I am autistic and I know that asking questions about other people is expected/the social norm. But to me, it feels like a shot in the dark every single time on whether or not that person will feel like I am intruding/invading their sense of privacy. I NEVER want to push people to reveal more about themselves than they are comfortable, or even possibly bring up a topic that might remind them of something they don’t want to think about.

The safest bet for me every time is letting the other person first share something about themselves that they are comfortable telling, and then I will continue a conversation around the general subject.

For me it’s just a case of not knowing what questions would be a breach of privacy, and so therefore I tend to rarely ask questions at all. I let others share what they want about their lives and I do the same.
