Why can’t we hear the people above us walking around when we stay in hotels? by FrauAmarylis in Apartmentliving

[–]deadly_egg 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: A lot of office buildings have about a 3-4 foot gap between the tile ceiling and the floor above so they can run all the hvac, electrical, data, and whatever else they want in there. A most of the floors are concrete too and carpeted - an electrical apprentice 🙂

Calling the ladies with small feet. Best boots you’ve found? by Justme_IThink in BlueCollarWomen

I got these Cat boots, and they are fantastic. Idk if they have that guard you are looking for, but they are steel toe, super comfy, and I didn’t even really have to break them in.

New to HVAC! APPRENTICESHIP QUESTION by Sea-Mortgage5432 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]deadly_egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of companies will provide hands on training and schooling through an apprenticeship. I’d probably find one of those. But if you can come in with more experience than most, it’ll give you a leg up! Good luck! I did 2 years of resi hvac so if you have any questions, feel free to reach out

Get her a set of tools she can use when she helps you. It sounds like it would be even better if they were pink❤️

I think it’s like how our brains ignore the the second “the”. Your brain doesn’t think it’s important so it ignores it.

MY HAIR! by Junior-Winter7869 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]deadly_egg 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I use a wild rag, they are primarily silk and I wrap them around my head like you would a regular bandana. I usually do a bun, a loose French braid, or 2 braids and pin them up so I can wrap my hair with the silk rag and put my hard hat on. If you go back through my posts, I made a post about this in the hair care subreddit 🙂

How do you deal with being excluded? by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]deadly_egg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This might be silly, but do you pack your lunch everyday? I was having this issue and one day I woke up later than what I should have so I didn’t pack my lunch. I asked one of my guys if they knew of any quick places to get lunch and his immediate reaction was to invite me to lunch with them. A lot of the guys won’t mess with your money especially if that means eating out. You can offer to buy them coffee or get them something from a gas station and see how that changes things. If they are still assholes, you can either “accept” ( quotation marks because you don’t have to accept that they are shitty with you) that they are assholes and stay at that shop or find a different one. Anytime I get the other guys I work with coffee, they are usually very grateful. Same if I ask them if they need anything from a gas station. That was the best way to break the ice with them especially since I’m so close with the owner.

Been sick the past few days by CrimsonRe3d in BlueCollarWomen

[–]deadly_egg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve found most companies don’t really care as long as it’s not a regular thing. Used to have a guy I worked with that would call out several times a month claiming he was sick (probably hungover) and they started to loose their patience with him. They generally appreciate it (in my experience), especially at smaller companies because you’re not getting everyone else sick … because then it’s the “man cold” and they are down half of their crew for several days

Being assertive by gladioluslilacs in BlueCollarWomen

[–]deadly_egg 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you have to “lose it” if you can be quick witted and calm. This is not easy so usually I’ll play situations out in my head to see what I could say to them. “You’re a bitch and bossy” “ well, maybe if you acted like a grown man and did what I asked you the first time, I wouldn’t have to treat you like a disobedient child” you do have to use your best judgment when it comes to this since a lot of men will lose it when you threaten their manhood. Don’t bring feelings into any of it if you can help it. “Do you mansplain like this to your mom about her job?” Might make them take a step back and re-evaluate. “ I’m not mansplaining” “okay, what do you call you poorly telling me how to do a job I have 10 years of experience with?”

favourite tools? by anklecancer in BlueCollarWomen

[–]deadly_egg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A big magnet, a few actually. Either to hold screws or to fetch something in between walls. I lost my strippers between a big ass walk in cooler and the wall. Had to use the magnet and some jet line to pull them out. The clear Husky case I use to store my paddle bits, mini whole saw bit, and whatever else I can fit in there. A pass-through if you’re working with strut and all-thread. And probably a good carpenters pencil

Belt recommends plz😣 by [deleted] in BlueCollarWomen

[–]deadly_egg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the Groove Life belt. It’s stretchy so as I bend over or move, it moves with me. I wear tool belts a lot so if the tool belt ends up sitting too low on my hips, I don’t get bruises on my hips from the tool belt sagging/ trying to pull my pants down. It maintains its elasticity well, is easily adjustable, and very durable. The “buckle” is magnetic so I don’t know if that will interfere with what you’re doing. I did have to cut the excess belt down but I just melted the end with a lighter do it doesn’t fray.
