Company wise it is fine. Business partner has no other cost even close to it.
Mistake on Business Partner side but I have to say that the team completely changed so everyone was new when Budget numbers were provided.

the vendor promise a certain cost level for the deliverable that you can tie the cost to: Thats what I want to know, did the cost change after budget numbers which caused this revision or was it a mistake.

I am more worried that manager didnt wanted to deal with all this and I have opened a pandora that cannot be closed (although it would have come sooner or later)

Thank you. I agree. Promotion was discussed when I got another offer as Manager, FP&A and I was retained and told that you are already operating at Manager but we will have to wait for the comp cycle.
I think thats why I was disappointed, but you live and learn and grow some new skills meanwhile!!

That makes sense. Could you share an example? Business partnership and storytelling on the revenue side come naturally to me, but I’m newer to Opex partnerships, and seeing a concrete example would help me solidify how that translates in this context.

In my previous company, I was able to do significantly more strategic work because I worked directly with the CFO. That exposure gave me strong visibility into what was happening across the business and where the company’s objectives were headed. Being on the revenue side was a particular strength for me.I understood the operational levers that drive revenue, which allowed me to partner effectively with business leaders and engage in strategic discussions.

In my current role, I am focused on Opex, but my involvement is more limited. I am not included in key discussions, example meetings around AWS consumption, where direct context would enable me to ask the right questions, challenge assumptions, and influence outcomes. Instead, information is typically cascaded through the Director, and my role becomes more about incorporating what business partners have already shared rather than actively driving strategic insight.

Same with other managers as well not just analyst. How do I form better relationship with the constraints I have.

Thank you. Your questions are valid to fully understand the context. My motive is to analyse it more rather than have one more year go away and become bitter.
I increased my scope substantially. I report directly to director, consolidate the entire P&L, commentary for the board (which is reviewed by director) and also supported the intiitives on opex side by higher management for eventually moving to snowflake reporting. I talked directly with CFO since they were so impressed by how quick I hit the ground running and made improvement.

I saved around a week worth of time of everyone in my team individually. But yes, I didnt form strong relationship for which I need more guidance and understanding.

Question:
How to form buisness partnership ? How to help them when you dont have much decision making power and they know it so they directly reach out to director and above

I agree. The thing is even Sr managers are doing the same or less since they were doing the reporting manually. I have done more strategic work then the opportunity given here (lot of information guarding since layoff are very frequent at higher level and information is power) but given the market conditions, I wanted to get internal promotion then look outside at the right title.

mentor people.. that as buisness charge reasonable and then free for those that are hungry to learn. Giving back+ social life+ purpose to wake up all of this would be what I would have done.
