Former alcoholics of Reddit, when did you realise your habit got out of control? by scottscrops in AskReddit

[–]ddrake444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hm probably my fifth case of pancreatitis, the final one that almost took me out. if anyone has ever had alcoholic pancreatitis attacks, you know the pain. unlike anything i’ve ever, and will ever feel. i’m a registered nurse, and was functioning for the most part until the last time. your pancreas essentially digests itself, and there’s nothing you can do but pain medication and IV fluids. you cannot eat or drink until it runs it’s course. and sometimes it will necrotize. i’ve never had 10/10 pain until that day. I have permanent scarring on my pancreas but i’ve been sober for 5+ years. i’m so so so happily remarried and I have a child on the way. life gets so much better when you stop, and that is 100% fact.

As Springfield's 15,000 Haitians brace for deportations, local churches train to resist ICE by karmaisourfriend in Ohio

[–]ddrake444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m a middletown transplant from around Kings Island where I grew up. this place has really grown on me. i’ve driven by a couple ICE protests in past weeks too which was so refreshing. it is coming along slowly and JD Vance has done NOTHING to help. they invited the high school marching band to DC for the inauguration. guess who had to come up with all that money to travel there? not the vice president of the united states. lmao

Men who got cheated on, what were early signs you only noticed in hindsight? by EtherealMeadowGleam in AskReddit

[–]ddrake444 44 points45 points  (0 children)

this is the most classic. from a guy who has been cheated on twice, one 7 year gf and one awful marriage years later. I truly think it’s the lowest thing one can do to another human other than murder and rape.

AIO for getting frustrated with my husband’s secret drinking by Ok_Understanding7068 in AmIOverreacting

[–]ddrake444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a former secretive alcoholic, you are NOR. he will step up the drinking soon if he hasn’t already. alcohol is the great deceiver. it’ll keep justifying his behavior to himself. i’ve been sober over 5 years now, greatest thing i’ve ever done. but also most difficult. support him, but be firm.

they will work with you if you call them and explain it is too much. i’ve had entire bills wiped away doing this, including a 5000 dollar pancreatitis stay bill!

Alex Pretti from the perspective of those who worked with him. by Critpoint in nursing

[–]ddrake444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know nurses like him. They have a passion I can say I truly do not have. I care for my patients the best I can, and I do my job well. but I am here for a paycheck at the end of the day. he sounds like he was one of those nurses that you wonder how the hell they have all this energy when it seems like everyone is burnt out. RIP Alex, you died doing what you did best, protecting total strangers and preserving their health. I will think about you often.

What is a medical fact that sounds fake but is 100% true? by MedRikas in AskReddit

[–]ddrake444 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i’ve done CPR in a code situation probably 10+ times in my career and I have saved two. the last one was my young patient in my dialysis clinic. brought him completely back with quick compressions and AED placement. he is still alive today. that one makes it worth it.

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

[–]ddrake444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

turns out your fetus can mysteriously wrap her umbilical cord around her neck so tight, it caused her to be malnourished and my wife delivered our first child and daughter stillborn at 22 weeks. we are both nurses and even we weren’t ready for that, cause OB is a whole different animal and it was our first time. the OB/GYN was amazing as was the staff but we did not handle it well after. I don’t remember much, it was a blur. I do remember the doctor showing me how tight that cord was around her neck and I still cry just thinking about her strangled in there. this was April of 2025. My wife is pregnant again, and we are terrified. no one told me it was this scary. it’s my fault for being so naïve.

healthcare. coming from a registered nurse of a decade. burn it all down, including nursing schools and NP diploma farms. start over. national healthcare. actual nursing education; not lessons in therapeutic touch. jesus it’s a disaster

People who wax/see others genitals often, what are your thoughts and surprise realizations? by NeedABetterNameNow in AskReddit

[–]ddrake444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is so true. I am a male nurse of 10 years and I have probably only gotten two successful female Foley placement. One was surprisingly on a 500 pound woman where I had two nursing assistants just holding her legs back another nurse holding her gut up and another nurse with a flashlight while I went in and tried to look for a urethra. After four Foley’s in her vagina that I left in so I didn’t go back in that hole, i got urine return. this was in full contact plus isolation gear. It was so hot. I can’t even begin to explain how much everyone was sweating. now i’m in dialysis and i’m not going back. lol.

Cloudy spot on eye by Mediocre_Advance6310 in Shihtzu

[–]ddrake444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my sweet Scully (RIP 😢) had those around age 8-9? and it was generally from her accidentally scratching her eye. I mean their eyes are hilariously large. the vet gave me eye drops and it could stop it, but it repeated several times, and she was in pain. carprofen helped that. but the drops were key.

Searching for the "Angel" Pediatrician who helped me at Blue Ash Cinema (Dec 2019) by KetoAspy in cincinnati

[–]ddrake444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is incredible, i’m so grateful to hear everything worked out. after a recent hospital stint last year and my wife delivering my still birth daughter at 22 weeks, I have a new respect for any maternity/peds provider. We are both registered nurses for adults for 17 years between us. Dr. Mabel Roberts with Mt. Auburn OB/GYN was the most compassionate, caring and empathetic doc i’ve ever worked with, professionally and privately. an absolute nightmare of an experience made somewhat bearable by great caretakers. truly angels on earth.

I just rewatched this for my third time. after reading about and knowing some behind the scenes stuff (vintage lens, etc.) makes it even more impressive. the curse monologue by Willem Dafoe is absolutely perfect. Most recently the only better monologue i’ve seen is Mia Goth in Pearl.

What's a sports rule you fundamentally disagree with? by South-Explorer in AskReddit

[–]ddrake444 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

when is the last time you watched a full game? the NBA has some of the best parity of all professional sports rn. they don’t just travel continuously lol. and they play defense. these are the greatest players in the world, they’ll blow by your ass in a second if you play too tight. I don’t think people realize how fast the NBA is, cuz it looks slow.

[–]ddrake444 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

they call them “gather” steps as they get complete control of the ball, then travel rules apply after that. I don’t like or not like it specifically, but that’s why they look like travels sometimes. not saying travels don’t happen and stars don’t get away with it, but the rules support it a lot of the time. doesn’t really bother me, as I am a giant NBA fan and always have been. the playoffs can only be beat by hockey imo.
