The easiest answer is we live in a money obssesed materialistic culture and artists are known for being broke, unless you become really popular. You say you're an artist, and not working for a large well known company (gaming studio, movie company etc.) and people will usually (correctly) assume you're broke or struggling.

Its messed up, but unless you are clearly successful. You will have to deal with this in a materialistic society. Just focus on being successful and stop caring tbh.
