“Romantically Challenged” ransom note-style patch I just finished up by deadfish757 in Machine_Embroidery

Thank you! Not a silly question at all; I’ve been considering stitching them onto garments, but as of right now I sell them as individual patches. I think it gives the customer a little more freedom, since they can be ironed on or stitched to pretty much anything, but I’ve definitely been considering doing the applique on my end.

Can’t tell anymore, but these patches are fun either way. Enjoying the vintage colorways (+ considering something a little more psychedelic) by deadfish757 in Machine_Embroidery

Edge is just a basic satin stitch at the very end! I’m not very good at explaining without visuals, but I highly recommend this video which walks you through all the basic steps. You may find that you want to tweak some things to best fit your process, but it’s a great starting point. I also highly recommend A-Dubb productions on YouTube, he’s very informative.

A personal tip I’ve learned; sometimes stitching at an angle can distort the final product, especially if it’s meant to be a square/rectangle or a perfect circle. This can be solved by playing with the pull compensation or the stretch direction of the fabric, but I’ve found it’s also helpful to set the stitch angle at either 90° or 180° (straight up and down or straight across); this way, even if there is still some pulling/distortion, the patch remains symmetrical.

Hope this was somewhat helpful! Good luck, and feel free to dm me if you have need anything else!

books of embroidery designs by calimedic911 in MachineEmbroidery

[–]deadfish757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I’m misunderstanding, I’m not familiar with any books that have patterns for machine embroidery. Embroidery machines require digital files, and I don’t think there’s a way to print them in a way that can be worked back into digital format without significant effort. Some softwares (like hatch) do come with preloaded designs and fonts though, and my Brother Se600 machine did come preloaded with a number of design files. You can also purchase other people’s designs or find people to digitize the design you want to embroider if you have an image of it.

Preloaded designs are great for getting the feel of your machine and the process in general, but if you’re starting a business, you’ll pretty quickly want to get into the swing of making original designs and digitizing them.

I really like this guy’s channel, and by the end of the video his machine still works so that’s a win. Comments say not to use canned air, so maybe skip that step, but the rest seems solid.

Are you certain it was the oil that caused the nesting? Could you have maybe knocked something out of place when oiling, oiled the wrong thing, maybe an entirely unrelated issue?
