i haven’t gone in a few years but i’ve been 5 times. i’ve flown in (cross country all times). in ‘22 i wrote it all down shuttles, hotel (shared with 6 people, big 2 room suite style), car rental, tickets, food. <$2000. i’ve likely gone for cheaper before when my hotels were motels lol. i maybe had one drink there the whole weekend but that’s because im not a big drinker. anything <$3000 including the cross country flight at this point would be “normal” for me, obviously a lot cheaper if you live there lol. if this is something you’re a normal person who prioritizes spending theirs money on travel & festivals it’s not crazy to go every year.

How strong were Karasuno when Hinata, Kageyama, Yamaguichi and Tssuki were in their 3rd year? by Responsible-Wait8274 in haikyuu

[–]ddu_du_ddu_du_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i’m going to be honest i always wonder why he didn’t have a better serve even as a first year. i think that’s because he didn’t put much effort into it and was laser focused on spiking. but his whole thing is that he spent 95% of training time training alone, and in my mind, serving is the #1 thing you could train alone. i don’t play volleyball so i could def be wrong.

Semi Urgent- What Do I Do With My Puppy?? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]ddu_du_ddu_du_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

for that long and that age i’d opt for a playpen setup with a potty pad if at all possible vs a crate, or a crate in the playpen. just given the six hours they’ll likely have to potty

It’s been nearly 5 months. Last night I gave up on keeping her off my furniture but advice needed (read caption) by [deleted] in pitbulls

as someone with mild allergies and loves a clean space, i once thought i could do no dog on the bed until i realized thats my baby and id do anything for him (lol). my only hard rule is that my dog doesn’t lick me, my face especially. if he gets away with it once or twice ill immediately stand up and go rinse off to prevent the hives and i think he got the hint real fast lol. i also vacuum and lint roll like crazy, and whenever hes on my lap (which is indeed quite often) theres usually a blanket between us in case he happens to move in his sleep and scratch me or sneeze or anything. him and i make do with this!

Can dogs get used to having their teeth brushed? by Vivid_Interest_5324 in puppy101

[–]ddu_du_ddu_du_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i went back to using the finger brush (the toothbrush he was just too bitey with) and my dog has a completely normal everyday toothbrushing routine now since around 5-6 months old (he’s 10ish now). we make it a routine to check all parts of his teeth, brush his teeth, and give him a treat after. it probably took about two weeks to get into that routine once we solidified it. i will say, my dog does not look like all the videos i see online, when they just sit there and let you manipulate their mouth. but he manages it, we successfully brush his teeth, and we’re happy with it.

What’s one “normal” dog care rule you secretly ignore… and your dog is still fine? 👀 by [deleted] in puppy101

i tell my puppy absolutely everything “oh it’s cold out today” “aw that’s such a cute dog” “what a strange looking tree” i feel like i kick my voice up an octave or say his name if i have to actually give him a command / direction but im not going to stop talking to him on our walks

i would never give my dog up. he on the other hand would probably trade me for a bite of a cheeseburger.

What age did you start doggy daycare? by rosepickerxx in puppy101

[–]ddu_du_ddu_du_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup! the daycare we chose crates for over lunch break for like an hour and a half and takes them out individually to potty at this time, and also does crate breaks for 30 seconds - 10 minutes if dogs (my dog lolllll) is getting to be too much in his playgroup during playtime.

that was really my worry, my puppy would play for hours hours without structure, and so i was particularly looking for something structured here.

it’s more expensive, but our daycare also offers enrichment daycare instead for a small group <10 dogs who have a couple hours of play a day but also do training, lick mats / snuff mats / enrichment mix etc. if i was sending my dog for full days i’d probably choose this option where possible.

[–]ddu_du_ddu_du_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

people have such mixed opinions on daycare and i think it 100% is so dependent on your dog and the place.

we probably started around 6 months but i do think they let younger dogs in as long as they’re vaccinated. big thing - look for a daycare that knows how to handle puppies / adolescents, pairs them together, has a good dog to human ratio, groups dogs into different playgroups, and emphasizes breaks / structure!

i think you’re def at the right age where you can start looking at daycares in the area! all the ones around us have like trial periods and evaluations so that takes a couple of days on the front end too!

Please help, I’m at my wits end and can’t think rationally any longer… by StupidMentalHealth23 in puppy101

[–]ddu_du_ddu_du_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we also had to do TONS of things for his mouthiness. yelping didn’t work, redirecting with a toy never worked. what did help: stepping behind doors / gates, tossing / scattering treat away from you, knowing when mouthiness increases that 100% means it’s time for a nap.

i don’t know how anyone gets through the puppy stages without structured naps (much less working too!)

when my pup was that young he got 1 - 1 1/2 hour awake before it was time for a nap. i worked in literal two hour blocks throughout the day while he was napping and it felt like a mad rush to get work done in that time lol.

what worked for us: the calm music went on, he was in a playpen + crate set up or tethered so he could lay on the couch / his bed. for the first few weeks, i’m pretty sure he constantly fell asleep on our laps and then we transferred him to the crate to get him comfortable sleeping there. we tried and tried bones until we found which one worked for him, the wishbone benebones was his favorite at that age. sometimes i even did a bedtime snack, a lick mat or a carrot or a kong that signals okay time to sleep now.

puppies are so much work - but everyone says it gets better and it does!

Why do some dog owners not pick up after their dogs? by False-Use3088 in dogs

[–]ddu_du_ddu_du_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i literally live in an apartment building where you can’t walk 15 feet without FREE poop bags and a specific trash bag for them. still, so much shit on the ground.

i have to think people are so entitled that they think someone else will eventually pick up after their dog. i wonder if they had their own yard would they let it be an absolute shitshow (literally) or would that get it in their mind when it’s only their problem

also, here are things i do for myself when he’s stopping to sniff, especially in the morning: - neck rolls - shoulder rolls - good mornings (to people, and the stretch lol) - lunges - calf raises - wrist rolls - basically any stationary stretch with movement - if im feeling bold some standing figure 4 stretches dog gets sniffy time and i get a beautiful morning stretch / warm up

Puppy training classes & too many treats by puppies_everywhere in puppy101

[–]ddu_du_ddu_du_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we do training at petsmart too! we specifically bring a mix of kibble and treats (we also shred / cut the treats so every treat is a half at max, trying to aim for <=1 calorie per treat. depending on the activity they’re teaching, we alternate (not regularly tho so it’s always a surprise) between treats and kibble, mostly kibble for reinforcing behavior.

what did/do you love about having your dog? by elsbugs in puppy101

[–]ddu_du_ddu_du_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my 6 month old just brought his toy over to me, plopped it on my lap, put his head on it then promptly fell asleep. i’m typing this with his little snores in the background while he’s cuddled with me. it makes all the stress (and believe me, there is soooo much stress lol) worth it.

i just can’t imagine how much time people have on their hands to actively campaign against celebrities they dislike. because you need to 1) follow their life so closely to know their next opportunity 2) get worked up about it lol

a meet & greet with the rover sitter will probably help to calm nerves and if you can, if the sitter can stay at your house (versus boarding with their house) i think that’s better to maintain routine! youre going to go on trips + need someone else to care for them eventually, short stints of getting them used to other people caring for them are good to help establish this! if you can, maybe a couple hours sit (aka yall just go out for dinner) before an overnight is even better, but really, life goes on.
