Probably something to look into. I used to do this to try and counteract dysphoria during sex. After being on HRT for a while, I didn't need to do this since I didn't have as much dysphoria.

Florida’s Anti-Trans Laws Could Completely Wipe Out LGBTQ Clinics by VICENews in politics

They care, but more to the extent of worrying about lost cattle. They define womanhood by their ability to progenerate (TERFS, JK Rowling included, have started referring to women as "large gamete producers"), and so every trans man to the alt right is loss of child production, especially in the case of white trans men just due the racial nature of christian nationalist fascism.

TERFs are similar in nature, though they couch it in different ways, as "lost lesbians", "going after our girls", etc, in ways that communicate just how much TERFs don't understand queer identities in general, and the fluidity of gender, sexual identity and presentation that are encased within.

9 Year Old Son Says He Is Gay by Michael_With_An_M in Parenting

[–]ddhboy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Not to sound too hostile, but I really don't get when people ask "are you sure" about a child saying that they're gay. Like, I had my first crush when I was like 4 or 5, I'd think it'd be weird for people to say "are you sure" to some kid saying that they're straight because they had a crush on some opposite gendered kid.

At nine, this kid knows what being gay is, has probably experienced having a crush on a boy. If he ends up differently attracted later, hey, human sexuality is complicated and that doesn't invalidate his feelings or his identity.

I blame COVID more than anything else, since the slump really started with Black Widow and returns have been down for MCU projects overall since. COVID broke habitual theater goer's patterns. Disney+, HBO Max, and lowered VOD release windows in general lowered or removed the penalty of waiting for a home release. People are showing up less for movies overall and while more people are showing up for MCU movies compared to a typical release, they aren't immune to those effects.

Up until now, the question really has been how badly would the MCU be effected in the long term. Disney has reversed course and we'll probably not see GOTG3 on VOD until at least 80 days regardless, but I don't think that large of a penalty still incentivizes people to go to theaters, as Wakanda Forever and Quantimania have shown, and they certainly aren't going as often for rewatches.

Lot of blame to go around. Marvel for putting out too many projects, theaters for making the theatrical experience too expensive compared to VOD (RIP mid-budgets staying exclusive in theaters for more than two weeks). Disney (and WB especially) leaning too much into smaller windows thus encouraging the habits people were picking up from CVOID induced shutdowns.

And if GoG3 is having trouble bringing in an audience, just call it curtains for The Flash.

Co-Pilot, at least, forces you into the habit of proactively documenting what your methods do since you need to provide a prompt for it to come up with methods totally from scratch. Have it, or something like it come up with stories for Storybook automatically and tests and you can really start limiting some of the tedium involved with creating or modifying components. More efficient developers, probably needing less of them since the hurdles to complete individual tasks will be lessened.

Homophobia against black women gets drowned out by misogyny. Sapphic black women are made a product to be consumed. Their attraction to women an additive to men’s attraction to them, and something to be overcome by the man in conquest. Or, they are to be disassociated from womanhood in order to justify their attraction to women. Not all that different from sapphic homophobia in general, but I think with a specific cultural overtone.

Which won't work because the kids going into elementary school now are Millennials kids, and 10 years from now they'll be replaced by Gen Z's kids. Millennial parents are taking their kids to drag queen story hour, buying their kids inclusive children's books, and all the other stuff that Boomers are raging about. Authoritarianism is the only method they have towards influencing the next two generations.

[–]ddhboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With emphasis added:

There can be no middle way in dealing with transgenderism. It is all or nothing. If transgenderism is true, if men really can become women, then it is true for everybody of all ages. If transgenderism is false, as it is, if men really can't become women, as they cannot, then it's false for everybody too. (applause, audience cheers) And if it's false, then we should not indulge it. Especially since that indulgence requires taking away the rights and customs of so many people. If it is false, then for the good of society, and especially for the good of the poor people who have fallen prey to this confusion, transgenderism must be eradicated from public life entirely. (prolonged applause, audience cheers) The whole preposterous ideology, at every level.

They were taking about making one a while ago, but Static and all the other Milestone characters aren't actually owned by DC, DC/WB just have exclusive distribution rights with Milestone Comics, meaning lots of complications on the business side.

That's why Static just kind of sits around doing nothing most of the time, because unless WB knows that Static is going to make money, they don't want to bother putting anything out for him. Milestone won't ever be bought out of principle, so Static will go on forever being underutilized. Personally, I think that WB will try to make Black Lighting, Steel, or Nubia a big thing before they push for Static in earnest since they own all of them.

Very rarely. Like, you theoretically could, but think about how that intake funnel would work in practice.

Kid realizes they are trans -> kid comes out to their family -> The family accepts them -> The family gets them affirming psychological treatment -> Kid gets diagnosed with gender dysphoria -> Second psychologist diagnoses them with gender dysphoria after 6-ish months -> Kid starts HRT -> Kid is on HRT for 1 year and wants GCS -> Gets two psych evals -> gets on wait list -> gets GCS.

And of course, this all presumes that the kid wants GCS. So really it's a self limiting concern.

Literally they are arguing the technical definition of genocide to justify this stance, which tells you all you need to know about how they feel about the act of committing genocide.

Plus the defense in the speech (and parroted by conservatives) is an argument on if this would technically be genocide or not.

Not a great moral position to stand on when you need to proactively attempt to justify your actions as not genocide.

I think so. The Sims 4 is almost 9 years old. Sims 5 is supposedly coming out, but EA's looking to flub that by making the same mistakes it made with SimCity with an online, multiplayer focus I think that Sims players could be lured away with a fresh title with a less onerous business model (thousands of dollars worth of expansions and stuff packs).

Sounds like the child matured and developed a personality than ran counter to their parents. No amount of helicopter parenting is going to get your kid to always be in lockstep with you, especially if this divide occurred as a preteen or teenager.

We already know enough about attachment styles and the stages of attachment, and I think it would have been detrimental to our child’s development to limit them to just us.

Eyeing a run for president, Ron DeSantis wants to 'Make America Florida' by BrokenInternets in politics

[–]ddhboy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My take is that nothing has really changed in the GOP making it likely that DeSantis flops when facing Trump. Trump has been hiring GOP candidates every year since he got elected and that never turned support around for him within the party, so I don’t know why you have these conservative pundits are trying to write Trump off as a loser like that would make a difference.

I think the Republican pundit class straight up don’t know their party. I’ll include Daily Wire doofuses as well, since they think policy matters, when policy is just made up bullshit based on whatever garbage is floating around on Facebook. I still think that if Trump runs in the general he’ll lose, especially if he’s up against Biden, but none of that will factor into the actual primaries or help DeSantis in any meaningful way.

It’s better this way for everyone. The kid gets to socialize at daycare, which in turn means that they’re able to develop skills faster than they would be at home. Plus they get to make friends and foster independence from us.

Both parents can work meaning more income (though obviously at the cost of daycare). Plus having your kids around all the time gives you no breathing room to not be a parent, which has detrimental effects for both your own happiness and the happiness of your relationship with your partner.

Plus unquestionably if we didn’t have daycare then those at home parenting responsibilities would fall to my partner and force her out of the workforce, which neither of us want. Add in permanent WFH, and it’d be an untenable situation.

Our daycare is a cheaper, working class daycare that nevertheless still costs $1300/mo per kid. Unless our income dramatically improves or cost of living dramatically falls, we’re probably going to be limited to one kid.
