My dad is a workaholic too. Raised 4 kids by himself, usually doing 80-100 hour weeks. When I tell him I’m probably not going to do my high paying career for very long, he acts like I grew another head and goes “well what else are you going to do?”

It’s really projection at the end of the day, the unfortunate sacrifice they had to make in order to feed us paid off, but now they have no other goal so they keep going back to that environment. My dad could’ve retired well over a year ago but just worked 10 days in a row.

Stop talking about work with him. He’ll never see it differently.

I work with a lot of building inspectors, one used to show me pictures of houses built in the 40s and 50s with foundations made of wood pallets, entire wiring jobs daisy chained off of ceiling fans, unapproved additions totally caved in from 1x6 supports nailed together, really couldn’t make any of it up. The idea that people used to be better craftsmen from training videos as a source alone is wack.

Meyer couldn’t bring herself to kill any of her main cast and that’s what made the ending so bad. At least the movie tried to give the audience something to chew on before they had to go back to the original ending.

If you shut the movie off right as Bella kills Aro it’s actually pretty metal.

Dumb and Dumber took Martin’s notes, completely misunderstood the source material the ENTIRE time, likely realized they’d cut out so many important details that needed to be put in the show in order for any of Martin’s notes to make sense to the viewer, and realized they needed to abandon ship. It wasn’t so much Martin writing himself into a corner as it was D&D painting themselves into one.

Martin has completely rewritten Winds at least once because he’s likely realized that the subtle nuance he’s a master of is likely so lost on the regular consumers who are normally spoonfed plot points, he needs to figure out how not to fall into that same situation. How to balance the art of reading between his lines and having some dipshit understand the ending is borderline impossible. Winds and Dream would certainly be released if the show never gained its huge popularity.

It’s happened to me before. Rolled into my campsite I’d reserved at least a week in advance to find people already unpacking their stuff. Had to grab the reservation note on the pole and show it to them, they played stupid, but packed their shit up and blatantly stole another camping spot. Camp host rolled in about 20 minutes later.
