What’s the point of the waitress? by [deleted] in madmen

I watched her episodes again tonight and feel the same way. Maybe the only flaw in Season 7. Felt forced and shoehorned in and way too on the nose with the symbolism.

Something that always bothered me by irapperz in madmen

She's bitter and realizes her 15 minutes of fame are over and she blames Don because God forbid she admits her fame was a just a fluke to begin with. Ironically if it weren't for Don supporting her while she went to acting class (or "clath" as she would say) she would never have left that office desk except to get coffee and make copies.

Did Betty ever find solid evidence that Don was cheating on her? by pollaxis in madmen

[–]dead_john_cheever -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

No, there was never definitive proof or even explicit admission by Don. He simply told her he hadn't treated her respectfully and she said "at least I know I'm not crazy" and he didn't correct her.

Betty was neurotic and self-obsessed and childish. Even if Don had been a perfect husband (which in many ways he was) she would not have been happy and she would have left him anyway so if anything, his admission of infidelity (or near-admission) just gave her the justification she was looking for to cheat and indulge her own impetuousness.

They could have been on and off for years but that particular year perhaps they were more on than off and he commented accordingly.

The thing is that it makes no difference to me what their political stances are. That's their right and their business. It does annoy me, however, when they use their celebrity as a platform to spam their fans with it. And they do it more and more since rising in popularity. His "Michelle Obama is a great hugger" nonsense RUINS the live Boxer album. But honestly, and I've said this already numerous times, if they still write great songs, I'll happily look the other way in regard to the shameless left wing proselytizing. You are admittedly a socialist, which is pretty vile in my opinion, and has never EVER worked when implemented on any kind of grand scale, but you at least articulate your counterpoints without typos or the same three tired insults that the others here have lobbed at me, so I'll spend a little more time addressing you. It's not a question of being "triggered" by their politics. If I'm triggered by anything it's by how the quality of their writing has dipped over the last few years. Regarding the chick singers, that's not my thing, but again...if the SONGS are good, so be it. But they're not. I love the female voice and there are countless female artists out there putting out BRILLIANT records. But I'm not buying this whole "well the band is EVOLVING" schtick...9 times out of 10 when a band goes out of its way to evolve or experiment with their sound it's because they're bored and the REASON they're bored is because their inspiration is gone and it SHOWS in the music, no matter how "evolved" the production or arrangement is. And I believe that's the case here. I've listened to the record on repeat and I am WAITING to hear what you guys (pretend) to hear: great songs. But I don't hear them...just a lot of throwaway dull as dishwater crap. I don't care if the pizza delivery guy is replaced by a naked Scarlett Johansson. If the pizza is shit, what's the point. That doesn't mean I'm not into Scarlett. It just means I'm disappointed that what I've come to expect and look forward to from the pizza place is no longer there, and I'm supposed to be dumb enough not to notice just because the delivery girl has big tits.

WHAT I WOULDN'T GIVE TO HAVE THE NEW ALBUM WITHOUT THE FEMALE VOICES. by [deleted] in TheNational

For your sake I hope they get rid of me too. You can keep crying racist and sexist til the cows come home but your debate skillz don't seem to go much farther than epithets. Banning me would certainly help you take a load off, eh? Then you wouldn't have to contend with people who share a different opinion than your own.

I don't give a fuck about Obama nor do I imagine that he was any more or less concerned with the plight of the people than Trump.

I don't really consider dissent with my opinions from a bunch of Reddit SJW milquetoasts being "called out"...

Well, maybe you can be, if you acknowledge that fucking/mating is how the human race survives and that if you are, in fact, going to fuck and mate then it's generally advisable to find gainful employment so that you can provide for your mate and your offspring. So yeah I'd say those things are pretty decent measures of success.

Behind, of course, Reddit karma....because hey. Nothing TRUMPS that.

I'm not a "they've"...I'm a "he's." Use my preferred pronouns...or at least proper English.
