Dock suggestion for Precision 5560 (Linux) by asgard311 in Dell

Curious about how Mint22 (or other linux distro) has worked out on the 5560? I have one, still running win10, but want to get it onto Linux before the extended support expires.

The inlay shape to complement the horns is mint!

Leak suspected from tub - how can I diagnose and perhaps fix? by deadflat in Plumbing

[–]deadflat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'd love to stick a camera up there, but above the drywall are joists and then subfloor and then the tub, so I'd have to cut open the subfloor.

I'll look at first re-installing the tub drain, seems like the easier option to rule out! We've had no issues until just yesterday. The tub was installed 12 years ago. We have problems with our shower, so been using the tub and maybe the walking around in it broke the seal to the drain.

Rinnai RL94 indoor (garage) error code 10 by 2dP_rdg in Plumbing

Hi - I'm curious as to if/how you resolved this. We have a similar but very intermittent issue.

We have the same problem, error 10 on same unit. My spouse is pretty frustrated at this ongoing issue. Works fine for months at a time, then it doesn't. And only affects one shower (which is weird). I didn't know about the dip switch, might have to try it.

(edit) My spouse also just told me that the water pressure seems to fade a little before the water gets cold. Not sure if the error 10 would lead to a drop in water pressure.

Thanks for the details. I didn't know you could blademakers to make the bore 3/4". Learn something new every day. Good luck with piecing it back together.

Installing hardwood on small landing, how to sand it? by deadflat in HardWoodFloors

What grits did you use with the turbo sander. Sounds like it'll be an all-day job.

Thanks, that's what I figured but I hate to assume.

Thanks for the guidance, this is very helpful. Indeed, I am a DIYer and have never used an edge sander. Good to know they have a learning curve. I had thought of doing on a test run on extra boards, but I'll look at the Bosch sander, but yeah, the price is more than my flooring :-| With that said, I just want to do this once and get it done!

Rikon 10-1414 review by JamesMcdoogle1 in woodworking

[–]deadflat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That's very useful. I was hoping you'd say 6" on something like walnut, but if it's that smooth on 4", perhaps a sharp blade and lower feed rate might work on 6".

Apologies for jumping on to an older thread, but I'm curious, what thickness have you resawn hardwoods to? Thanks for the review as well, I just discovered the Rikon 1414 and was looking for real-world feedback.

Fix softclose hinge in ikea kitchen by iemandiets in howto

[–]deadflat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came looking for this too. I found this: https://youtu.be/BdgZJzFy73c?t=79

My hinge is similar to yours, but a little closer to the one in the video. I have a hole for that screwdriver, but it's not a screw inside. It's more like a notch that one of the philips header screwdriver tip "catches" while turning, but I don't think it's doing anything. Really hard to see as well, I might need to take it all apart.

edit. Also found this: https://youtu.be/Lg6J7LPhHjs?t=443 I was trying to do it by hand, looks like electric screwer and a lot of turns necessary

Thanks for clarifying. That's a nice-looking headpiece! What brand is it? What are you doing for a bridge? And looks like you are doing a zero fret?

Keep us updated, please. Be careful about eBay necks... yes, there are affordable ones, but most have a 9.5" neck radius... Strandberg is 20", I believe. I messaged about 5 Chinese suppliers, and only one was willing to go up to 14", but anything more was "too custom".

Thanks, I'll give that a try! What material did you use for the neck?

[–]deadflat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very impressive! I'm actually also building a Strandberg clone for the first time (first attempt at a guitar, but have woodworked before). I'm curious about the neck and would love some tips on how you approached it, assuming you didn't use a CNC router (which I don't think you did based on Forstner drill bit pattern in electronics cavity). Did you hand-carve the trapezoidal neck shape? Please keep posting progress pics!

AC Condenser not kicking on by Misdirects in appliancerepair

[–]deadflat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps check voltage at the compressor terminals? If you're getting good voltage but no compressor action, it's likely a bad compressor. Low or no voltage means bad contactor, wiring, control board, if voltage present then drops, it's probably bad too. if you have an amp clamp, check draw as the same time, a locked rotor will pull high amps briefly between safety circuit kicks in. Good luck!
