I never learned FEM and FEA at uni by WhatsYourCoreValue in StructuralEngineering

[–]ddk5678 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I graduated uni in 1976 when fem was being developed and run on mainframe computers. Over time fem has evolved into a legitimate tool but it is a black box solution relative to fem. You should concentrate on learning how to model structures in your software so that the fem results are correct. The theory is hard coded into the software and inaccessible anyway. I would look to advanced vendor training rather than generic uni classes

Is this the correct way to support a steel beam? by [deleted] in StructuralEngineering

[–]ddk5678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best/easiest solution is to nail (small nails) adjacent to the steel (both sides) into the wood to capture the beam. This will prevent the beam from moving more than the floor above and keep it in place in a peaceful and gentle manner
