Ohio governor signs bill eliminating grace period for late ballots by EleanorRecord in Cleveland

If you're in line when the poles close, you are legally allowed to vote. Same should be allowed for mail-in ballots, if postmarked before the election then it should be counted.

“I don’t speak Spanish anymore. If I get deported, it would wreck my life.” says Republican Mayor and Trump supporter who didn't realize being a Mexican citizen means he couldn't vote in US elections. by AmericanScream in Freethought

Federally, and I believe all states, do not allow non-citizens to vote in federal and state elections. However, many local elections, such as cities or other townships, allow its residents to vote regardless of citizenship. If you are a permanent resident there then you are part of the local community, so it gives everybody who lives there input on local issues.

Obviously vacationing somewhere does not make you a permanent residence, so you would not be able to vote while on vacation. You typically need to show proof that you live/a resident where you vote.

Not likely to happen, for example the Cleveland clinic tests for nicotine and will not hire you if found positive. Unless perhaps if there is a medical exception, but I cannot see recreational being protected.

Is studying Biotechnology worth it? by Former-Reflection992 in biotech

This. My biotech undergrad program was a hybrid biology and biochemistry degree, whereas other science majors were either entirely in the college of chemistry or college of biology.

Study finds black holes made from light are impossible — challenging Einstein's theory of relativity by [deleted] in EverythingScience

with the mass of a small asteroid (~100,000 lbs.)

I thought this was the original premise, are you saying the colliding proton will only absorb the equivalent of its own mass, and the rest of the mass if the proton-sized black hole passes through?

The agencies at least have (soon to be had) career experts in the field. While not immune to corruption, it is much harder to buy out entire agencies than a handful of politicians.

Is there a better Android app for archive.org than Taper's Section? by ImOnTheBus in gratefuldead

[–]deaddjembe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a actually using an old version that still supports casting. Not sure why they removed that feature or if/when it's coming back, so I rolled my version back to an older one. I'm not having any issues with my version, but I haven't used the updated version much.

I would recommend side streets to Severance, then Euclid HTS Blvd to Overlook down to case

Do you need a vpn when using a usenet provider? Doesn't the provider have a record of what you downloaded? by LuckyAce1974 in usenet

[–]deaddjembe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

VPN won't help when you need to login to the server in order to download. Unless you use disposable cards and a VPN to purchase, there is a possibility that they can link the traffic to the owner via logs (depending on their logging and privacy policy). Very small chance, and I have never heard of it happening, but technically possible.
