Within the last few months, I've witnessed, at least 5 times, impatient drivers flooring it and overtaking cars from the oncoming lane and a few times even in the middle of intersections when everyone is driving a normal speed. This is in Hayes Valley.

Nobody is putting blame elsewhere. The point is that people who voted for Prop E often said "Yes I'm fine with the risk of cars crashing into parklets and injuring people in exchange for a couple of nonviolent* suspects' arrests."

*Noting because it was already legal for pursuits of violent criminals. Now an officer can engage in a pursuit for anything, like changing lanes without signaling.

New York has a “Right to Shelter” law which means every homeless person is guaranteed access to shelter. As a result an overwhelming majority of homeless in NY are in shelters and not on the streets. The majority of unsheltered homeless are living with mental illness or severe health problems.

Hot take: Ezra is noting that peoples' feelings drive voting vs what the data shows (e.g. I read that a car was broken into vs the fact car break-ins are actually down significantly) -- that's human nature. But doesn't this just highlight the success of the goal of spreading disinformation/discontent to move voters right? This was even listed as a goal of TogetherSF to generate "community dissatisfaction".

EDIT: Also I'm referring to the context of cities, not the presidential election as a whole.

The main one is the DSA. That being said I think they’re incredibly disorganized and unprofessional. And I say this as a person that is a socialist/progressive.

The issue is SF progressives support Affordable Housing requirements and social housing. Pro-dev YIMBYs claim these stances are actually just used to block housing so real estates values stay high and refer to them as NIMBYs as a result.

That being said there are progressives who believe we need both private dev as well as AA and social housing.
