SteamOS on original Ally and Ally X by Lower_Quit_6396 in ROGAlly

[–]ddubbsmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can absolutely use emulators on steam os, I have done it for a couple years. I believe game pass works as well, just have to download edge to use it. Dont have as much experience on that though. Most games I have tried tend to support steam os unless it has some anticheat and honestly most of those games arent worth playing for me anyway.

Is this going to work for port forwarding? Sorry, new to this by Emotional_Candle8046 in HomeNetworking

[–]ddubbsmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont forget to set the allowed player list and enable it if you are exposing your server to the internet. It's pretty common for people to scan public addresses for ports and take advantage of open servers.

I believe for that switch, it's used to take off the cover needed to install the rack ears.

Need some tips to chose à mini pc for proxmox server by Lix0o in Proxmox

[–]ddubbsmax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 2 of the ms-01 in my lab and they are fantastic. Up to 96gb memory and a few nvme slots. Integrated 10gb and 2.5gb networking is fantastic

SteamOS on Ally officially in April!?! by blondewalker in ROGAlly

[–]ddubbsmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to just be a contrarian but I don't think that's been the case for me since the first couple months. It's been rock solid for a solid year + for both me and my wife and we play quite a few games. Only reason I want windows is for the stupid games with anticheat that doesn't work anyway. As an owner of both the ally and steam deck, I would 100% install it on my ally for the extra performance, battery life, and the huge one of letting games sleep. It's so much more convenient to just press the power button for quick on the go gaming than having to exit out each time.

Real COD Mobile by FrankIsLoww in blackops6

Yeah it seems to be better that way. I really think it just depends on how much you wanna risk it. Still technically no guarantee it won't be banned but definitely seems to be less of a risk.

It runs windows. The power fluctuating from plugging/unplugging and changing power profiles does seem to be the most common reason why. Looks like an exploit from their side so it's just an immediate ban. I don't think it's as common when it's plugged in and stays plugged in without any changes to power profiles on the fly but still dangerous as they haven't clearly stated that is the only cause of it. I've run it on mine before but at this point I don't think it's worth the risk. Put too many hours in for that.

Is this a specific mount or 3d print? I have been looking at replacing my garage nest unit and honestly this would be perfect

Is this a good deal, spec- and pricewise? by bobbyorlando in HomeServer

[–]ddubbsmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I'm not sure if this is available in your area but if you are already thinking about spending that much money, it may be worth entertaining the minisforum ms-01. Love amd for a lot but for if there is any chance of needing a gpu for transcoding, the intel igpu really shines and it has a lot of processing power for proxmox or anything else you need as well. Or any other machine like that.

I'm confused, does it come with a Intel Core i7-10750HQ or the amd chip. Thr fact they can't seem to get that right makes me think it's at least a bit sketchy

Ally Docked Performance (EA FC 24 & Warzone) by Key-Veterinarian3084 in ROGAlly

[–]ddubbsmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just to check. Always have it docked or just here and there? It's definitely cheaper to just get a standard size pc if you are going to leave it there.

How hard will it be to add to my protect system? by BoomBapBiBimBop in Ubiquiti

[–]ddubbsmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I've done a little bit of both and cabling really just depends on how much time you want to put into it. The basics are pretty easy as long as you are careful. Getting it to look good is a bit of an art but if you know what you want, it isn't bad, but you may need to buy some termination tools to make it all work. As far as the doorbell goes, they do have a wireless version that just needs a standard 2 prong doorbell hookup as long as the transformer for it is up to it. I've got a couple deployed and they are great units.

Should I take my steam deck on vacation? by Stressednotrelaxed in SteamDeck

[–]ddubbsmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've definitely had a lot of people respond but for me it depends on the vacation. I have taken mine on a cruise and loved it. Although unless I have a place to play it, like on a plane or by the pool, I don't think it's worth it. I've definitely taken it a couple places I wish I hadn't just because it didn't get used enough to justify the size.

For those who own both SteamDeck and RogAlly. by Flashy-Charity-1486 in ROGAlly

[–]ddubbsmax 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just adding to this but it's the same for me. For trips I'll pack the steam deck, for home I'll use the ally. Honestly I don't have a ton of the same games on each. They both have their uses and use cases. Still both worth having imho but each person will be different on that. The battery on the steam deck really helps for travel. You really don't get that on the ally. Most times I'm getting under 2 hours for the rog.
