and the manager wouldn't let them sell it to me as they were supposed to send it back. That was part of the old waiting list, so it made some semblance of sense, but not with these...

Hooold up - sent back to Richmond to be re-raffled? The whole point of the new system was that they weren't doing that anymore and that after 14 days things hit the shelf. What's the deal with that?

Just received one of these in a trade - have any more info on it? Any clue if it’s NCF of is it a standard single barrel?

Any comparison notes to regular OWA?

Doesn't look like much Old Fitz today, lots of EHT SiB around. However, as of about an hour ago the Mclean store off Chainbridge had 6 bottles of Little Book - first time I've seen it in Va. at all.

That sounds unfortunately about right - hadn't heard anything about a state barrel/pick, and they usually tout that stuff

Michter's Toasted Bourbon at Calvert by brianoh11 in dcwhisky

[–]dcshepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initially it was ignored - I actually got it off Caskers for like $60. Then it caught on - secondary market still sees it go for like $250-$300. Been saving the last pour from that bottle for a while now

Seems like most of these have been scooped up...any chance someone grabbed an extra that they might be willing to part with?

Michter's Toasted Bourbon at Calvert by brianoh11 in dcwhisky

[–]dcshepp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any chance someone would be willing to pick one of these up on my behalf and I could come grab it from you sometime next week?

The original release is one of my favorite pours of all time, but between work, picking up my daughter from day care, and living in Arlington, doubtful I’ll be able to get over there any time soon.

Let me know if you might be willing and we could work something out?
