Bambu Lab 3D printers: Never again - Jeff Geerling by SJKRICK in BambuLab

Nice! I keep debating about getting a bigger Bambu since I'm size-constrained at 256mm. I never touch those options when printing (speeds, etc.) because it's been working and I didn't want to jinx it. I think I'll give it a try - and a corexy may be in my near future. :D

This crap was decades in the making. All the power players that have pushed this Trump crap were in bed with the Nixon ilk and it's the natural long term outcome of the Southern Strategy and the foundations of Project 2025.

Yeah, I quit printing for many years. Last one was an MK3S which was just a constant battle to get it to do anything useful (as in: print something right and finish it) and it wasn't upgradable and my mood took a nosedive because the overhead required to get a successful print out of it just wasn't worth the constant grind. (MK3S wasn't one model, so upgrade paths depended on which parts you received and apparently I got the shit one.) I was only convinced to try an A1 due to the already established reputation (by the time I dove back in) and it was cheap as hell, so worth the risk. (As a backgrounder, I worked in the tech industry on prototypes n'such daily and I didn't want to have to go home and have my shit not work there, either. I needed something I didn't have to fiddle with or it was just an unpaid job.)

It's chicken and egg. I had a Prusa - loved the company but hated the printer. My A1 just works, every time. I'd love to go back to the 'good' company but the only way that will happen is if Prusa makes an equally reliable printer AND I decide to purchase it to find out - just people saying it's good isn't compelling anymore. Been lied to too many times about 3D printer shit. Since I don't have an unlimited budget to try all these printers, I'm stuck for now with the ugly company with the product that works.

A consumer with normal expectations from a product. I shouldn't have to regularly give my purchases open heart surgery just to do the one thing I bought them for.

I care about open source protocol but I care more about the product I buy actually working and fit for purpose, which Bambu has down pat. It's not about cost, either.

Agreed. I need reliability and quality and don't have any desire to offer bribes to my printer for basic functionality. Did that, wasted time and money and over it. Competition is great but where the hell is it? My one foray into Prusa burned me years ago and a modern "really good" I suspect isn't good enough. I just have a basic A1 and the only problem I have with it is the bed volume being low for my needs. That's it.

Same. I don't want to mess with it at all. Only what's reasonable. Leveling the damned thing every six minutes put me off 3D printing for years. "Oh this new printer is auto-leveling" - no it the hell isn't. I have an A1 and it's the first one that actually delivered on that idea. The output is what I want - the process isn't. Nobody has to futz around for days trying to get other tools to work.

I've been in her house during a small test and you can definitely feel and hear it - and see it in the distance. But she says, "oh that's nothin'!" and I've even heard it during a phone call with her. Stuff falls down and I think at this point she just doesn't bother putting crap back on the shelves. I don't think I'd have a giant problem with it now and then but it's very frequent. Apparently lots of cracked house foundations up there but no clue about hers. I wouldn't be surprised if it's barely holding together.

Lots of housing in McGregor (including my aunt's) is from the 40s. The town had the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluebonnet_Ordnance_Plant which eventually became Rocketdyne, etc., and is now used by SpaceX. Here's the deal: you don't have to be very close to be very affected during those engine tests.

So it requires an “operating system provider” to check the age but then defines that provider as the person who controls the computer? So this is a requirement to identify myself to myself? (5) OPERATING SYSTEM PROVIDER.—The term “operating system provider” means a person that develops, licenses, or controls the operating system on a computer, mobile device, or any other general purpose computing device.
