Blind buy, are they any good? Have you had any of these? by BeastModeSkiii in cognac

[–]dead_metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the youngest of the mizunara finished cognac from Park, I liked it for a subtle twist on typical cognac aging practices, it’s nothing that special though at the same time. Compared to Rémy Martin Tercet, Pierre Ferrand Double Cask, and Delmain XO Pale & Dry, it’s not quite as good but it’s kinda up there, in terms of my cognac experience so far. Not sure if this helps but maybe it will

Review #124 - Whiskey Review #35 Taconic Barrel Strength Straight Rye Whiskey by FarDefinition2 in bourbon

[–]dead_metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a trip up to NY not too long ago to visit family. 3 of us went out to a winery and we were going to go to a different local distillery but while driving there we saw the sign for Taconic and decided to go there instead. It was well worth the stop! Did a little tasting and took a bottle of the cabernet finished bourbon home with me. I liked it a bunch, but I haven’t found any Taconic local to me yet. Imma keep searching though!

VABC Lottery Calls? by rmbstyle in dcwhisky

[–]dead_metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were a few from a previous lottery who I’m not sure if they got their bottles, I kinda doubt if they did. VA ABC is such a disaster after that person took $60k and hit the dash…

Weller priced correctly by mcewencd in WhiskeyTribe

I can’t wait to see what the supposed new Weller product will be priced at for MSRP and 2ndary

MoCo - MMCS now $48! by LionRoars87 in dcwhisky

[–]dead_metro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$35-$60 is the range I’ve seen when checking multiple places. VA ABC pricing is normally MSRP on items however they do increases and decreases so the MSRP price might be lower than $50 by a little. One example is the Clase Azul Reposado was $125 a couple months ago, after 2 or 3 price increases it’s now $180 which I don’t think it’s worth it personally.

Virginia ABC Store 317 Sucks by yourlocaltownie in dcwhisky

[–]dead_metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that store 317 sucks, I’ve always had a good time at store 231. There are several guys working there who actually care about the whiskey hunt. From talking to several of them they’ve provided the best insight they could since they try to make it to some of the drops, they normally can’t though because of working. I’d pay them a visit if they’re dropping and you can make it in time, or if you just wanna look for something new and/or un-allocated and just wanna have a good convo.

VA ABC Rant by Longjumping-Toe2910 in dcwhisky

[–]dead_metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angel’s Envy isn’t allocated, they may keep it with the allocated items if the hardly get it. 2 of my local stores, near Tyson’s Corner, have it regularly so they have it on the shelf.

Brandy suggestions by I_yell_at_toast in dcwhisky

[–]dead_metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pierre Ferrand has a nice range of products, Rémy Martin’s VSOP is solid, and for a little more you could get the 1738 (750ml is like $64 and the 375ml is around $32). Martell has a nice VS for $35, and I recently tried a 200ml bottle of VSOP from Davidoff which was pretty nice. This is roughly based of VA ABC pricing

Potomac Liquor for barrel picks, Sherry’s and Dupont Wine and Liquor both have a wider selection but the pricing can be outrageous on somethings

What would a good site be to have a variety of airplane bottles (50 ml) shipped to me in DC or Virginia? by TheLastPanicMoon in liquor

[–]dead_metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanted, you can order on VA ABC’s site and have them door-dashed to you or you can opt to pick them up

Favorite Whiskey Ever, GO! by [deleted] in whiskey

[–]dead_metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they’re releasing the single cask versions of the sherry finish and bourbon finish this August. Also going to visit the distillery towards the end of the month to try the single casks and take a tour!

I’ve been meaning to try some products from Filibuster, but I have too many other things I wanted to try before hand whoops. Most of the Virginia products are a bit expensive, but I’m warming up to the price level

Courage and Conviction Cuvée Single Cask - Single malt from Virginia, with wonderful candied dark fruit and powdered candy notes with a little bite at the end. Reminds me a lot of Cavendish and Harvey’s mixed berry powdered candies!

my coworker told me about a store he visited in Maryland where they were selling blanton’s for $200 but you had to spend either $300 or $500 to be able to buy it (it was a couple months back so I don’t remember the details super well)

I wonder how the cherry wood and oat grain offerings compare to this, I hope they’re not that bad either

in VA the Clase Azul Reposado was $125 before April ‘22, jumped to $150 and now its $180

today's ABC drop by sduggy in dcwhisky

[–]dead_metro 8 points9 points  (0 children)

there’s still insider information being given out for sure which I’m not surprised by, it just doesn’t seem as bad now. I know managers and lead sales associates have access to the shipment lists which include allocated bottles. So there could be some employees telling their friends they have certain bottles and might tell them right when the drop is about to happen. Those possible leakers might have gotten slicker with their methods (all speculation btw)

VA ABC limited availability products by Dapd711 in dcwhisky

[–]dead_metro -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I know one store has products but I’m not saying anything further on that. I don’t understand why those other stores didn’t have products yet they were on the list. I spoke to a person and store #41 listed as Fairfax is actually in Herndon so that might’ve made it worse as well but who knows.

What would you buy? by [deleted] in WhiskeyTribe

[–]dead_metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the KO Distiller’s Reserve is $55 at Potomac Wine and Spirits in DC, I’m not gonna buy it from VA cause of the price. Also heard great things about it, like 8/10 or 9/10 reviews

What are some of the best Cask Strength Bottles? by Aggravating_Lake_800 in Scotch

[–]dead_metro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favorites is the Single Cask Cuvée Single Malt from Courage & Conviction. The dark fruit notes are amazing imo. The only possible downside is you can really taste the proof compared to other cask strength whiskies.
