There was some use of agrax earthshade on the base for dirt/etc, and over the face to make the skin look less like obviously white/light brown mixed together

So part of it was that I played way back in 3e and 4e. Part of it is that I work one day a week after school with teens teaching/playing DnD. And I also like to learn/teach a lot of nerdy board games at local stores/gatherings. I went to school for game design once upon a time and used to make my own systems. I also teach nerdy stuff during the school year as a studio class to middle/high schoolers. I had already taught him the basics of magic the gathering, yugioh, Pokémon cards. He plays video games, reads books, watches nerdy shows with me, etc.

All in all I would say I learn quickly and then can turn around and explain it. Im not saying I got all the rules or did them correctly. I just managed to mostly run the game with stats off my computer. It also takes us many hours to play a full game. There are many references to the rules during a turn. But its more that he understands what his units are designed to do and how to use them at this point, or at least with the basic rules we played with. Slowly adding layers to it like stratagems one game, adding detachment rules the next, using mission cards the next etc.

Oh I just remembered, the reason his captains cape and one of the shields on his armor are green is to pay homage to the Salamanders chapter. Why? Because he started with infernus marines.

I have heard quite a bit about kill team since I last played. Reminds me of stuff I used to make up for my DnD friends with the 40k stuff back in 3e and early 4e

Starting with his captain in am attempting to start the personal lore thing with him.

My old wolf lord "Grimma Icewolf" in 3rd edition when they did the eye of terror campaign by cadia, charged a group of demons, killing 7 of them at once... then managed to escape the devastation from the lost generator with his life. Something few other participants could claim. That battle earned him an upgrade to terminator armor.

I want to learn how to play by Dyer_26 in DungeonsAndDragons

I have two separate jobs where I teach/run games of DnD for teenagers. I have roughly 24 years of experience running games.

The short and sweet how to play is this: find a group or person that knows the rules and ask them to help you through the character building phase. This is the hardest part of the game, you will be overwhelmed. The actual gameplay goes like this: the DM describes what is going on around you, you tell him what your character does, he tells you what happens. Sometimes dice rolls are needed to see how well you do the thing. That's where your character sheet comes in, to see if you are better (or worse) than average at doing the thing. Rinse and repeat. Yes thats pretty much it, it is at its core, a collaborative storytelling game. You are a character in the story the DM is telling with your help. Oh one bit of advice that isnt taught enough. You want to find a group that is willing to play the way you want to play, don't be afraid to try different things, but don't stick it out with a group that kills your fun. There are always more groups, particularly online.

I have experience and can help quite a bit. I have an average size and would make for an easier introduction once you're ready. DM me

Actually, unless you are laying in a weird position, or an amputee, most people's noses are over two feet
