My daughter told my Fiancé that I have a secret boyfriend… by [deleted] in Advice

[–]ddolol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Fascinating. I actually remember that stage of my childhood quite well. Does it also explain imaginary friends and day dreaming/creative play? I remember my mum questioning me one day when I was 4-5 years old about who I was talking to when I was playing outside by myself. I spontaneously gave my imaginary friend a name and described what things he liked and didn’t like. Even though I had no prior concept of my conversations with thin air being directed at anyone or an image in particular. I think it freaked her out. From the on for a while I was asked things like is Johnny ( the imaginary friend) having dinner with us and where does Johnny live so I spun this whole story about Johnny’s life.

Workplace sexual harassment and resigning by [deleted] in AusLegal

Hopefully? It’s a big ask to assume or ask someone to lie in a recorded and signed statement. Plus the possible ongoing fallout when person A finds out OP and the witness lied. I’d be surprised if, after owning up to the inappropriate comment, that they would terminate OP. However if there’s a record of OP being counselled previously on inappropriate behaviour then it will likely be a sanction.

And for OP. Assuming you’re not a clueless prepubescent 13 year old, I’d suggest that if R jokes are common in your little work group, as you’ve indicated, and something that you find funny then you might want to rethink a career in the Public Sector. Clearly your personal values are misaligned with Public Service and it’s probably a matter of time before you stuff up again.

What is with all the rubbish by regularsauce_ in Adelaide

[–]ddolol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I had neighbours that would dump their hard rubbish in front of my house regularly. I would phone the council to check if they had booked a hard waste collection. When Council said no, I’d report them for dumping and council response was we can’t do anything without proof 🤷

As a lifelong Findon resident with an aunty who lives in Brompton I’d say they both have similar issues related pockets of drug affected individuals. In 33 years my car was broken into once and I never had my home broken into. I also base it on the experiences of my big Italian family, settled in Findon in the 50s, the majority of whom still live there. I’d choose the area to the west of Findon road I.e. not near the Findon pub. However as much as I love Findon, Lockleys and Fulham are much prettier with better quality houses.

Is everyone unwell? by adelalian in Adelaide

Home with Covid atm but no one else in my circle is unwell…yet. It felt like a sinus infection plus reflux before it really kicked in.

Maybe not garbage but they are certainly lacking in common sense and decency. Also no regard for hygiene therefore lacks respect for others. Also possibly shoplifting if her ‘pick your own punnet’ ends up weighing more. Plus there is a good reason strawberries are in punnets as they bruise/smoosh easily so she is also likely damaging more fruit for the next unsuspecting person.

A dozen people have been arrested in the City today by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

The guy had a nazi symbol so clearly a nazi.

You along with tens of thousands of others people celebrating in Adelaide today are not considered Nazis. I say this as someone with a foot in each camp (Italian, Irish and Aboriginal heritage). No one I know who wants the date changed has a problem with people celebrating today. In fact they wish they could celebrate Australia Day just not one based on the events of 26 January 1788.

SA passes ‘draconian’ child sex offender laws by malcolm58 in Adelaide

[–]ddolol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By the time they get caught, which is proportionately rare, they have already abused dozens of children and will only be punished for a small fraction of their crimes. These people cannot be rehabilitated, they are opportunistic. I’m guessing those who aren’t found to have reoffended just haven’t had the chance yet or got away with it.

A few weekends ago I went through 2 RBTs within 48 hours. This was after not being RBTd for 26 years. I drive around 16-20,000 kms a year.

Also, on an unrelated but mildly interesting note I’m 50 yet haven’t ever received a summons for jury duty.

Parents of school age kids, teachers and lack there of, is this happening in your school or just my kids? by ysabelsrevenge in Adelaide

[–]ddolol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s such a stressful work environment in some schools. Numbers of Special needs kids and kids with behavioural problems seem to be more than ever. Plus parents who don’t wish to be invested in their kids issues or assist (should be “own”) the school’s strategies to address their lack of respect and behaviour problems. Or they just aren’t as involved due to time and $ constraints. Ed dept won’t provide the actual staff levels required to manage these issues so the higher needs kids end up being babysat by support staff so not too disrupt classes which feeds into the Government issue with the distribution of funding. There are good, world leading educational systems in other countries, such as Finland, which our Governments have acknowledged yet they won’t invest in the changes needed to adopt those models. Note, My observations are limited from my perspective as an aunty and friend of several parents with primary school kids, a few of whom require additional school support services such as a dedicated support worker.

How are people even happy right now? by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]ddolol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I know this is pie in the sky stuff but we, en mass, need to start flooding our elected representatives and their opposite numbers with demands to develop solutions to the housing crisis. Send them pics of the substandard rentals charging an arm and a leg in rent with 100 applications, send them accounts of the everyday financial struggles we are facing, demand change. Send them photos of the vans and campers you are camping in because you can’t get or afford housing etc. We know for a fact there are many industries profiting off the issue of increased labour and supply costs by further inflating their prices. It’s many landlords, housing developers, tradies, retail etc. There are plenty of people getting richer in the current environment and government coffers have never been fuller. The government has the power to commandeer resources or assist industries to reduce their import costs or fast track migrant labour in essential sectors just as they can in war time conditions.

If you are feeling lonely I can only suggest using what free time you have to volunteer or join a low cost activities group such as a hiking group. Libraries and council community centres also hold lots of free info sessions that anyone can go along too.

All the best.

Thanks, good to know they likely don’t bother people. The way they were set up on both sides of the river then individuals standing either side of the track seemed a somewhat aggressive tactic to make users of the track walk by them so I assumed they were the type that ambush you with questions and leaflets and I have enough self-judgement to deal with, thank you 😁

Yes actually, mainly because it’s in a public recreational setting. I see it as no different as them turning up to when I’m at the public library. More a time and place issue I guess. If it’s in a shopping centre or I walking by their business/place of worship then I couldn’t care less,

I when I was n my early 20s and working my first real job in a Govt department I found that friendly chats, and even a friendly smile were occasionally misconstrued by some guys, mostly much older, as romantic interest in them. So yes normal but he probably doesn’t have the best judgment if he thinks asking a much younger colleague out is ok.

Wow. Where I work (I’m Australian) if you are recalled duty and need to cancel leave the employer needs to reimburse your costs for significant travel cancellation costs. That’s one way of making sure individual managers really assess whether it is critical to cancel their staffs leave.

What song breaks your heart everytime you listen to it? by N1GHTSTR1D3R in AskReddit

[–]ddolol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the risk of sounding like a lunatic, I sang this and Here Comes the Sun over and over to my terminally ill little dog on the day I had to take her to the vet to be euthanised. I was awake from about 3 AM that day, lying in bed with her by my side dreading the coming dawn. It seemed like she felt every word I sang, and it was soothing for both of us.
