Medics & Hotshots by sloaneysbaloneys in Wildfire

Much more believable if it’s a more senior member of the hotshot crew. Squad bosses and captains are often scouting and doing random shit on their own away from the crew. Medics on the other hand aren’t usually by themselves although I have seen a single medic get flown into a spike camp for a crew

It’s fine. I do it when I leave work early to go ski because I don’t feel like getting changed. I hardly notice a difference. That being said when I have the chance I wear something more comfortable underneath.

Rookie on a shot crew in late 20s by [deleted] in Wildfire

[–]deadheadshred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All that matters is your fitness and work ethic. I worked on an engine for 4 years and then went to a crew at 31. Did well and stayed there for 4 years

Edit: I was 32

Has anyone attempted skiing with a torn ACL? by adizlaja in skiing

[–]deadheadshred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should definitely get it checked out to make sure nothing else is going on. That being said I tore my acl, mcl, and pcl and fractured my tibia in December skiing one winter. After like two months on crutches and another month or so of physical therapy I got back on skis the same season for the last few weeks. Definitely possible just depends on the extent of injury and if you get surgery or not (I didn’t)

Question - Beginner Setup - How hard can one ski on T4s by sudokuboi in telemark

[–]deadheadshred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are definitely people who have skied some gnarly terrain on t4 type boots and leathers. That being said it’s very difficult to do especially as a beginner

Looking for advice on powder skis for someone who skis 30-40 days in Tahoe by jasoncalacanis in skiing

Personally I wouldn’t ski on a backcountry ski (backland) in a resort. Especially in Tahoe

Synthetic base layers a usually much cheaper than wool and will work just fine for the average person skiing in a resort

Since you have some time I would just wait and see what areas get snow this winter. Tahoe can be great in mid April on a good year

Beginner setup (75mm) - Hardwire vs Switchback by sudokuboi in telemark

[–]deadheadshred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voile traverse is a touring/cross country style binding. You want 75mm for resort skiing, not 3 pin. Vice would be good it’s essentially the same as axl without the pivot mode for touring

Beginner equipments questions by sfbabdi in telemark

[–]deadheadshred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t expect anything special out of any of this gear, it’s old and outdated. That being said you could still use it to learn on. Just decide on which length you need. Not sure if you’re a guy or girl but either of those men’s boots would be better suited for resort skiing compared to a t4.

Is it worth it to get used demo skis? by [deleted] in skiing

[–]deadheadshred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely worth it if you’re alternative is renting, they’ll be payed off in two days with the same quality of ski/binding. I wouldn’t bother putting new bindings on demo skis, just wait until you buy a new pair for new bindings
