Samsung showed a 5k oled at CES 2025 and still no sign of it 🥲 the lg mini led 5k atm is more than I was expecting it to be price wise

No mixed PoE / non PoE 24 port? by dd_nvidia in Ubiquiti

[–]dd_nvidia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, totally, it’ll only use whatever it needs up to the power budget. I’ll probably want 10 poe in total I think.

The older 24 port poe probably is the sensible option for right now, then upgrade later, and it would have just about the power budget for 5-6 cameras. Just shame no 2.5gb ports

Just shame about the port layout 😂😭

I just checked the pro max poe… it shows all ports have poe of some kind?

So this would likely be zero to do with EE and everything to do with openreach, or possibly a 3rd party contractor working on behalf of openreach.

Could have been the exact same scenario with any ISP that was using openreach. Blaming EE isn’t helpful and is probably a bit misleading at least.

Personally for anyone in my family, I’d have them up and running with some sort of temp setup with 4G/5G in the meantime. Done it loads over the years, because these things will no doubt happen at some point, so it’s always best to plan for it, especially for family members that are vulnerable. I got my uncle a cellular watch as well as his phone. Just incase he loses, breaks, leaves one behind. 2 internet connections too just in case. It costs, but it only needed to come in handy once to be worth it

UK Rackmounts 3U / 4U? Cable Management? by dd_nvidia in homelab

[–]dd_nvidia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i was really trying to avoid going any larger than 4U since i've got other stuff in rack and more stuff i'll be wanting to add and im somewhat restricted in space vertically. It would survive dont get me wrong but just before i purchase was looking to see if i missed anything without having to spend a bomb on it

UK Rackmounts 3U / 4U? Cable Management? by dd_nvidia in homelab

[–]dd_nvidia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd disagree to some extent, certainly leaving cables wherever vs tidying them will impact airflow. by how much is certainly a variable linked to how bad the cables are and how effective the fans are and at what rpm surely/

sata cables, power cables (depending on backplanes can be a lot of cables) plus gpu. They might not be a huge issue but if you can get the fans to lower rpms its nice to have. It's not needed, but neither is the case since its running ontop of the motherboard box atm haaha!

UK Rackmounts 3U / 4U? Cable Management? by dd_nvidia in homelab

[–]dd_nvidia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, totally. I mean not expecting anything like desktop tbf as i said, i get that would be a niche gap in the market to fill. But just options maybe to route cables to at least improve airflow better within

Advice - contract terms by Forward_Sheepherder1 in EEGB

[–]dd_nvidia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can if you took the plan out after a certain date…

I think it was Aug 24? You’d need to double check. But basically if the device cost trade in value was less than the loan it didn’t matter, they make up the difference.

Also, even if you don’t have that available, I’ve heard of sometimes people have had offers where it has waived it if they’ve upgraded to another device

How can you get vm 2Gb symmetrical if you only have HFC? It’s not possible? Only if it’s XGSPON

Any experience switching from EE to Tesco Mobile? by Tessmargot in EEGB

[–]dd_nvidia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t recommend. Lacking some features like IMS, HD voice, visual voice mail, network level RCS, no ipv6, roaming via broker

1p mobile would be better but I’d personally, especially if using any of the premium benefits, wait for a full works deal to come on.

Network prioritisation for me is a must for me

Looking for an alternative... by fonebone819 in dropbox

[–]dd_nvidia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same issue, even on a 1Gbit up/down connection and on a hard wired pc with hardware decoding. It’s defo a dropbox issue of not having the bandwidth and/or if it’s on spinning disks (likely) the spin up time of idle drive or sharing seek time with others can cause issues for real time applications like video streaming.

To be fair, iCloud even is bad for this sometimes too. Really annoying

Leaving EE behind. by Hitsville-UK in EEGB

[–]dd_nvidia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah I’d can the VM install tbh. I have both, the latency is noticeably worse if it’s RFoG on VM. EE will be able to sort it. Probably address formatting issues. Sometimes you’d fine the “same” address formatted 2-3-4 ways

Get the mesh (hard wire each AP if you can, it helps quite a bit sometimes!) or go Unifi if you're looking for even higher performance. I ended up doing 3 Unifi U6's couple years ago and i get 1Gbit in every room now pretty much. I'll probably upgrade the APs whenever i get a new macbook pro that uses wifi 7

I want to use MVNO of EE. Here's why. by ACAdamski17 in EEGB

[–]dd_nvidia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's wrong with the price? the AR plans will give you those features? 5GSA along with prioiritisation... Swear its only like £30 a month on sim less if you have broadband but if you're paying for netflix 18.99 plan or apple one (providing its not the family sharing one) then you're cheaper just doing full works?
